  1. CASE COMPLETE !!

Verbal confirmation by NVC Supervisor 18th Dec, 2014

Initial AOS/IV Scan Date: Sept 29th

Verbal Checklist items from NVC agent: 26th Nov

NVC delayed Checklist email for 3 weeks - in that time I was able to get Supervisor to review case as the information requested in the Checklist already existed in the original documents submitted.

Supervisor reviewed while on phone and confirmed case complete!

Is it likely I would get a January interview?

    Good luck to all !!!

When I got my verbal CC they gave me an interview date and time and then it took 4 days to get the official e-mail. Have you found out yet? Call and bug them.

  2. I believe everyone that tries qualifying on assets alone gets this letter. It's basically just saying that at the interview, the consular officer will ultimately decide if what you provided is enough. I'd suggest bringing an updated AOS to the interview with your new job information, as well as having the assets section filled out. So, bring that as well as an employment letter and all pay stubs by that time.

By the way, the interview they're talking about in the letter is the standard interview everyone gets, at the consulate/embassy.

Thank you so much Saylin, this really puts my mind at ease. I will make sure to fill out another AOS then.

I hope everyone here has a smooth process and a very happy holiday.

    :star:

  3. Hello everyone, happy holidays and I hope you are all keeping your sanity during this time of year!

I just received something addressed to my husband, the applicant. I resubmitted the AOS fixing my gross income (never mind they had the numbers right in front of them, but anyways...). I was living and working in Japan, therefore although I made good money they don't consider it in American taxes and so my numbers where 0 for the past 2 years.

Well, I am trying to support him on assets alone. This is purely checkings and savings and I have 3 x the amount above the poverty line in my bank in America, and another 2x the amount in my bank in France. It clearly states I only need 3x the amount for sponsoring a spouse, am I right?!

I just got this from the NVC:

The NVC has received the information you have submitted in reference tothe Affidavit of Support. Please be advised that the Affidavit of Support information you have provided does not appear to meet the minimum income requirement according to the current poverty guidelines to sponsor the intending immigrant(s) for this petition. The consular officer will makea decision regarding this requirement at the time of your interview. Inorder to avoid delays, you may wish to submit an additional Affidavit ofSupport (Form I-864) for a/another Joint Sponsor to the National VisaCenter to assist in sponsoring the intending immigrants.

Does this mean he will get an interview and they will then decide?? It seems that way. We do not have the possibility of a joint sponsor. I also now have a good paying job that I got after we filed the AOS. I would assume it would be ok to have a letter written by my employer saying when I started and what my wages are, along with paystubs to prove further he can be supported.

    This is so frustrating.

If anyone has had a similar letter or experience with this please give me advice on what our best steps would be. I really need some advice. I am wondering, too, if we get an interview (which this nvc email implies) that I might need to join him for it if it would help.

  4. Good morning,

We too have just had a communication this morning from the NVC by email, which is funny because I only called them last night (and learned nothing from the person who read through their script robotically).

    We received an AOS CHECKLIST:

My husband has to provide the GROSS income and fill out a new I-864. He has been living in Canada with me for the past 7 years, but has filed US returns. His most recent return shows a negative GROSS income.

My question is: how do we deal with a negative GROSS income reported? Have others come across this or something similar?

We have provided a lot of information and concrete steps he has taken to re-establish domicile in the US. Will this work in our favour?

    Have others experienced this?

    Many thanks!

Hi! I had the same issue...I reported what I made living in Japan and they wanted the specific number from Box 22 on my 1040...which was 0 for one year and $-13. for another year. Silly if you ask me! Income earned in another country should certainly count but whatever. An on top of that they have my taxes in from of them so an addendum made electronically would have made better sense here for me but they needed me to fill out the form again and re-mail it. What a process, right! OK, rant over;)

So, i reported exactly what was in those boxes. If the sponsor doesn't work in the states I assume you will have to go by assets or get a co-sponsor. For us, we are going by assets. I just got a job last week but we sent all of our stuff off before that happened so we are hoping for the best.

