  1. This thread says I don't need a certified tax return transcript https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/711145-n400-tax-returns-or-certified-tax-returns/?tab=comments#comment-9768930

    The USCIS Document Checklist states

    Quote

    4. Documents referring to you and your spouse:
    a. Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children; or
    b. Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past 3 years; or
    c. An IRS tax return transcript for the last 3 years.

Which makes me feel like the extra $150 for certified tax return transcripts is not required and I can use the return transcripts downloaded from the IRS website? Which one is accurate?

  2. Quote

When applying to become a naturalized U.S. citizen, there is a requirement that you show good moral character for the period relevant to your application: five years for most applicants and three years for those applying based on marriage to U.S. citizens. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) now requires that applicants bring “certified tax returns” to their naturalization interview. Failure to bring certified tax transcripts can result in a denial of the naturalization case due to failure to show that the applicant possesses the good moral character required to become a citizen.

Your tax returns are very important proof that you are eligible for naturalization. On the day of your interview, bring certified tax returns for the last 5 years (3 years if you are married to a U.S. citizen). Certified tax transcripts may be ordered by using Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 4506-T available at www.irs.govor calling 1-800-829-1040.

Do you have to pay $50 per certified tax transcript or can you submit the free tax transcripts available on the IRS website for the N400 interview?

    1.  Your Green card, itself,  is the I-551.

    2.  I would not redact the account numbers, but I don't think it would be an issue if you did.

    3.  No.

    Thank you.

This is not I-751 application, so no need to add  everything

    • Copies of Passport pages along with flight itinerary(2 trips out of US 2 weeks each)- no need
    • Copies of Utilities bills - you many add as additional evidence
    • Copies of 8-16 photos together (i.e. wedding, graduation, vacations etc.)- no need
    • Notarized Affidavits from family members.- no need
    • Health directive- no need
    • 3 months of bank statement would be fine, since you are adding tax transcript.
    • No need to notarized lease documents- but add them as additional evidence

When I did some research on additional evidence in this forum, I read that I should treat additional evidence as a mini-ROC ? So uploading this much evidence is with the online application is out of the norm? I'm trying to avoid an RFE's but it just feels odd that they don't want to see more evidence for the N-400.

  4. Planning to file online and will be uploading the following supporting evidence with the application. Here's the evidence and the questions I have prior to submitting the application for naturalization online.

    • Copy of U.S. Spouse Birth Certificate
    • Photocopy of Permanent Resident Card. Question: Provide a photocopy of the front and back of your Form I-551? Can I just submit copies of front and back of current green card or do I also have to submit the green card approval notice which I'm assuming is the I-551 Form?
    • Copy of marriage certificate;
    • Copy of U.S. spouse-divorce decree
    • 3 years of tax returns & transcripts
    • Joint bank and credit card statements. Question: How many months should we submit? Should we also redact account numbers?
    • Lease information. Question: We rent from a private homeowner, does the lease agreement need to be notarized by my landlord?
    • Insurance policies: Joint auto insurance, life insurance, medical insurance, advanced directive of health care
    • Copy of Driver's License.
    • Copies of Passport pages along with flight itinerary(2 trips out of US 2 weeks each)
    • Copies of Utilities bills
    • Copies of 8-16 photos together (i.e. wedding, graduation, vacations etc.)
    • Notarized Affidavits from family members.

Is your flight directly from the US to Ghana? If yes, it should not be an issue. The first few comments of that thread were misinformed. See the last few comments on Page 1 and most comments on Page 2. The concensus is if the passport is already expired then travel is risky (in your case you stated you still have 2 months before it expires).

Thank you for taking the time to read & clear this up for me.

Your passport still remained two months to expired and since you are a Ghanaian citizen you have no problem travelling with that passport back to Ghana even if would have been a transit to Ghana , because your final destination is Ghana and you are a Ghanaian citizen.

Most important is the passport still valid , not yet expired !!!

My first time coming to the US, the airport in Accra told my that I had to pay a fee since it was my first time traveling with a passport.  I knew this was incorrect and stood my ground.  They made me wait until 30 minutes before the flight to board the plane.

Traveling back to the U.S. I'm thinking I might need to get something from the airlines in writing just in case someone tries to do this again when leaving Accra.

  6. I decided to sort by most viewed posts in this forum just to make sure I didn't miss anything and I found this thread

Travelling internationally with an expired passport?

In this thread it was being stated that you couldn't travel with a passport that would expire in 6 months.  Ive emailed the Ghana embassy in hopes that I get a prompt response.  I'm really hoping I don't have travel short notice to Washington DC to obtain emergency travel documentation

  7. I just spoke with the Airline who told me they did not have any issues with the expiration date on the passport.  They did however tell me that I should speak to the Ghana consulate to determine if that would be an issue at the Ghana POE.

I'm willing to pay to expedite the passport but I'm unable to reach the Ghana DC consulate by phone.  I didn't think entering Ghana would be an issue since I'm currently a legal permanent resident of the US with a 10 year Green Card.  Will the fact that my Ghana passport expires in 2 months be a problem for me upon arrival in Ghana?  Thank you everyone I really appreciate the help!

You need to try for an info pass after midnight and the very early morning hours. keep refreshing your page every half hour if you don't get one as cancellations can pop up and you need to be there to grab them. The appointments are only for two weeks ahead.

Yay, that should your wait down, hopefully you should hear something in the next few weeks. :)

I tried at midnight and found 1 appointment this week for Tuesday.  By the time I submitted all the info it was taken.  I guess I have to speed type next time.

I also submitted an e-request and recieved this notice:

"Your application or petition is currently within the posted processing times. An inquiry may not be created at this time. Further information about recent processing times can be viewed on the uscis.gov webpage."

I wonder if this is the same response they'd give my Congressman if I request an inquiry?

I'll be calling the customer service number on Tuesday to see what information they have on my case.  Hopefully I can get a definitive answer regarding the case status.  Just want to confirm nothing was lost in the mail or in question.  Tried to do a self-check via e-verify and it said I didn't have enough information to complete the quiz?    Can't wait until Tuesday to get some answers!
