  1. Another option is to take advantage of COBRA. This process allows you to continue your current health insurance after you have left your employer. Your premiums will go up significantly as the company will no longer be subsidising them, but if that's not an issue, it could be the easiest route. Ask your HR dept for details of COBRA and they should be able to point you in the right direction and/or provide you with forms.

  2. Hi everyone,

I also just just received notice that my card is being produced.

    I-751 field on 5th September 2017

I-551 stamp in passport on September 5th 2018 as year extension letter expired

I-797 notice of action and congratulations letter that conditions have been lifted received on 30th November 2018.

Filed at VSC, no transfers occurred, no interview required.

    Next step, citizenship!

  3. You can apply for an EAD (work permit) on a K-1, as soon as you have an SSN, BUT, this EAD will take 60 days (or longer) to process, will cost $350 (approx) and will run out when your I-94 runs out.

After you get married, you apply for an EAD as well as adjustment of status and this EAD will be processed in the normal amount of time (60-90 days). However, when your first EAD runs out, you cannot legally work until you have the next one in your hands.

With my timeline, I'd end up being able to work for a couple of weeks then have to stop working for about 7 weeks, then start again. Not really worth applying for the EAD until I'm married in my opinion...

  4. Likewise, I had to wait a couple of weeks after medical & notice of readiness until I received my interview date. From memory I think I submitted on March 25th and received the interview date on April 12th. I was then assigned an interview date of May 6th. Good luck!

  5. A good way to do it is by using FairFX, you can order a dollar card, load it up before travelling and then take it out at an ATM using the card. They charge $2 every time you use the card at an ATM so just take it out in as big a chunks as you can. Because it's all done online, you get a pretty good exchange rate.

  6. Hi Mike, I'm the same pretty much. Changed from "Ready" to "Administrative Processing" on May 6th (same day as my interview), and changed again on May 8th to "Issued". You don't hear anything until you get the email from DX Group to say that it's ready for collection/delivery, but are told if you don't hear from them after 10 working days from when the status was changed to "Issued", then contact the embassy. So if I don't hear by next Wednesday I'll be contacting them!

  7. Congratulations! I too did not receive any additional information. He pretty much said "your visa has been approved" and then let me go with no further word! I did get my original certs back - he stamped the photocopies with a "this is a certified copy and I have seen the original" stamp and gave them back to me. Like Nich said though, there's no further need for the police cert, so no harm done.

  8. Hi M. The experience was remarkably less stressful than I had anticipated (despite reading everyone else's accounts that it really isn't that bad at all). I was called to the desk and handed over all the documents they asked for on the list of documents. Take photocopies of any that you want back and they'll just keep the photocopy.

Then called back again with a different guy who asked me some very basic questions such as "what does your fiancé do for a living" and "does she have kids". Seriously, nothing more taxing than that. Then he said I was approved and off I went!

  9. Yes it is. I only received it on email. I received 4 emails during the MRV payment process: 1. Yatri: U.S. DoS Visa system new user account verification; 2. Yatri: U.S. DoS Visa system confirmation of successful payment; 3. Yatri: U.S. DoS K Visa Application Confirmation (action required); 4. US Visa Personal Courier-In Instructions.

It is the final number 4 email that had the barcode on! Hope that clears it up.

  10. I answered the query re the other barcode in the other thread where you posted. Sorry for the confusion but it seems as though you don't need it anyway, as long as you have something to prove you've paid the MRV fee. I was getting panicked in the waiting hall at the embassy as it came up on the big screen that you needed it. But apparently not...

  11. So today I had my interview at the London embassy and was approved! So so so pleased and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone on here, especially those providing detailed assistance with the guides. I've been quiet on here up to now, simply because all my questions have been answered by existing guides or threads, but I will be writing my own account and also I hope that I can use my experience to help others on here as best I can.

This is truly an invaluable resource and once again, thank you very much!

  12. Just an FYI re money questions. When I visited my fiance in March for a week, during the K1 process, I was asked by the CBP Officer how much money I had on me. I answered honestly - about $50. He had previously asked me about my working status - employed; he then asked me: "how are you going to fund your trip, by credit card?" So I said that yes, I was going to use my cards! He kind of gave me the answer in the question, so maybe that's a good response for future. Afterwards, he gave me a gentle warning not to get married while I was there and sent me on my way.

  13. I had my medical on March 12 and submitted readiness form on March 25. Heard back on April 12 for an interview on Tuesday May 6. I used the contact form just to email check after two weeks since I submitted my readiness form and was granted an interview time very quickly after that (like within hours)

  14. Try checking out Skyscanner - they give you loads of options to search on and will hunt for the cheapest across pretty much every airline you can think of. Plus, you can put a price checker on that emails you when it goes up/down.
