  1. I just came back on Wednesday, and it took a total of 20 mins to get through. We actually waited longer for the bags than for them to process her. Another woman on a K-1 went in as well and was out in about the same time.

They really didn't ask any questions, just made sure that she was aware that she has 90 days to get married and that once she is married she has to adjust status.

I think I'll try and get 3 hours for connecting flight :-)

    Thanks

  2. There are limits on how much cash you can have on your person through customs. I don't know the dollar amount but it might be under $10k. Better check it.

Also why are you resigned to cash? What about a wire transfer to your fiance's bank account? You pay a wire fee but you should get a 100% exchange that way.

My partner is looking into it this week

  3. Hi all

As I have only aprox $10k to take with me on my POE, I think I will be taking it in cash. Can you advise the best cheapest way to get the money from my UK account into dollars ?? Any good exchange companies out there with good rates so im not loosing too much.

    Thanks

  4. Hi, I've got my interview in June and already getting nervous! Will they want to know about my finances as well as my fiances? Thanks!

No no i took mine to see what would happen for self sponsoring ;-)

My sponsor was enough but the officer was only interested in my savings as i said i had proof.

  5. If you are bringing 25,000 dollars or less it will be cheaper to bring it in cash, on you. Just make sure you declare it if you bring more than 10K dollars. There are no taxes to be paid on the money. Shop around, for some exchange houses will give you a better rate for larger transactions.

I think i will do this thanks

  6. I just got dollars exchanged at the airport. The exchange rate was pretty good. That doesn't mean I did it the best way, though. Some people have said bringing pounds across and then getting them converted here gets you more, but I'm not sure.

Did your bank not mind taking all the money out ??

  7. Xe.con

    That's helpful

I had $7,500 with me in my carry-on. You have to declare anything above $10,000.

People talk about using services like currencyfair, and I was thinking about it, but in the end decided to take cash.

Did you withdraw the cash in dollars from your bank or in sterling then convert ??

  8. Hi

So I am preparing my POE for 3rd July and I was wondering how some of you got your money to the US ??? I want to do it the safest and cheapest possible way.

I do not mind travelling with the maximum either.

so how did you do it.

    Thanks

    Paul

  9. I know, really frustrating, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it - there was an approval on here a few weeks ago (for the UK) that had taken 7.5 months to come through...

We hit 5 months tomorrow so we'll start filing service requests etc, for all the good it will do - I'm not sure anybody even looks at them!

Anyway, congrats again - when are you looking at flying over?

Flying July the 5th as i can get 2 more months pay ;-)

Thank you i hope you hear something soon.
