  1. I recently submitted documentation for my step kids.  So far we have used: children's birth certificate (legalizada) we had them translated, my husband's birth certificate (legalizada), my birth certifcate (US birth certificate), We had to provide documentation proving our marriage (again), kids need a dominican passport, and the affidavit of support form.

  3. email the consulate and ask if they have an interview date. We found out about our interview about two months before the interview date. I called the 1 800 number but if I could do it again I would have just emailed the consulate. I checked the website for fun :) even though I already knew when our interview was. It didn't post to that website until about 6 weeks before the interview. We didn't receive anything in the mail about the interview until about five weeks (in the US) and four weeks before interview in the dominican republic. Email the consulate about a month after they receive your paperwork (looks like exactly a month has gone by). Start emailing them now and ask them if they have an interview scheduled. They were very nice and very helpful!

  6. After NVC gives you your case number you can follow your case at the following website:

    https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/

It will show you the last time your case was updated. I liked to see when our case was updated because then I knew things were moving forward.

I found that emailing the santo domingo embassy for interview information, questions, and concerns was most helpful. They often answered within a few days of a week at the most. If they didn't answer within four days I would resend the original message and received an answer shortly after. Here is the email address: santodomingovisas@state.gov

I orignally called the 1-877-804-5402 and paid the $8.00 to find out our interview date. I called exactly two weeks after receiving our case number and all they could tell me was that our case was on it's way to santo domingo. I called two weeks after that (which was a month after receiving our case number) and they were able to tell me our interview date. I also asked when my case was sent to santo domingo and asked for the date it was received in santo domingo. If I were to do it different I would just email the embassy because they were able to verify the same information.

I then constantly checked this website for scheduled appointments: Scheduled Appointment List Even though our appointment was scheduled it didn't show up on this website until about 5-6 weeks before the interview date.

I received packet 4 here in the US about 5 weeks before our interview and my fiance received it in the Dominican Republic almost exactly 1 month before the interview. We were a little panicked because many people say they never receive packet four. I had been emailing the embassy and they will email you packet four as long as you don't receive it one month before your interview date. They won't send it any earlier. For example, our interview was on May 21 and they soonest they would send it is April 21. Therefore, I made sure I was emailing them a week before April 21 letting them know I hadn't received it because I had learned that sometimes it takes them ONE week to respond ( I wanted to make sure we had time to do everything).

The only thing you can do is start getting organized now and get as much done because there is A LOT to do:

What I learned from our experience:

First: Get your birth certificate extensiva (LEGALIZADA) for your dominican fiance and their children if they have any. You get them LEGALIZADA in La Romana and I believe you can do it in Santo Domingo. We got two of everything. One for our case because the embassy will keep it and one to bring to the USA for work, permanant residence, citizensip basically JUST IN CASE WE NEED IT HERE- start this now because the lines can be long. If it is your first passport and you get it VIP it will take three days. Your passport will not be ready the same day if it is your first passport. We went on a Monday (afternoon), and returned Wednesday morning for it. If you do not pay VIP fee it takes about a week in a half to be ready.

Second: Get passport photos and make sure they are 2x2 ( we had to go like three times because they kept printing them the wrong size) Make sure you tell them 2x2 and get like 8 of them

Third: Get your Dominican Passport. You will need it for your medical exam and to pay Banco Popular Fees.

Fourth: Pay Banco Popular fees and DO NOT LOSE THE RECEIPTS ( YOU NEED TWO OF THEM)

FOURTH: Organize your evidence of relationship, emails, phone bills, text, boarding passes, pictures of video messaging, etc.

Fifth: Review some interview questions or questions people post on their interview experience. It was helpful just to have a general idea. One thing they asked us at the beginning and end of the interview was how many times I had visited my fiance. I said eight at the beginning of the interview and the officer asked me at the end of the interview: So you visited him six times? and I said, "No officer. Eight times and repeated the exact same thing I had said at the beginning. He asked for photos and we submitted eight photo collages with 12-15 photos of each visit. This was easy and organized so we didn't have to carry so many pictures. He appreciated it.

Sixth: Get your police certificate- The soonest you can do this is one month before your interview (this was ready same day but took like five hours-you don't have to sit there and wait).

