Congratulations! I don’t think you should worry that much. Maybe the interviewer was just easy. You mentioned he said you will receive a 10-yr GC. That’s great! My husband and I have been married for 4 years and have two kids, I was out of status for almost 4 years. So I am really hoping my interview will go fast and easy as yours! So far I haven’t got any changes, still waiting for EAD/AP and no changes online about AOS as well. I can’t answer your question, but Congratulations! 🥂
Thank you!! Wish you best of luck on your journey
when did you send in your aos packet?

Yep, we done ours on Monday just gone. Thank you!!
Our case status hasn’t changed either it still says “Interview is scheduled”.
I am so lucky my EAD came in the post the day of my interview so I’ve been able to go and apply for my SSN and look for work etc before green card arrives.
Best of of luck with everything, I’m sure everything is fine but I do understand the worry!!
Thank you! I haven't received my EAD and it was never "approved" cause I think we went straight to AOS. I can't wait to get our approval letter too just to ease my mind. Hopefully it will be here by next week. I will keep you posted!
and good luck on our new journey. I hope job searching will be easy for both of us!

Just to add to this - yesterday I received a letter in mail - approval notice on very light green paper .
"this is to notify you that your application for permanent residence has been approved, you should receive your new card within the next 3 weeks"mind is officially at ease.
Yay, that's such a good news!! Congrats!!
Your interview was on 10/02, right? Ours was 10/03 and our case status hasn't changed yet. Did yours change? Fingers crossed we hear something soon.

How many years have your being married. A friend is being married for a year and six months and want to know if they wil give her 2yrs or 10 when she files this month

Yes, sweetadams is right. You'll get 10yrs GC if you're married for more than 2 years.

I got my interview notice the day after I received my EAD approval notification‚ so all told I had my EAD for a little over a month before I got my green card.
I received the same form letter as you after our interview (Los Angeles) field office‚ but we were not approved on the spot. The "held for review" checkbox was selected on our letter and the IO said he saw no issues and we should hear within a few days.
I too had been out of status for many years and had field for AOS with my ex-wife but never completed the process due to divorce.
Anyway... I received approval notification the day after the interview.
PD = 1/17/17
Interview Date = 6/7/17
Approval email / texts = 6/8/17
I-130 approval (mailed copy) = 6/12 (status never changed online - nor has it to this day from the initial status)
Card was mailed notification = 6/13/17
1-485 approval / welcome letter (mailed copy) = 6/13/17
10 Year Green Card (delivered) = 6/16
Start to finish = 150 days.
Hope this helps
Thank you!! Our timelines/case are very much alike. So if our IO checked the first box, it must mean we're approved and no further review is needed, right? I have never received any approval or update on my AP/EAD and case status still shows "case is received".
Also, congrats to us both! After years of waiting, we're finally on the next step

That's what it sounds like is that they reviewed everything before and just for formality interviewed you for whatever it's worth. It looks like they already had they mind made up to approve you and just wanted to double check everything in person, so don't worry. Also be thankful that you got an interview because on average approvals come faster with an interview than without one.
Thank you! That's what I think too, it's just my anxiety double thinking and doubting everything. But don't get me wrong, I am extremely thankful and grateful for the smooth and fast aos process that we had
we submitted our aos packet july 5 and we had our interview yesterday.

Congrats!
Did you send a whole lot of evidence in with your AOS? The officer must have been satisfied with that and didn't feel the need to probe further, so you got an easy interview.
We sent in a huge packet for AOS, and then I'd also prepared a binder full of evidence since applying for AOS. The officer didn't ask for anything, and didn't ask us any substantive questions, either. (I was kind of mad because I'd spend so long putting that extra evidence together!!!
)
Thank you! I frontloaded our AOS packet and put everything we needed there plus a LOT more that I think they'll need/want/ask for. I even put together a scrapbook of pics in our AOS packet. I'm the same way! I was sitting there thinking to please at least ask for pictures so I can show you the photobook I made that took me 3 sleepless nights to finish. LOL

When we had our interview, I don't remember getting this form, but honestly, I wouldn't read too much into it. The IO said they were recommending approval, and since you are already married more than 2yrs maybe he decided there was not a lot of reason to dig, or maybe this IO is just easy, who knows.
Regardless, Congrats!
Thank you! And yes, I was out of status for almost 2 years because we had a financial problem and we got pregnant as well so we decided to wait so I can stay home and raise the kids myself. That's actually the first question he asked to why we waited so long and when we told him our reasons he said he understand and it's a pretty good reason. That's why he gave us the 10yrs because he said we're married 2 yrs now. After telling us that we're approved, he gave us this letter for now as a "proof" that we are approved and that we had our interview and he also told us they'll mail out a leter of approval. But when we got home and I reread the letter thoroughly I was anxious because it states that we are still waiting for a final approval? (At least that's from my own understanding of the letter). My husband said no because if the IO had any doubts or saw any other discrepancies he wouldn't have checked the first box and went with the other ones instead. I guess I'm just making myself crazy lol.

