Our Story
James and I originally met each other through a website. We found that we had a lot in common and quickly became close friends. He was my confidante and the person I went to whenever I needed help or a listening ear. The entire time, he was dropping hints that he wanted us to be together and that he loved me, but I did not ask him to be my significant other until after he got me through a rough breakup and I realized that I loved him as much as he loved me. He and I got together two days after the aforementioned breakup, and we have been together ever since. We knew we wanted to marry at some point, and for my birthday, he bought me a promise ring.
We then decided that James should come visit me in Des Moines in late 2013. When I went to pick him up at the Des Moines airport, this was the first time we had met in person, but from that moment on, while he was in Des Moines, we were more or less inseparable. He stayed with me in my apartment from September to October of 2013. By this time, we were seriously considering marriage, and he proposed (we are using my grandmother’s ring as an engagement ring) and we decided that it would be best for James to move to the United States, as opposed to me moving to London.
