Can't answer any of your questions, we've only just started. But I did want to say congratulations

I think it goes to Missouri.
Do you have a I-94 in your passport?
He has the white card w/an A number on the back

Ollie just came in to the USA today on his K1 via New York (JFK)...
The POE guys didn't know what to do with him. after 20 min of putzing around, they took his brown envelope and said they would mail it to Los Angeles and he should "go there, they'll help you file paperwork and get your green card"
Ha... first, obviously, you don't file AOS paperwork in person. second, Department of Homeland Security is going to walk us through the filing in paperwork in exactly what Alter Plane of Reality??! The POE's lack serious training. If they don't *know* how things work, they should not spew assumed bull-poop.
So I'm scheptical. We're in Nor Cal and our service center is San Jose, 8 hrs north of LA. are they really going to mail our stuff to LA? is this right? is it going to get lost for months? Or do they just put it in a stack and someone who really knows what's goin on actually mails it to the right place?

Hey all. Ollie's visa was scheduled for delivery on MONDAY, but Ollie talked to someone who managed to reschedule delivery for Saturday! the visa came, he made all his flights despite the horrible customs line at JFK, (no luggage tho!). He's napping off the jet lag and I shall soon be joining him. Thanks all for your support
-
Still biting fingernails here. Hope ours comes by saturday. Thanks for all the info Lizzy!
-
Hehe I think I heard more about the interview from you then from Ollie
I'm really glad you introduced yourself! He doesn't have internet at the moment and has never followed VJ as I do, so I can totally imagine the "who the hell are you?" look. He mentioned they messed you about a bit with the tickets, glad it all worked out. Let us know when you get your visa!
-
was just reading back thru history and someone else got their passport back in 2 days despite the 7 day warning. We'll see! I know Ollie paid for the extra service (before 8 am) and what-not. I suppose if he doesn't have it by Saturday morning, we'll rebook. :|
-
mines booked for the 20th June, i payed for the 8 am (before) service and i aint got it yet LOL.
Doesn't sound good. anyone else have any news on delivery times?
Thanks for the info Lizzy, if you can, lmk when you get yours!

Ollie had his interview today, and it went great, except... They said the standard visa processing time was 5-7 days and they may not send the visa till the 21st, and this is standard?? I thought the visa was usually delivered within 1-2 days from the London embassy. Based on that assumption, i booked his return flight for the 18th. made the reservation a month ago. It's going to be expensive to change.
So... did he just get the standard party line here, or do they really now take a week to get visas out??
Thanks!
-
I'm very pleased (okay, estatic lol) to announce that you can now mark us as APPROVED!
Just got off the phone with my wife-to-be, and her visa was approved!!!! She mentioned she seen latititudes there ;-)
Hehe I just got off a very bad connection w/Ollie - we're approved as well!!
However... Ollie was told the paper work takes 5-7 days to process and he won't receive it till next wednesday????!!! I thought it was a 24 hour thing!! I booked his flight for sunday, made the reservations weeks ago. its going to be expensive to change.

i'm curious too

He's shipping his danged robotic dog and he doesn't trust the baggage handlers. :| Extra baggage was my first thought too.
He's leaving or sold virtually everything he had so I'm not about to push the issue, its vital that he brings what's important to him and if he wants it to go via post w/insurance, then that's the way we'll do it.

Ollie's interview is on the 14th and he flies to SFO on the 18th (wow)
He's sold everything he owns, except for a few boxes of keepsakes and such, 10-25 kg.
For a 25 kg box, UPS is quoting 145 GBP and fedex quotes 96 GBP
Has anyone found anything cheeper?

Ollie want's to take MY surname. *shakes head* modern times, geez. I won't give mine up for anything, and his family is worthy of disowning.
Our timeline: Ollie comes to the USA on June 18, our wedding is July 1st.
I know how to change his name in the UK, and get a new passport. What I don't know is how to handle things on the USA side... Do we put his new name on all the AOS paperwork? What about his SSN? the AOS interview will require evidence, so do we get all our joint credit cards and such in his New name or Old name, and will the banks be kosher with this if his k1 visa only specifies his old name? Or should we do everything in his Old name and change after the AOS interview? Is their a process for changing the name on the 'green card'?

If you want to marry in the US and then stay while your status is sorted out, that is exactly what the fiance visa K-1 is designed to do---sounds like you've got it!
This is technically true but to clarify ...
There is no way to come to the US on the Visa Waiver Program, get married, and then file paperwork. (at least not legally, if you have Intent to do this before booking the tickets).
The K-1 visa breaks the process into 2 parts. The first part is (basically) "pre-approval" and takes 3-6 months. Durring this time, your fiance may come and go to the US (or you to the UK) but only under the visa waiver (tourist) program - subject to all the limitations that come with the VWP. Your fiance will need to receive mail in the UK, and go to london twice for an interview and medical.
Once you get your 'pre-approval,' your fiance can come to the US on a K-1 visa, you can get married, and he can stay while you get your status sorted out (this is called the Adjustment of Status part of the process, or AOS).
The other option is to get married in the USA, return to the UK, and stay there untill the "pre-approval" and "AOS" go through. Usually this takes longer than going the K-1 route - or at least means you are apart for longer.

Thanks for all the details! we've rescheduled Ollie's flights accordingly! can't wait till he's back...
-
cool
any recommendations on being there to receive it? will they just put it thru the letterbox?
-
Hello all!
just a quick question: Following the London interview, did most people get their visas in the post within 48 hours? did you have to be there to receive it? could you request it be delivered to your work? do they deliver on saturdays?
Thanks!

General AOS Questions
in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas
Posted
I guess I can help a little. The first thing I did for the AOS process was to make our cover letter/table of contents. This provided a framework for the whole packet. it will need tweaking to work for anyone else, but i hope it helps a little. I think the only part you need to file is the i-485+paperwork, the i-765 and i-131 are optional.