Seventh: The soonest you can do your medical exam is one month before the interview. We did it 28 days before our interview. It takes time so just get as much done before the interview so you will be less stressed the day of the interview

I hope this helps. Use the link above and ask as many questions to people on this website. This website helped SOOOOOOOO much!

  7. Thanks for the info. We pay two hundred dollars a month and never miss a payment so he is not backed up in child support at all. We will continue to pay while out of the country. Just trying to avoid being handcuffed now lol

  8. Congrats!!! So between issued and documents in hand it was just 2 days?? Did you pick it up or did they deliver it to you?

Have you recieved your documents back yet? if so, can you tell us how it went?

Yes! They delivered the documents to our home!

  9. Hi my husband visa was approved on May 22 in Santo Domingo. As of today he have not received his passport. I check the status on line CEAC and is keep going from Ready to PA, back to Ready and PA now is been few days on Ready againg. Little worry about this situation, Does anybody have the same problem? Thank you

Our appointment was May 20 and our status was on ap until June 10 th when it was finally changed to issued. Our visa was delivered today!!! I was worried too :)

  10. Just received an email from the consulate this morning. They confirmed receiving our documents and said the visa would be sent through domex :) ceac status hasn't changed so the waiting continues but at least we know they are moving forward :)

  11. Are you picking it up from Santo Domingo Domex??? Let us know what that process looks like as far as calling to confirm and how they notify you to pick it up :)

Today the status changed to issued but no luck with domex hopefully tomorrow will be able to pick up my wifes passport

  12. Man that sucks.

It does! However, based on carolita's post in regards to the CR1 visa and going from approved to AP it seems like normal activity at least for now. Based on other's post it seems like it goes from from Approved to AP then to Approved and Issued. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. We definitely need to post what happens so others that will end up in our situations knows what to expects. Based on my conversation with the person at DOMEX it seems like the consulate is just backed up right now. She said it could take up to a maximum of 6 weeks. We filed December 12, 2013 and it has gone so quick and smoothly up to this point. The waiting definitely drives you nuts. Especially at this point because we are SOOOOOO close!!! However, I am sure it will all work out.

  13. Was just contacted by supervisor at DOMEX. She informed me that there is a back up in paperwork needing to be processed at the consulate. She said the document is there and not lost, however it hasn't been opened and inputed into the computer system or our file. She said the maximum amount of time it takes to process AP paperwork is six weeks. I don't know if this back up in paperwork waiting to be process is affects mailing out visas that are moving from being approved to issued. This is probably why you haven't received your visa yet. Best wishes.

  14. The average time of AP before you got your visa?

We haven't received our visa yet. The consular officer said we were technically approved and that we would be officially approved once we submitted my step children's birth certificates. He said then it would be officially approved and that we would be issued our visa. He said the length of time to finalize everything and send visa was dependent on their work load. We were told to send the documents through DOMEX.

This is the problem that I was sharing just as an FYI. DOMEX is telling me that they sent it to the consulate and that the consulate received it. The consulate is telling me that they never received it. DOMEX told my fiance that they were investigating where documents were for a few other couples because over last week they were contacted by a few couples looking for their visas and documents. We called 809-616-6633 to speak with a supervisor to find out where our package is. I also emailed the consulate again. Just was sharing in case you don't receive your passport by the end of the week as you hoped since you had your interview at the same time as we did. Hopefully, your visa is not affected as our documents are.

  15. Don't want to worry you but just wanted to share my current situation as an FYI. We are waiting for our case to be finalized. We mailed the birth certificates of my step children as the final step. DOMEX is telling us the consulate received the documents since the 26th of May and the Consulate just emailed us that they haven't received any documents. I emailed the consulate again and am waiting for their response. The DOMEX receptionist in La Romana told my fiance that she had received calls from two other couples having the same experience. She called the Santo Domingo office and gave my fiance the phone number to the guy in charge over there. He is investigating and trying to locate the documents. I know your case is a CR1 and you are waiting for your passport to be sent to you. I'm reading that most people are receiving there passports between 12-16 days so just in case it takes longer you are aware of what others are experiencing. Our interview was on the 20 of May.

Does anyone know anything else I can do to confirm or find out where our birth certificates and passport are????