Hi all!
We had our AOS interview yesterday and were approved. They told us we should receive our GC within 4-6 weeks and gave us this letter afterwards and he said they'll also mail us a letter of approval. He gave us the 10yr GC because we're married for 2yrs now and told us we can apply for citizenship after 3yrs. We didn't expedite anything, I actually never receive my EAD card and our case status (ead and ap) is still showing case is received. So I think we skipped the ead altogether because we had the interview pretty fast.
Also, our case officer/interviewer only asked us questions on the form or checklist like whats our full name, our address, birthdays and the yes/no questions. He didn't really ask any personal questions like where did we meet, when did we get married, etc.. After the general questions, he said he doesn't see any problems at all and he is giving us our 10yr GC and that's it. He also didn't ask for any other documents. I brought the entire copy of our AOS packet with me, brought more proof of relationship like house deed, bank statements and even made a 25 page photobook of our journey from beginning which he didnt even ask for or looked at. Does it sound okay? I'm so thankul but i'm also wondering and worrying why he never asked for anything and why it was so easy like that.Did anyone get a letter like this after their interview? And how long until you get your GC on hand? I just checked our case status online and it still hasn't changed from "Interview is Scheduled". -

Hi everyone!!
I entered the US 2 years ago under a K1 visa and married my husband within the 90 day period. We had some financial problems but we are now applying for AOS (after 2 years). My question is, will a past theft case deny my green card application?
Back story, I was a teenager (well, 19 to be exact) and I shoplifted to rebel against my mom. I was arrested but the case was dismissed just after a hearing - this happened in my country 5 years ago and not here in the US. I obviously got approved of a k1 visa even with my past case but I had to go to the NBI for an official interview scheduled by the US Embassy. Will this affect my case and result to being denied of a green card? All I have here in the US with me is a certified letter that my case is dismissed and my police record and nbi clearance saying that there's no criminal record and no derogatory record on file. I will of course attach a copies of those in my aos application. Is there something else I should do? I'm very worried that this will result to me getting deported and/or being denied of a green card. Should I really have to talk to an immigration lawyer? Please help!! I need some advice specially to someone who has been through the same case as I do!

Your social security number will not change with your name change, so if you know the number, it can be used.
I still know my social security number since it was on the papers from filing my K1 Visa. The guy who we talked to in the SS office here in KY said he's not sure how to handle changing names as it was the first time he encountered it. He said he can maybe try to give me a new number which i think is ridiculous. He said he's really not sure so he took my card and said he'll contact the uscis or dhs or whichever he needs to talk to. That is why I'm kinda confused and hesitant to still use my number., so whenever someone asks for it like the health dept i just tell them they took it back for some reasons. You have a social security number, it never changes. Hopefully you know it.

Hi all!! I got here in the US with a K1 visa along with my K2. I'm currently 9weeks pregnant and I don't have any insurance yet. My husband couldn't add me to his insurance before and now he doesn't even have his own due to changing jobs. I had SSN before from my J1 visa but the office took it when we tried to change my name on it prior to applying AOS. They said they'll try to change it but was having problems so right now i don't have my card and i don't even know if i can use it. Anyway, when we found out, we went to the health department (kentucky) to go get checked. They gave us temporary medical card that will last until sept 30 and they said to go to medicaid and apply for help since my husband is currently not earning enough. But unfortunately, medicaid denied us because I'm not a resident yet (but not illegal) and they would need my green card. So that was off our options. We are willing to pay for private insurance that will help us with this pregnancy. We are currently fixing all our papers and will apply for AOS hopefully within this week or next week. Has anyone ever been in the same situation? What type of insurance will accept us with no SSN? What's our best option? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you all so much in advance

hi
it depends, are his children still dependents and included in his taxes? if not then no, his children aren't included
the co sponsor send the same thing as the sponsor, plus proof of citizenship or LPR
My husband said they aren't his dad's dependents anymore. He's 30 and the other one is 27. So then i guess its just his dad, stepmom, and me and my k2. Thanks!
First off, what is his current income? Secondly, is he self-employed or an employee? If his current income meets the requirement, then he needs to provide proof of his current annual income with a letter from employer and/or recent pay stubs. Should not need a joint sponsor that way.
If he still wants to provide one, then he can of course. The household size for the joint sponsor would be himself, spouse, anyone he claims on his taxes, anyone he sponsored before, plus the intending immigrants. If he does not claim his own kids as dependents any longer, then they are not counted.
Oh, so his tax return doesn't matter as long as his current income can reach the annual income requirement? He just started a new job as an executive chef at a new restaurant 2 weeks ago. Will that be ok that he just started a new job? If it is, then he will surely be able to reach the 125% for this year. Do you think that would be accepted?
-
Hey everyone! My husband (USC) and I with my daughter (from a previous relationship) are about to file for AOS, EAD and AP. Unfortunately, when we got his tax return forms this year, his annual income was below the 125% requirement. It was due to him moving back to his hometown so that we will be living close to his family (which are all here), it made him quit his job and was jobless for a couple months as it was winter when he moved back here. We didn't need a co sponsor for our K1 visa process and now we were both lost on what to do. We were thinking on having his father as our co sponsor. His dad has only 2 kids including him which are both over 21 years old. He now only lives with his wife, my husband's stepmom. My question is that, what will then be his dad's household size? Is it him, his wife, his 2 kids and me and my k2 (total of 6)? Or will it only be him, his wife, me and my k2 (total of four)?
Also, what will be the requirements for the co sponsor?
I'm just so confused and i hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance, guys!!