    Best of luck to you!

  5. We haven't even been allowed to pay the IV bill and the AOS bill was released/paid in June... I get different answers as to why this is every time I call. I recently read some reviews on working for the NVC just to see what people who work there say about the company and it isn't pretty. There is no rhyme to the reason here. Anyone have advice as to how I can get them to release the bill so we can get on with this?

  6. There's so many people going to Seattle! I should start a Seattle forum! :ot:

Hi, so it looks like you got check listed. I was wondering, I was check listed for 2 things...do I redo the paperwork with changing those two things only, or because we are doing assets only which requires me to put the contents of our savings, should I do an updated version of that, too? Basically do I just do what was asked?

Just curious what you did :goofy:

  7. I feel completely sick :crying: I was check listed for my AOS, after hearing nothing for 93 days. I'm check listed for putting down my foreign income, rather than adjusted gross income from america, which is 0 because I was living and working abroad for nearly 3 years. Am I missing something or is that part unclear? I may not have read it properly but I can't see where it says 'must be income earned in america. I don't get it. I filed taxes every year and i submitted the three years of my foreign income. WHICH DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAYS because we are going with assets only.

It looks like it will be at least 5 more months without my spouse. This is so frustrating. Is there anyway to get checklists processed faster? It says 'please allow 60 days' but that's what it said for my AOS in July and it took over 90 days to review.

  8. hey sorry it took me a while to answer, they did changed my embassy. I'm still trying to finish my documents with nvc though.

Hi...I have a similar situation. I changed my husbands embassy because he finished his work in Japan and moved back to his home country of France. I keep getting the run around from the NVC. It's been over 2 months since I requested change of embassy and nothing has happened yet. Everytime I call and ask they say they can't give me a time frame on the change and they can do nothing for me. We still need to fill out the DS260. He filled out the DS 261 nearly 3 months ago and they are telling me until the embassy change is approved, or done, we can't fill out anything else. My AOS was accepted 80+ days ago and they are telling me the same thing, until embassy change they wont approve it or deny it. I really don't understand why this is the case. We feel like we are being put on the back burner because of a simple change...one that wouldn't be an issue if this process didn't take so long to begin with.

I guess my question is how far along have you moved since your last post and how long did it take for them to change your embassy? Did you have to keep calling and bugging them or did they just do it for you?

  9. Hi all, I suppose I want to vent a little. NVC is so unorganized it is maddening. We arrived at NVC in May of this year, and waited till end of june for any bills to become available. For some reason we could only pay the AOS, my husbands DS261 was filled out, but this small questionnaire has yet to be 'checked' so that he can pay the DS260 and get on with this process. The AOS I sent was accepted July 7th (it took a week of sitting there for them to scan it in!)

Soooo, we are waiting for the approval (hopefully) of the AOS and the release of the bill for the DS260. We also had to change embassies from Tokyo to France because my husbands work ended and he had to go back to his home country. That alone took 3 emails and taking to 3 separate people to get them to start processing the embassy change. When I called to check on why we couldn't fill out the DS260 yet, they gave me this as an excuse....changing embassies.

And on top of it all two months after them receiving my AOS, they sent me an email saying it would be 60 more days to process it. Then the next day they sent me an email saying I hadn't contacted the NVC for more then a year and I had to refile my paperwork. Obviously they are not organized at all and blindly answering emails. We just got to the NVC in May. I just don't know how to get more info from these guys. I've tried being nice, I've tried asking for a manager, I've tried being nice again, nothing works.

