you need an appointment to apply for passport? we just walked in and filled out the application, except we had to go back home since we forgot we needed baby's birth cert.
It depends on the post office, I guess. I decided to go with the one close to work because I wanted to apply over lunch during a workday. This one makes appointments.
You needed your baby's birth certificate for your passport application or where you applying for hers at the same time?
we applied for hers too, since she doesnt have a passport yet. we went on thursday during hubby's lunch break. of course this time i left my ID at home so had to go back to get it. otherwise it took like 15 min. (i filled out the application on-line and printed it out)

Congratulations again!!!
I hope they won't be this late at the immigration office, my kids won't handle that!
P.S. we gonna have a little celebration on monday, i gonna make a cake. Would you guys come over? i believe you live quite close to us.

I'll update SS first, otherwise you have to wait for your certificate to be mailed back to you. And what if they lose it...
-
finally, got my letter today! yay! oat ceremony is March 16
-
If Billy has nothing else to do that day, sure otherwise i wouldnt go out of my way, really. besides they dont mention anything about spouse being there. you can always call your husband in case he is needed.
I am sure you gonna be fine!!!!
Hey Cristina, how about a party to celebrate?

Thank you guys!
It took much less time. than i expected/planned for! my appointment was at 9 am and i was out before 10am. They give you a ticket downstairs at a check in, then you have to wait in the upstairs waiting room for your number to be called (they actually dont let you get into that room till 30 min before your interview time). well, i just had enough time to look around and go over the test questions.
my interviewer was asian middle-aged man with a heavy accent and very quiet voice, so he was a bit hard to understand. But he was very nice! he went over my application asking about my address/phone/ date of our wedding/ and all those yes/no questions., made me sign the application and write my name on the pictures. then he printed out the questions he was gonna ask me.
i had to read a sentence, something like "she is happy with her house" and write "they are going to the grocery store". then he asked
What is Constitution?
How many stars are there on the flag? (to what i veeeery confidently answered 13! (on my gosh! too much studying makes your brain go dead!) he smiled and said "come on, I know you know it!")
Who is going to be a president if president and vice president can no longer serve?
why did pilgrims come to america?
name one amendment that talks about voting rights (this one wasnt on the new test! he actually didnt even ask me which test i wanted. good i looked over the old one too!)
uummm....i dont think there were any more questions or i just forgot
then he printed out a paper saying that i was recommended for naturalization and told me to wait for my oath letter in the mail.
the door in his office was open and i could hear some girl answering her questions. the IO sounded pretty strict, i heard him ask her where her husband was and if he was waiting for her. actually i really hoped he wouldnt be interviewing me when i saw him calling people, he had a really mean face lol
Cristina, i dont know how often they have oath ceremonies, so there is a chance we might have it together!
oh and he never asked for any additional/ original documents or my passport (maybe because i only took 1 2week trip since i came here)

Had my interview this morning and was approved! yay!!! have to wait for a couple weeks for my interview letter though, boo...
-
you cant get a passport till after your oath ceremony, that's when you are going to receive your naturalization certificate and officially become a US citizen. so between interview and oath you dont need a visa. it depends on your local office, not every office offers same day oath. some, you even have to wait a month or longer.

well, i understand how it is with 2 kids But at least, give them a call, press different options, till they transfer you to immigration officer, not customer service rep. another thing you can do from home is contact your Senator's office.

yellow paper doesn't give you interview date and time, just a list of documents.
I got my interview letter in the mail today. Yooohooo! it's for Jan. 14, 2009 at 9 am
Congrats! It's interesting that we both got our interview appointments yesterday. Mine is on the 26th at 8 a.m.!
Congrats to you too! They probably send out a bunch of letters at the same time. which test are you studying for?
personally i think the new one is easier. i wonder if they let you choose

hello mybunny'shoney,
Are you at Raleigh-Durham office? If so, (sigh), I wonder what happened to my papers. I submitted N400 in July, got fingerprinted at Raleigh-Durham office on Sept 12, and I still havent heard from USCIS for my interview
Yes, i am at Raleigh-Durham office. If I were you I would make an infopass to find out what's going on. They might already sent you your letter, and it might of gotten lost in the mail, things happen.

What is the difference between the yellow paper and the Interview Notice if they both state what documentations to bring during interview?

Hi Guys!
Well I am almost there. I had my interview yesterday. I waited for about 2 hours before I got called (not sure why they give you a time appointment). I went in and told the man I had brought all the extra documents they had requested and I pilled them out. He told me to just put them away as I was making his work space messy! It was pretty intimidating. He asked a bunch of question...did I personally know any terrorists, did I engage in prostitution, did I traffic drugs and so on.
I passed the first 8 question so he stopped there. He asked me how long the president served, what was the state capitol, when was independence day, ....gosh my mind is blank I cannot remember the rest.
Anyway my oath ceremony is next Thursday November 20th....I am so relieved this is almost over.
Good luck to the rest of you.
Paula
Congratulations!
I am going through the same office, so i have a question. Did you get to choose which test you wanted to take?
-
I didn't receive any yellow paper, just the normal letter you get from then, like the notice date saying come for a the first part of the n400 application.
Your probably sent them everything they wanted and are not looking for anything additional on your file.
uuumm...so did I , everything on the list was in my envelope. sending original birth cert. of the kids wasnt a requirement, it said COPIES. so you never know
-
i guess it's a paper most people receive a couple weeks before interview letter, saying which original documents to bring to the interview. I believe the list is pretty standart, driver's licence or state ID, tax returns or income statements, and birth cert. of kids born in US.
-
got my "yellow paper" in the mail today! Hopefully the interview letter is going to show up sometime soon too! now off to start studying
-
I hear ya! i gonna give them a call tomorrow, since i had my tooth pooled out today and they probably wont understand what i am saying if they dont tell me anything interesting gonna go for infopass too.
-
with more interview letters coming in i am starting to get concerned.. where the heck is mine??? i just hope it's not lost 'cause i havent started the studying yet...
-
Congrats on interview dates!
eau_xplain, i hope i gonna get my letter soon too!
-
hhmmm..wonder why they ask, because i only sent copies too, just like instructions said. well, hopefully your interview date is coming soon!
-
hhmmm.. what does your lawyer say about it? i am not really sure how to help you, but if i were you i would of scheduled an infopass to figure things out.
good luck!
-
congrats!
i dont think you'll be able to vote though i believe the deadline to register to vote is oct. 10, and you are not officially a usc till after your oath.

That is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful news Paula!! There is hope for us after all.
yeah good news, but Durham and Charlotte have different timelines though. As i understand, Durham is not as busy yet.
had my bio app. yesterday at Durham. nice office most people seem to have a hard time finding it though. It's right behind a pub!
It looked like the stuff isn't too experienced yet, the fingetprinting lady was torturing my little fingers for awhile till she could get some good prints. i was also surprised they only had 2 fingerprinting spots, and people just kept coming in. i was lucky to be the first one, so got out in 25 minutes.

I received my daughter's and my passports today in the mail. Tomorrow would of been 3 weeks since we applied, regular processing. Was surprised it was so fast.