The date will change every time someone opens your case file on their computer.... that is a good thing. Just be patient.
Eeeek!! I'm so excited i just checked my status and it says case is open and come back after two business days. I'm so excited as this was the first change I've had since my Oct 07 interview!! Yay please pray for me everyone!! Keeping my fingers crossed that me and my k2 get approved
-
Update:
USEM received the letter of explanation from NBI two weeks ago. My ceac status still shows its ready for interview but the date keeps changing and the last it was opened was Dec 10. It was just so frustrating that it won't even change to ready as open case or administrative processing.
On the other hand, if the case is denied, does it still go on administrative processing or straight from ready to denied?
I'm so worried and nervous about this journey.

I remember wife doing the same thing you are.... making yourself crazy because you read this and then you read that and someone says this
and pretty soon your in a tizzy.
You are making more out of this than you should. STOP READING.
Let the system work and you get some patience and have a drink.
In due time you will have your visa.
Key working is CONVICTION of a crime... your case was dismissed... yes? Stop beating a dead horse.
Defining Moral Turpitude
Thank you so much, Hank and Greenbaum!! What are we gonna do without you guys here, you really are angels of VJ!! ? I'm not really worrying about when the visa will come but i do worry about whether its gonna be approved or not. I don't care if it arrives after a month or two or three just as long as i get my visa and be back there with my love!! Please pray for me and hope you won't get tired helping everyone here in VJ. Will keep updating this post. I know this isn't the last time I'll need your help
-
case was dismissed... relax, be patient... all will be fine
I'm sorry for being so persistent but what about it being a crime of moral turpitude? I've read somewhere online about filing for a waiver? I do hope i won't be needing that.
-
I just went to NBI earlier and got a new letter of dismissal from the court where I was charged before heading there. There wasn't really any formal interview at the NBI. They just had some papers from USEM and they just asked for my court dismissal letter and have me sign it. The officer in charge told me they would be forwarding it to the embassy hopefully this friday if its already signed by the director and everything was set.
I remember asking the CO (window 63 if I remember it clearly) if my case will affect my visa issuance. He told me they would just need a letter of explanation from NBI and if everything's ok he said they would start processing my visa. He said he doesn't see any reason to why i would get denied from this as long as i comply with the additional requirement (atleast that's what i heard). The CO that interviewed me was really nice. Will he still be the one reviewing it until the end or does it fall under a different CO?
Ugh i hate this. I'm being so paranoid and i hate thinking i would never be with my love back there in the US. ?
-
With your court papers showing the dismissal you will have smooth sailing. My wife had 10 cases that she had to dig back more than 10 years at her city court house. She got the papers and showed up in front of the NBI. They looked over the paperwork and were satisfied and returned the 221(g) back to USEM. 2 weeks later she had her visa in hand and ready to travel.
Relax.... yours sounds like a "slam dunk".
Thanks everyone for replying. I'm being so paranoid and reading a lot about this online. Apparently, shoplifting/theft is considered crime involving moral turpitude which can greatly affect visa eligibility. I'm worried that I might get denied because of this. I'm so embarrassed at what i did but there's nothing i can do to take it back but man up to all the consequences. Will it really be "that big" of a deal even if its just a petty theft and is dismissed already? If i do get approved (crossing fingers), will it affect my obtaining a green card? I need someone who had gone through the same situation as mine with a petty theft that got an approval/denial. This is killing me so bad
-
Hi everyone. I was interviewed on Oct 07 with my K2 and was given a 221G due to nbi no criminal record remark. Both our status are still ready for interview. Last friday, nov 21, i received an email from usem that they would be needing me to undergo an interview at nbi manila for the letter of explanation. Is there anything else i need to give the nbi besides the court dismissal letter?
A little back story: it was a theft case (petty shoplifting) almost 3yrs ago but was immediately dismissed after couple hearings. Will it affect my visa approval? Anyone here with the same case as mine (theft)? And does anyone know someone who got denied because of that? I'm really worried that a stupid thing i did when i was a teenager may affect my visa application now. But i've been in the us last year for 6months under a J1 visa so i think that's a plus because i've been in their country and had good record there. I even have tax return from them last year from working.
I hope anyone could give me some advice and tell me their experience. I know this has been talked about here a lot but I just need some peace of mind right now I'm really worried
Thank you so much to everyone who'll reply...

Congratulations!! I had my interview on Tuesday (10/02) and was told we were approved and was given a letter. But I haven't received any approval notice in the mail yet and our status is the same as yours. Your GC should arrive soon!
hopefully I get my notice in the mail next week. Can't wait!!