I know you all are in my boat, just wanted to say hello and talk to fellow frustrated spouses. I hope you are all getting somewhere :)

  10. As long as you don't reach case closed before the change is approved, it doesn't necessarily have to elongate the process. It took us from sending an e-mail May 24 all the way to July 18 (a couple days ago) to get my husband's change of embassy approved, but we continued with the process normally, as instructed. You can see more details in my signature. It did not delay the process for us at all, but his work contract here (in the new country) is up in mid September, so we were getting to the point where we were thinking of calling and trying to cancel the change! That's how damn long it took. But to change it back to Colombia, ugh, I don't even want to think about it. So it's looking likely that we'll have a month or two (or three?) here in Argentina using the savings that were intended for our new life in the U.S. to pay rent and twiddle our thumbs as we wait before he's actually able to do the interview. :/

Maybe you could call and see if there's evidence you could include for him before he actually moves, so you can get that e-mail in now? I wish there were a separate e-mail address for important stuff like this that has to be done by e-mail. Instead, we have to use the same one everyone uses for questions they could just as well ask over the phone. I'd call and ask about your situation as it is, just to make sure you get the proper instructions. Good luck!

Thanks :) good luck to you both as well. I can imagine changing back to Columbia would be a headache so I hope for a speedy interview for him.

I spoke with a rep and because my husband is a French citizen working in Japan, he said all I needed to do was send them an email with a copy of his French passport and a brief explanation for why we need the change. He has a work contract in Japanese I was hoping to avoid being translated if possible.

Here is hoping for he best all around!

  11. While case number and IIN is available at NVC, we have already completed I864 form for AOS and we have all supporting documents ready. We are going to file all my spouse's -the US citizen- tax returns (1040 forms) for the last three years 2011, 2012 and 2013, but I have a question, for this 2014 my spouse has only income from a Spanish employer. Do we need to include it as current income in the I864 form? Does it make sense? Supposedly this income will not be real any longer when we entry in the US, cause he will be quitting his job by then, but it is a current income in fact....I would appreciate your help....

I believe you have to put income from a US employer only as current, so to answer your question I think the answer is no. I made some money this year in Japan (jan-march), and I answered my income currently as being 0. I am using assets only to support my husband. So I showed this but as for current US income it was 0.

  12. I feel your pain and think the same about this process!

At least now he won't have to get his birth certificate, French police certificate translated...If it is not yet done!

We thought ahead and had things translated already. Luckily the police certs we had to get were in English already :) and we heard the Paris embassy is very organized so hopefully getting the interview will go smoothly. Happy thoughts all around. I suppose all we can all do is try to be positive. Best of luck everyone and thank you for listening to me.

  13. Hi Everyone,

Just a little vent because, well, just because this is so frustrating.

Why is the NVC so messed up right now? We were approved through USCIS in early May. I called NVC to see what was taking so long to get an email and they said it was scanned in on May 21st, and it would be 30 business days. I think I talked to that jerk Parker someone mentioned a few days ago. He wasn't so nasty on the phone with me on this call, although I felt rushed to get off the phone, but I has waited 45 min to talk to someone so i had a lot of questions. This was June 12th.

So end of June rolls around and I call back and get the same guy I talked to originally. This time he says 30 business days from the day I called the 1st time (june 12). I said nooooo, you told me 30 biz days from May 21st when the petition was scanned in and he argued with me to the point that he put me on hold about 2 times in the middle of me speaking and pretty much yelled at me. I asked to talk to a supervisor who was nice, and about 2 days later we were able to pay the AOS bill and my hub submitted the DS261.

I overnighted the AOS after paying the bill and waited about 2 weeks to call. I called and talked to a really nice guy this time. He said they just scanned in the AOS...it took over a week to scan in something I overnighted. UGH.

So, then of course the guy said it would be 30 biz days to get to reviewing the AOS and the same for the DS261.

We can't even fill out the DS260 until the bill becomes available and that won't happen until they review the DS261. It has like 3 questions on it!! I asked why it took so long to move past the 261 and he said that this 5 min process (his words) is now taking 30 BUSINESS DAYS. WHAT?? :wow:

Needless to say this is very frustrating. To top it all off my husbands contract in Japan is now ending and we have to change the embassy from Japan to his home country of France. Another process that is going to elongate this process.

