  1. Upon suggestion of a VJ member (thanks foobaz123), I have created a FAQ of the most common questions I see here on VJ concerning the NVC process. If you know of a common question that isn't mentioned here, please inform me through a reply in this thread or PM me. I'd be more than happy to include it here.

    Hi Saylin and hello everyone!

I have gone through the FAQ's and think that there may be a question you can include in this, which I also need answers to. You have discussed this briefly on the FAQ's but I just want to clarify a few things,

Since September 1, 2013, we had been required to comply to online DS261 and DS260. Even then, I still sent my DS3032 and DS230 by mail, not knowing what instructions to follow or confused what to do.

Question: When having filled out online forms DS261 and DS260 online, and still have sent the hard copies DS3032 and DS230--will it affect my visa application in any way? Will it cause delay? Having sent both, which ones will NVC honor?

It's been almost 2 weeks since I have done DS260 online, and sent DS230...up until now my case is not yet complete. Could I have done something wrong?

  2. Just curious to know who has been approved after submitting first the DS-230 and later the DS-260 after the Sep 1st change. I submitted my DS-230 on August and was checklisted in September, later submitted the DS-260 and was approved in about a week. Share your experiences and case complete if any, Thanks!

    Firesp33dR,

I submitted my DS260 online in September 26, 2013 then my husband still sent my DS230 by overnight mail in Sept 27, 2013. But something went wrong with my IV Fee payment in Sept 21, 2013

--which was finally settled (status PAID)only in October 4, 2013.

Now, it's been 10 days since IV Fee status PAID

and 19 days since I sent DS260 online, and DS230 with Civil Docs by mail

and the only email I received from NVC was:

    Dear Sir/Madam:

...We received documentation for your case. Please allow 30 business days

for us to review your documents.

Now worrying that doing DS260 online and sending DS230 by mail--since it carries the same information anyway--may have caused the delay. halloween.gif

I just wonder why the system said 3-5 business days to process and up until now,

my case is not completed yet. cray5ol.gif

Should I have complied with the DS261 and DS260 alone, without having sent DS230 by mail?

Did I do something wrong here?unsure.pngsad.png

  3. Firesp33dR

    Thank you so much

i dont really want to send original document, its says i can also send certified copy and it must be translated and notirised as well

my AOF has been sent today by my sponsor ( mother-in-law ) with all + documents which needs to be sent with AOF package.

my question is, does my husband also need to send AOF ? or AOF sent by sponsor is enough ?

    DanielandNina,

This is what I got as per instructions from NVC and this is what we did:

    5. EVIDENCE OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT. Applicants must provide evidence that they will not become public charges (that is, dependent on government welfare and assistance).

Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for visa applicants in the IR, F, certain E visa categories, and following-to-join employment (E) applicants complete with copies of the sponsor’s U.S.

(Immigrant Visa Applicants’ Interview Preparation Instructions-English/December 2012) Page 2 of 13

Federal income tax return (Form 1040) and wage statements (Form W-2s). The petitioner must provide an Affidavit of Support even if he/she does not derive any income and even if a joint sponsor’s Affidavit of Support will be providing all of the actual financial support.

    Hope it helps!

  4. Guys?

I found out that there is a fast shortcut to all these processes!!!

I should have seen this forum when my husband started to file the papers.

So for now, what I have learned will help me a little, but seeing most of your timelines,

I suggest you follow the instructions given to us by the "experts" who have experienced.

If I knew this, it would have helped me SAVE A LOT OF TIME and my case would have been finished faster!

Please really look into this guys:

    Good luck!

  5. @Darnell, my husband has taken two jobs this year with only 3 hrs in the morning, and 3 hours in the evening of sleep. Trying to save up. It will change when i get there though--I'll be there to help. So it's really mostly me who does the research and the communicating with NVC. I just update him.

Also, will definitely read on the monthly Filers. Didn't know how to go about it at first--but getting the hang of it here at VJ. :-) thanks for advice will do that!

@Apple21 thank you for those info! I find it very very helpful! Will do the Magicjack app right away! All i knew was tango and viber and skype, didn't research enough on how to make free calls! Wouldnt know that if it weren't for you! LOL that's amazing! I do appreciate you guys taking the time to help out here on VJ! Until later! Good luck to all of us!

  6. You are not yet case complete.

It will take 30 business days for NVC to review your documents so you'll have to wait.

Oh I see, not the answer I was hoping for. hehehe

So if Case was completed, they'd send me an email right away?

Or should I really call? Husband is too busy to wait on a call to NVC.

In case, i just might need to call them from my end--Baguio City, Philippines...

