They're really stepping up their game. I was expecting an 8 months process but it was about 70 days from start to finish for us (Thailand).
Just make sure you have everything prepared for your Packet 3 and 4 so you're ahead of the game. Our police report held us back a bit.
Congrats.

Alright so I believe we will obtain the cert and mail it to the embassy assuming the interview is accepted.
The police office has been pretty busy and I know I told my girlfriend to attempt to give more. We even went back to try and do it again after the date of the interview was confirmed to be so soon. Apparently he just said it happens a lot and we shouldn't worry or something.
On another note. My girlfriend told me some people were there after the interview but also that there were people obtaining the cert before they even sent their I-129f, which seems a bit extreme since I thought u needed your case info to do it.
Another lady had paid a lot of money for a company to do the visa stuff and she was there without any papers or anything and was on the phone for an hour. Think it was like 15,000 baht for the service.
My immigration attorney I met with to give me some advice and check my package even warned me the k-1 could take 8-12 months. It wasn't even 3 months and now we have an interview with the police telling us the cert is almost a month from when we requested it.

Getting there from inside Bangkok feels like a 10 hour journey half the time anyways so I can understand you but 5k seems heavy.
Here's an update tho. We went there today and he said that this situation happens a lot for people and then he explained the process to my girlfriend for what happens. Something like: she goes to the interview, brings the receipt thing thing from the police and then they'll give her the notice for evidence and we'll have to go back, get the certificate, and send it to the embassy or something. I'll reply again after this actually happens, assuming all goes well with the interview.
He also said it wouldn't have mattered even if we went there days earlier. Almost as if they already decided they were gonna be finished AFTER Songkran. Even tho the previous week they said 2 weeks when we called. Oh well I guess. Just a bit frustrating but almost foreseeable that something out of our own control would trip us up a bit.
I just finished college and this whole process has been more work than some of my classes.
Thanks again.

Haha just needed to say it to some people who also understand.

They don't want to answer apparently so we're heading down there again tomorrow. Like I said maybe the holiday warrants lazy clearance checks. Nonethless I'm a bit tired of that kind of attitude here.
Good luck to you too.

Just this last week. I'm guessing the new year is a big reason for them to go slow. I believe my girlfriend just paid the fee they asked even tho I told her she should try to pay more to "expedited" service.
She's gonna call them and hopefully figure something out. 4 weeks for a certificate tho? She was told 2 on the phone.

Not long ago but since the packet 3 came so fast we were scrambling a bit and had to go to her home for the paper that guaranteed she could marry.
They told us 20 April or something like that and then we sent the packet and now we have an interview so soon. I suppose this is a dumb problem since some people wait so long but the speed is incredible here.
My fiancé did say there was actually a woman at the police center who already had her k-1 and was just then getting her certificate for the embassy. That was a little confusing.
I can always email the embassy since they've replied quite quickly to my last 2 email enquiries.

Hey guys so I did what you guys advised and sent no originals accept for the documents that needed signatures. (DS-2001 and i-134).
It was accepted and I already got an interview date of April 9.
Is this some sort of record because my NOA1 was January 25. Nonetheless pretty quick.
My concern now lies with the Police Certificate. There's a chance it won't be available for us until after that interview date.
Anyone have any experience with this happening and a suggestion on what I should do?

Yeah savings and investments are $XXX,XXX. And I can get a letter. Should be okay then thanks.
I'm relatively aware of what we have to do. Marry, go thru the adjustment of status process and then she can work when she acquires a SSN.
Feel free to put the whole process in Lehman's terms for me if you'd like!
Thanks for the help again.

She is not subject to the 2-year requirement.
I've got everything sorted I just need to decide about whether sending in photocopies and bringing originals to the interview is okay and won't jeopardize anything.
Also make a note we're waiting on the police report.

