    Just my 2 cents.
I've been living in the US for almost 20 years, my son grew up here (wasn't born here though) - and we have never even heard of selective services before he graduated from high school and applied for FAFSA. That's when we've got a letter in the mail stating he had to register - otherwise no money for college. So he did.
I don't find it weird or not-believable that OP forgot/didn't know about SS registration.
However, (sorry, can't find an English equivalent): незнание закона не освобождает от ответственности. Chances his appeal will be granted are slim.

Clair got a reaction from kehills in Question on Abandoning AoS and Re-Entering the US
My Aussie husband and I are planning to move back to Oz after he'll get naturalized here in the US: we want to keep all the doors open. Right now moving to Australia appears to be a right move, but who knows what does the future hold?

Sunny California is a mess. I've been living in LA for almost 20 years. It's still a love-hate relationship. And even although I did not fall in love with Australia, a lot of things there bug and annoy me, I realize it's a right thing to do - to make a move. Don't feel bad for wanting to go home. Listen to your guts.

Not a terrible option. We ARE going back soon.
But it your case moving to Oz won't solve the problem: instead of you spouse - YOU (and the girls) will be waiting for an equivalent of AOS/Green Card. And it's bloody expensive to file! Over $3K if the memory serves....

Your fiance should bring his vaccination childhood record (whatever he has) to his medical exam in Moscow. Doctors who will conduct that exam will translate Russian into English themselves and fill out the form. If it will be determined that any mandatory shots are missing they will administer them on the spot. For a fee, of course.

I work with Muslim and Orthodox Jew families from time to time and obtained some info. I see you are in LA. Don't know which part though. A family from Syria I know shop here: Super Hayat market on 16904 Prairie ave Torrance CA 90504. (310) 370-5707. Kosher markets such Glatt market are located in Encino and West Hollywood (between Santa Monica Blvd and Fairfax ave). But easiest way to find out: use Yelp, search for "halal meat" in your area. http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=glatt&find_loc=Los+Angeles%2C+CA&ns=1&ls=43719fa9c621f1d4#find_desc=halal+meat