And Apple21, Just curious on your Timeline--you had an advanced medical exam

before your Case ever got completed?

Are we allowed to do that? Anywhere i can read further about that?

Please advice. Might help to know. Thanks!

  7. I got this email from the NVC today, after a few days having paid Visa Fee and sent DS230 and Civil documents:

    Dear Sir/Madam:

    ....

We received documentation for your case. Please allow 30 business days
for us to review your documents.

    ....

Does anybody know what it means? Does it mean case complete, or does it simply mean--wait for about 30 days for the case to be completed yet?

In most cases here, I saw that Case gets completed at the NVC within a week. How come mine's 30 days?

Could it be that it is already complete, and that I have already been placed on cue for Interview scheduling?

    Any wild ideas? Anyone? Thanks!

  8. The USCIS and NVC operates mostly from fees coming from applicants, and will keep operational until funds are available--and people are continuously paying for Visa applications and so on, so from that I think it will not shut down like other federal offices.

  9. About the Medical: It's alright. She can have someone with her. No food will be allowed though, baby milk should be no problem! As for snack or anything the baby can munch on--a no-no, so they'd better be ready how to manage the baby. ;-)

But they can bring gadgets or toys to keep baby busy.

    Re: The Interview

I was at the embassy for the interview of a friend, and I was there for the same reason.

From experience, I was not allowed to get in--except a few years later, when my friend became a US Citizen,

I accompanied her for something else, she told security I was with her and flashed her blue passport. They let me in without questions.

I think it depends on your "communication" skills, I guess. Anyway, there will always be a waiting area right outside, in case.

The security there can be considerate, if they see that there is no security risk in doing so. Why don't you give it a try?

    Good luck!

  11. Hello everyone, After POE do we haftoo do something for my wife to receive her green card and social security or will they come in the mail with out the need to call or go somewhere? We paid the ellis fee before POE any advice of info is appreciated thank you.

I was told that the Green Card and the SSN will be delivered to you. Please correct me if I am wrong.

As for the SSN, I am sure that the DS230 Part II will take care of that--for as long as you ticked on YES

and given consent to the Department of State to divulge information about your wife for this purpose.

Refer to DS230 or online DS260 Question #43a and b OR the screenshot below.

Also refer to this website. It says it all: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/ssnvisa/

If you applied for SSN through your Visa and Alien Registration Application, then all you need to do is wait within 3-4 weeks for your SSN to be delivered to you. Otherwise, you will have to go to the nearest Social Security Office to apply.

    Good luck!

  12. Dear VJers,

My Visa Application fee status REJECTED 2 days after it showed PAID. Turned out my husband made a typo on the account number he input in the payment portal.

The problem now is that we have already sent out my DS230 with all my Civil Documents, the Cover sheet with the barcode, and the payment receipt to NVC by the time it showed REJECTED!

To make the story short, after 2 more failed attempts due to system errors and system updates, my husband decided to make the payment through the alternative route--by money order through overnight postal service. After 2 days the system reflected a PAID status. FINALLY!

Now my concern is, a week has past since I have sent my DS230 and civil documents before my Visa payment got through because of all those paid-rejected-paid-rejected-paid status. I read somewhere that the Visa fee should have been paid before sending the papers...which was definitely not the case with mine.

    1) Does NVC ever throw papers away if they receive DS230's without the Visa application fee paid yet?

    2) Do I need to send my DS230 and Civil Documents all over again?

Its been 5 business days (technically one week) since we have paid my Visa Fee and 2 weeks since we have sent my DS230 and docs. We have not heard from NVC yet. I have sent an email a few days ago to make a follow up but unfortunately have not received any response yet. A bit restless and uneasy. Please advice! Thank you very much.

  13. Good day pjv and to all VJ members out there. The same situation happened to me with the payment portal, except it was the Visa Application fee that was rejected 2 days after it showed paid. Turned out it was my husband's mistake, a typo on his account number he input in the payment portal.

The problem now is that we have sent out my DS230 with all my Civil Documents, the Cover sheet with the barcode, and the payment receipt!

I sent an email to NVC and they advised me to attempt to make the payment again. So I did, however, the system did not accept it because there was "an active payment" on that bill!--turned out to be a system error which was cleared after another exchange of emails with the NVC.

To make the story short, my husband decided to make the payment through the alternative route--by money order through overnight postal service to St Louis, MO. After 2 days the system reflected a PAID status.

Now my concern is, a week has past since I have sent my DS230 and civil documents before my Visa payment got through because of all those paid-rejected-paid-rejected-paid status. I read somewhere that the Visa fee should have been paid before sending the papers...