I should have put more info at the bottom. We haven't received the physical packet yet but I made an enquiry to the Embassy and they have sent Packet 3 on March 11 to my fiancee's home. The e-mail said the packet just has instructions but whoever sent the e-mail also included a link to the packet which he said was identical to what we will get.
NOA1 - Jan 25
NOA2 - Feb 14
NVC Rec - Feb 24
Cosulate Rec - March 6
Packet 3 sent - March 11
Extremely fast as we were warned it could take close to a year but just 3 months here. Crazy.
The attorney said I met the requirements even without the income and I don't need the co-sponsor according to what she said so I believe I'm okay about this. I met my girlfriend when she entered the USA on a J-1 visa and now I've been in Thailand for 5 months since I finished college and these Thai girls take loads of pictures and she's been keeping all of them. We have travel proof, conversations, plane tickets, and pictures from every trip so proof of on-going relationship couldn't be more obvious if you ask me. Which is the main concern isn't it? Along with the Affidavit of Support.
I think I will go ahead and have photocopies of my bank and investment accounts sent and bring the originals to the interview. Police said it'd take 2 weeks for the clearance and I want to get that interview date set if I can.
Does anyone object in the extreme to the idea of sending photocopies in Packet 3 and supply originals at the interview? I don't want to push my luck.
The packet also the petitioner is not allowed to be at the interview which kind of sucks so is there a suggested way that they can know I am there supporting her (maybe it would further show proof)? Maybe give her my passport to take in there or have her just tell the officer subtly that I am awaiting the result outside?
Thanks again for the help. Hope this helps other people as well.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry my first post was a bit dumb as my brain was turning to mush at 3am after reading countless posts. Every embassy is different and has different requirements and sticking points. I now realize this so the difference in packets is understandable.
I've already had an immigration attorney check my finances before submitting the I-129f and I met the financial requirements through my significant savings/stocks. But being that I just finished university and am currently in Thailand with my fiancée I was wondering if the letter for future (and current online) employment would help even tho I haven't received any income from the position waiting (but have received some from my website/database management for their system online).
These documents will have to be sent to Thailand. Same with the financial documents and we're waiting on the police report. I was hoping to get an interview set up sooner than later so I was hoping I could send photocopies of the documents in the packet with a note that I (my fiancée*) will supply originals at the interview. Also a note that the police clearance will also be supplied.
Is it too risky to go this route and I should just wait till all the docs and originals are sent here?
Side note, I'm annoyed this process has been MORE difficult with me being in Thailand with my fiancée. Wish there was some middle ground here with a cleaner filing process. Have had to rely on too many people to do too many jobs to get this finished.
Thanks everybody for the help. NOA1 was Jan 25 and NOA2 was Feb 14 so I'm a bit caught off guard with the recent speed of the system. It's nice but now I'm scrambling for perfection.

Sorry for the double post but I would like to ask some more questions.
Is it okay to send the Packet 3 without the police clearance (and bring to interview)?
For the Affidavit of Support am I able to send copies of the documents in the packet and bring originals to the interview (since I need to send from the USA)?

Hey everyone,
Sorry if this has been answered before and I spent quite a bit of time searching for the answers but I just want to make sure I have it clear.
We received Packet 3 and I want to make sure we send in the right stuff in the packet and keep the other correct things for the interview.
Could someone please be clear on what we need to send and what we need to keep for the interview?
The website (here) says what to send and what to keep, but it's the Montreal website. The interactions we received (here) tell are a bit vague on what to send and what to keep.
We are in Thailand if that makes any difference for this question.
Also, when assembling information for evidence of support will it be okay to simply print off from my banking website or will I need an official document from each bank? I will be relying on investments more than current income as I recently finished university (it's a considerable amount). Does anyone know if this will be a stumbling block or not? I also have a job waiting for me once I return to the US which they will supply a letter for proof.

Hello all,
I'm new to these forums and wasn't sure where to start with my questions or where to go for suggestions. I'm just about to start all my efforts but I really wanted to make sure I have my bases covered before I start applying my resources and money.
I am aware of all the guides and I know the general process of what is required for the K-1 process to be started and completed successfully.
I'm going to explain my situation first so somebody can help me and I don't want this post to be too long but it may need to be so whoever can help has a clear understanding of my situation.
My girlfriend and I met in America while she was involved in a work and travel program (J-1 visa) earlier this year (around March 2013). We randomly met through a friend and I was just finishing college (May 2013 graduate) and she has just finished university this year (August 2013 was final graduation). She stayed in the US till July which then I travelled and toured NYC with her and then she went back to Thailand. Since then I have no come to Thailand in November where I will be staying till she is able to come back with me. We had talked everyday during the three month absence and have tons of pictures and screen shots as well as Skype records if needed. We have decided the best way would be for the K-1 visa to be pursued but we're not really a normal case.
Anyways, some facts and questions about the situation:
1. I have not been able to earn much income since I have been in college the last 5 years studying and playing soccer but luckily I have considerable assets..I assume that could make up for the low income levels?
2. Since I am in Thailand, would it be possible to file my I-129 Direct to Consulate in Bangkok or since I am not a permanent resident that would not be allowed? I will have to called but maybe somebody can give me some insight about this. I understand that the ability to do this could expedite the speed considerably which would be for the best (goes without saying).
3. My sister is an attorney and I have legal resources stateside so before I finish file I'll have professional advising, I just need to make sure I create everything first. Regarding that: how much evidence or what evidence would you recommend to show more? We have hundreds of photos (She loves social networking), like i said we used Skype a bit, mostly Line chat which i'm not sure we can see records from that. Should she show airline tickets from when she first came to the US and I should include mine from going to NYC and Thailand? I mean, the fact that I'm in Thailand after she came to America seems pretty legitimate to me but I'm a novice at this.
4. I guess just wondering what you would recommend me to remember/do since we are both 23 years old and are a bit of an anomaly concerning the scenario. We have just finished college/university this last year but we're definitely serious about the future.
Again, I would like the stress that I am in Thailand and being forced to file the package in America would just seem impossible considering the need for signatures and color photos. I plan to work (soccer team contract) or study (student visa) which would enable me to stay here.
Thanks in advance.
