Rael got a reaction from DLESPITIA in J1 to CR1.
Hello, first and foremost I am doing this for a friend.
Basically, the spouse is a USC. He married his wife in Tonga but she is here in the US on a J1 visa. He wants to change her J1 to a CR1 Spousal. Question 1 is, does she need to go back to Tonga in order for him to initiate the CR1 spousal visa or can he initiate it in the middle of her J1 student visa?
    Thank you so much guys!

You should apply for a new passport and keep the old one with the visa with you (that’s what they suggest with a tourist visa). For immigration visa I would call and ask US Embassy directly if they will reprint it or how to solve this situation. The page with your picture and information can’t be damaged and used while traveling.

You apply for a new passport through your  country’s embassy.

You’re doing adjustment of status so I’m not sure what visa stamp you’re worried about? If you’ve filed for AOS, your NOA1 serves as proof of your eligibility to remain in the US. Once you get your green card, that will serve as proof of status.

Wow, I didn't know signatures needed to be within 30 days of submission. It has taken us a while to gather all the documents needed, and I just check and my fiance's g-325 is dated 03/05/2014. Its currently 04/03/2014.. so should I have her resend me another? I didn't remember seeing in the instructions that all signatures must be within 30 days of submission. Can you provide me a reference for this?
