It wasn't available online until 6/27, and we're still waiting for the original to arrive. But it's pretty exciting to know the end of this process is 2 weeks away!

Our inteview was on 6/6 and we just received and Oath Ceremony letter for 7/10/2019. We'll be at the same ceremony!

My wife was approved at her interview on 6/5. It was short and the officer was friendly, at the San Diego office. She was waiting for an hour and the interview was about 20 minutes long.
They asked her:
1. Which state has the most people
2. Who is the father of our country
3. Which movement tried to abolish racism
4. What is the Emancipation Proclamation
5. What is an amendment
6. Who signs bills into laws
Now we're just waiting for a date for her oath ceremony

Yes, as mentioned we did a K-1 Visa since we could not marry in Mexico.

I never went through the official residency process while living in Mexico, but I proved that my wife and I were living there together through bills and the lease, we translated any and every documentation that I had with my name and address on it for the process (we had to do a K-1 since marriage wasn't an option). The bank statements are a good solid record. Can you get cable or internet in your name?

I do not have experience with couriers in Brazil, but in Mexico we are leery of mailing important documents, so we decided to pick it up at the courier's office (DHL) instead of having it delivered to our house, we were able to choose one nearby. It worked very well for us, and I remember that it only took a few days to arrive.

I am so sorry to hear that this happened, and that you felt so unsupported and isolated. You are totally correct, you are in a new place with a new language and customs and processes, and it is your partner's responsibility to help you navigate all of it.
My partner has reminded me on more than one occasion that she is in a much greater position of precariousness than I, just given her migratory status, not to mention all of the other aspects of the process. When I look at her sacrifices when compared to my own, it is clear that she has given up a lot and allowed herself to be vulnerable in a way that I haven't had to be. I have to constantly remind myself that she sacrificed a lot for us to be able to be together and to make sure that she knows I will support her through everything, all of the details and the emotions.
I feel very lucky that she could articulate her feelings and the complexity of her experience because it has helped me know how to be a better partner for her. Hopefully you will find a way to communicate yours to your partner.

I think your fiance needs to be physically present at the bank in order to open the account. Since my fiance and I lived together in her home country, I had gotten her an ITN to have her on my taxes. We were able to use the ITN to open the bank account along with her K-1 documents.
We were married, but you don't have to be in order to open a joint account.

- Interview scheduled for Apr 23rd. Passed / Approved same day.
- Oath Ceremony notification Apr 27th 2019
- Oath ceremony scheduled for May 17th
All steps took place at the local Tampa field office. I went in on the 17th and received my naturalization certificate. It's been a long process and I'm glad to be able to finally put this behind me! I'm going in tomorrow to my local post office to apply for the passport. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Yes, don't worry about it, we had a court date with a friend as a witness and then two years later we had a "weddingish" event with family. Big weddings are hard with immigration issues, they usually take a lot of planning, especially if you want both families to celebrate together. It would be good to think through your reasons, in case they do ask.

I was speaking to another VJ member who received their oath ceremony letter a little over a month after the interview from the same office, so I bet it will come any day now, it's just the last bit of waiting after this very long process....

Hi, meant to share, I finally did receive my oath ceremony letter roughly three weeks after getting the notice that the oath ceremony has been scheduled. Never showed up online in the portal. The letter came directly from the San Diego field office and the oath ceremony is in the City of El Cajon in San Diego County at some America festival on 5/18/19.

The interview day is the last day I plan to spend in Ciudad Juarez. The interview is at 9am. Thoughts about booking a flight at 7.50 pm flight leaving Juarez? Will this be enough time? Thoughts and opinions?

We chose to leave the next morning, but had the visa mailed to us via DHL in Mexico. We received the tracking number, and it came a few days after we were home in Tijuana.

Nope, you can still get married in CDMX if you are a resident of the city. There are a few other places too, but none of them are recognized outside of the areas where they are legalized.

To cut a long story short, I was engaged to my fiancé for a while (a dual Irish and American citizen living in Ireland for the past number of years), he then got a job offer in America and we thought we would go ahead with our wedding as normal and do the spouse visa. After seeking legal advice, we were advised on delaying the wedding and applying for the K1 visa.
We are applying for a K1 visa from Ireland as he has not been able to move yet. My question is for people in a similar situation what evidence did anyone supply along with your application? As we are living between our two homes in the same town we don’t have a lot of the typical evidence such as proof of visits to each other’s home countries. I have a lot of photos with us in them and I have hotel/flight/bus tickets from holidays we’ve been on and various show tickets.
Should that be enough? Also does your intent to marry/your statement on how you met have to signed by a solicitor?

My wife and I were living in Mexico together when we did the K1 (we would have done the spousal visa if marriage in Mexico had been an option for us). We were living together, so we submitted those documents along with the documents you mentioned.
People have been approved with less, but I prefer to front load and suggest that you consider the following:
- Use word or photoshop to bring the documents for particular trips together and create a narrative. If you make it easier for the officer to grasp the narrative of your relationship, it helps them to navigate it.
- Consider section dividers that list contents and give a brief explanation of why you are including particular evidence.
- Use bank both statements to help prove trips together (highlight the important entries)
- Use phone records to prove constant communication
- Include a selection text messages that show regular communication
- If you have letters that were sent to the two of you, scan and include them
- We included things like art exhibit tickets and concert tickets along with pictures from the event.
In the end, I am sure we included way more evidence than was necessary, but it was helpful for later processes and it was a kind of celebration of our time together.

Exactly, the K-1 is a one-time entry visa, after that she will not be able to enter again until she has Advanced Parole (which she must add to the AOS application (green card), it is not automatic). The Advanced Parole (AP) and Employment Authorization (EAD) are temporary while you are waiting to finalize the green card process. It took us several months to receive the AP, but once we did my wife had no problems traveling.

I'm not sure, but I just deleted it because it hasn't updated any on my information in a week. My status changed a week ago, but the app says nothing has changed, so I'll just keep checking my email instead. 🙂

I think it was on one of the papers they gave us, but I can't remember what it looked like. I do remember that we had chosen the specific DHL location and we called it to double-check and see if the package had arrived.
