  1. The three questions she was asked:

    1. Where in the US are you visiting? "Phoenix, AZ".

    2. What is purpose of your visit? "To visit my daughter, her son-in-law and new daughter."

    3. What is your job? "I have two businesses: I buy and sell goods and make and sell rice cakes."

My question is about how important it is to show something different in the second application. Can we apply again with essentially the same application? Or is it important to show that something significant has changed?

  2. My mother-in-law (Philippines) was denied a B-2 visa to visit my wife and I to see her new granddaughter (due date is 1/21/17). I've read about other people with nearly identical jobs, ages, bank accounts, reasons to return, etc., who were not denied and I really feel like we just had some bad luck.

For our second try, how important is it to show something substantially different than the first try? Any suggestions on what that should be?

  3. My wife just got hired pending background check / processing. We're concerned because her Social Security card still has her maiden name, but her EAD has her married name (we haven't changed her name yet on the social security card). Is this going to be a problem?

  4. We want her to take on my name the "Filippino way". As I understand it, we should fill out the AOS using her new name. Should we also use her new name on the other AOS docs (EAD, AP, G-325A, I-864, etc.)?

Once we get her EAD, then we will go back to the Social Security office and change her name to her new name. After reading many threads on this, that's our plan for officially changing her name. However, now her passport won't reflect her new name. What is the next step here? Get a new passport?

  5. Before we got married, my fiancee applied for her SSN in her maiden name. After we get the EAD, we will have her name changed to her new married name. After reading many posts here (SSN forum), we decided that was the best way to go.

When doing it that way, I read that when applying for AOS, we should do so using her married name. Does that mean just the I-485, or ALL the documents that are part of applying for AOS (E.g., I-693, G325A, I-864, I-785, I-131, etc.)?

    Thanks in advance!

  6. I'm looking to fly my love to the US from Manila and I see several good flights that have stops in Japan. If we were to book one of those flights, would we need to get some kind of special visa or something for her stop in Japan? It's only a few hours at the airport in Japan. I see another nice flight that stops in S. Korea.

Not sure how that works. Any help is appreciated! :)

  7. My fiancee is from Mindanao and flew to Manila for her medical and interview and to wait to pick up the visa at MOA if all goes well. She was going to stay with a friend in the area, but that didn't work out. Any suggestions? She's there with her mother staying at a hotel right now, but I'm hoping we can get them an apartment or something. She's researching things now (they've never been to Manila), but if anyone here has any suggestions, please let me know.

We're trying to get something reasonably affordable.

  8. I've seen it said that the CFO may require the USC's tax records and it is advised to blacken out social security numbers and other vital info. Should I do the same for the tax records I submitted for the interview? Have there been instances of identity theft or whatever because someone didn't do this at CFO?

  9. A&B, I don't think this should have moved. It can help anyone relating to any country. It's true I'm only looking for Philippines info personally, but the "visa approvals this month" page is not country-specific, and I would expect a "interviews this month" page to also not be country-specific. Could you please return this post to a more widely-viewed forum so it has a better chance of getting a good answer? Much appreciated.

  10. While researching various things, I stumbled upon what appears to be an updated set of embassy instructions letters. I usually get the English K1 instructions here: http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3224.html. However that page is still showing an English K1 letter last updated February 2014, while the one I found is last updated December 2014. So I'm a little confused.

What I found is this at the bottom of this page: http://manila.usembassy.gov/iv_documents.html.

If it is indeed a new K1 letter, not much has changed. Mostly some links and fees that I think we already knew about. The biggest change I found is the third paragraph on page 6, which states that the medical results are now released directly to the applicant (see also this thread about that). It's also notable that they deleted the text that says it's important to have your medical done at least a week before the interview.

The differences for the K1 letter at the bottom of this post (only pages that have changes). Deleted text is highlighted in red, inserted text in cyan, and replaced text in magenta. Sorry so small.

I'm still uncertain about this. Apologies if I'm wrong...I just stumbled upon them when doing a search.
