Hi ro&ry, I am also living at DFW area, currently employed but still on the look out for something better. It's easier to look for a job when you have one.
Since i don't have my credentials right now, i can't practice my profession .

After a looonnng wait, we are now scheduled for interview on Nov 24. We are living at Denton County, TX and under the jurisdiction of Dallas Field Office.

I have been there and yes it is worth seeing and diving in it's clear water. We were in a private vehicle so im not sure about public transportation.
Once you get there don't forget to witness the feeding of the fishes. :-)

In my case, all IDs (DL & State ID) I have so far have the same expiration as the EAD card in the absence of the green card. I guess you can go back to the DMV office to update your status once you have received your green card.
Anyone please correct me if I am wrong in this presumption and enlighten us. Thank you

Thank you for posting but for some reason, passport renewal application for this outreach program is already closed since August 9, 2014 according to an automatic reply email by the consular office. How did that happen when it explicitly say that they would not accept applications before the press release of the outreach event? They posted the press release at August 27, 2014 around midnight.

Thank you all, like everyone else, we just wanted to get things over with so we can move on. We just wanted to know our options and be proactive.

Based on my experience in Texas, EAD is a requirement.

We just got an email from USCIS that our case (AOS) is currently stuck in the pipeline since Dallas Field Office is still backed up so bad.
We are so tempted to seek help from the Ombudsman and/or State representatives.
Can we seek one before the other? or can we seek both at the same time?

it's just sad when your case is one of those stuck in a clogged pipeline (Dallas Field Office) and kept in the dark how long is the waiting time

thank you for posting your experience about the outreach program. I am planning to available of this service this coming September and hopefully I won't have any problem since my passport expired last May.

I guess it's part of the journey as an immigrant, i'm totally in a different career now. Should i want to be in the same career, I would need to be licensed and take the Bar examination.
