  1. Appreciate your response :)

Just to be clear here. Your travel ticket must match the name in the government issued ID used for travel. For domestic travel that can be your DL, GC, or passport, but for international travel it must be the same as the name in the passport you use. If the passport is in your maiden name, it is recommended that you carry a copy of your Marriage Certificate to help the airline employees understand that you are the same person. To avoid this you can change your passport, but that is up to you.

I should point out that you will have more problems with airline employees than you will with CBP when traveling internationally.

  2. Thanks for response.

FYI to others - I had success with my walk in. I took my flight details as proof of a previously booked holiday and they were fine with it.

Hi, I did walk in biometrics without any problem in Manhattan.

My appointment date is May 15th but I just went there on April 30. They didn't even ask any one word about my walk-in.

But it was a pouring rainy day and the office was empty. As you already know bring the letter with your photo-ID! That's all.

    Good luck to you!

  3. Hi All,

Has anyone had any luck with a walk in for the biometrics appointment? I received notification that my appointment is right in the middle of the inter-state holiday I've booked to go to my in-laws to meet the extended family and friends!!

I'm interested particularly in the Varrick St office (I've seen some posts on this forum but they are quite dated).

And I've called USCIS to find out - they don't give advice and just tell you to read the instructions on the letter :)

    Thanks,
    Kate

  4. Thank you so much, appreciate your response :)

A.) Most of the time, the passport is sufficient but to be safe, just bring your marriage certificate on your biometric appointment. Some ASCs are strict about looking for the name change proof, but some aren't.

B.) You don't necessarily have to apply for a new passport in your married name. You can still use the old passport in your maiden name, as long as it's valid. Again, just bring your marriage certificate as well in case the immigration officer asks for it.

  5. Hi all,

I recently got married on the K1 visa and have a new surname. I applied for my green card, advance parole and employment authorisation with my new (married) name.

    A few questions:

    (a) when I have my ASC (biometrics) appointment how do I prove my identity - is my passport (with maiden name) and marriage certificate (to show name change) sufficient?

    (b) assuming authorisation to travel is granted, I expect it to be in my married name. Do I need a new passport reflecting my married name so the names on the passport and advance parole are consistent?

    Thanks so much!

  6. The feeling of relief was surreal - I started to well up with tears as soon as I got that piece of paper :) And I was nervous too!! I also had nothing to be nervous about, but it's just all very exciting and I guess the 7 month build up doesn't help!!

And I bet that schnitzel tasted good :D

Now just the wait for the physical visa.. I've already booked my flight so hoping the visa comes within the next week!!!

  7. Hi All,

Just starting the K1 visa journey; filed the I-129f package yesterday (via an immigration lawyer).

I really appreciate the posts others have written, especially around timeframes encountered for each step along the way. I'll work out how to add mine to the footer and contribute any stories that may help others.

I've already found myself celebrating the success stories where others have had their visas granted! After a long wait it must be so exciting!!

    Good luck to everyone else,

    Kate (Australia) and Dan (USA)