We applied in November thinking this process would take less then a year but it is not looking likely. I asked the last NVC guy when we would likely get an interview if we are approved and he said probably November. This is putting our lives on hold!

Is there anything else I can do to get this moving? I have called NVC about 4 times to check on things, but I don't think that is helping at all.

  14. Hi everyone,

We received our letter from the NVC yesterday (I-129F was filed early May) and immediately started the DS-160 form online. That will be completed today. Our question is; do we now have to wait for the letter from the (in this case) embassy in Sweden before booking a medical examination and interview? Or can that process be started already?

This forum has truly be helpful and amazing. Thank you!!

    Hi ZillaOlsen,

I am still waiting to pay the DS260 invoice for my hubby. The NVC is taking forever on this process. How long after the NVC received your stuff did you get to start paying invoices and sending payment?

Anyways, to answer your question the best I can from what I've seen with other people, it just depends on the doctors. I would call them and try to book it. I think it varies from country to country. This is from what I've read and not personally experienced. It's worth a call. I think they may want you to bring the letter, but if you explain the process is taking longer then usual then they may allow you to get the medical done without it.

    Good luck!!

  15. Was the three days before you could pay Aos from the email from nvc or from when you rang up and got it? Seems to be a week or so lag between the two right now. It also seems to be taking about 30 days from Aos being invoiced to IV from what I gather on others posts :( also, it depends if you have a lawyer or not. Aos and IV should become available at the same time with a lawyer.

Oh, I see. Well, I called and talked to a supervisor at NVC because I called on June 12th to check on my case, and they said they received it on May 21st. They said it would be about 30 business days from the May date. Then I called again in late June to check on the status, and this is when they gave me my C# and IIN, but said it would be 30 business days from June 12th (the day I called to check on it and obviously the day they decided to really start on it). So I asked to speak to a supervisor about it, and she said it would be a few days. It took 2 days after this to receive the e-mail and invoice for the AOS.

Now we wait to pay the IV bill. My husband is living in Japan and we were hoping when we applied in November that he would be able to have his interview in Tokyo before the end of July (and before he moves back to France), but that is just not going to happen at this point.

  16. Yes, I think that's the case. The Aos and IV are available to pay at the same time. I assume once they are paid then the Ds 260 is available to fill in. Once that's done and they have both packages, it's just a case of waiting for them to be scanned and then wait for CC. If no checklist, it seems to be about five weeks from scan to CC right now, think they are on May 27th.

Lol. I really need to learn how to quote and reply on this thing. I'm not even hoping for Sept now, October seems realistic. I can't see CC until August at the earliest, without a checklist. Damn, this process sucks. Surely there has to be a better way?

I there, I was just wondering, I have a similar timeline for NVC as you do, my AOS fee was available, so we paid it and I send off the affidavit, but the IV fee has not been invoiced as of yet. Is that common? We really want to get moving on this but it seems like it is going to drag out from task to task...

  17. Hi NVC waiters, today I called for the 2nd time. The first time I called was June 12th, where they said they received our petition on May 21st (it was approved and sent to NVC on May 7th i think). They told me it would take 30 business days from the 21st. I called again today and now they are saying it will take 30 business days from when they started processing it on June 12th ***the day i called initially! What should we do next? I was told by the representative that when things are ready to be filled out online, that we will get an email instructing us to our next step. Have others gotten the same advice?

I was able to get a case number and IIN today thankfully. My husband lives in Japan and will move back to his home country of France at the end of July. We were hoping that he would get an interview by july so that we could do that in Japan, but it is not looking likely since NVC is moving so slowly.

  18. I was able to get through to NVC today. Our case was approved at Nebraska on the 7th-ish of May and it took until the 21st for NVC to receive it. They say it takes 10-20 business days to get a case number. Ugh, this is going to take longer then I thought.

My main concern is for our affidavit. I am sponsoring my hubby on assets alone. I've just moved back to the states and I'm studying for a new career. We have more then enough for assets only and I'm looking for success stories for people in a similar situation. Anyone have good experiences with this?
