Sorry this might be way too late. But I am very happy for you. Congratulations!

Just wondering, were you interviewed for the lifting of conditions as well as your Citizenship? Or were you just interviewed for citizenship alone? Did the officer mention anything about your (then) pending I-75?

    Thanks :)

    Hey there,

Never too late, lol! And thank you kindly. :)

My husband was not interviewed for removing conditions as we received the interview for his citizenship and completed the oath ceremony before without ever receiving an interview date for lifting conditions. The interviewer for naturalization did not comment on it at all. Citizenship is end game, my friend! When you cross the finish line you're done! Good luck on your journey! :)

Of course it's necessary. It's something he needs to consider. I didn't say it's impossible and if you chose to live like that, good for you. But many people just starting out the process are blissfully unaware of how expensive it is and how long the immigrant cannot work if they come here on a K-1. Too many people just look for the quickest way. And the quickest way isn't always the best way. You couldn't pay me enough to do things like that but if that's the choice others make, well - live and let live. That doesn't mean I can't give food for thought as someone who did things differently. It's about choices. Immigration is a long-term decision that requires long-term thinking and planning. You have to think with your head, not just your heart. We owe it to everyone to give both sides of the story so that they can make their choice.

Saying it's not the best start to married life isnt food for thought. So I will agree to disagree that your last comment was a necessary comment. Your previous advice before that comment was very helpful and relevant however.

Not the best start to married life but if that’s all you can afford...

    This comment is unnecessary.

After bringing my husband over here we moved in with my father temporarily until we were able to get on our feet. Shortly after our marriage we got a nice unexpected surprise that I was pregnant! It was a little rough for awhile until my husband was able to start working but here we are 4+ years later in our own place and thriving with our beautiful little girl.

My point is...it's not our place to judge how people start their journeys, rather it is our place to help guide them on their journey.

Good luck to the OP! You found the very best community possible to help you figure this process out!

Congratulations! I wish you all the best on your upcoming interview. Please do update as soon as you get naturalized, which I'm pretty sure you'll get on the date of your interview. We both share almost the same situation. I have my pending application on removing conditions of my greencard (from K1-visa). I filed the removal of conditions last May, 2017 and still waiting for feedback. I qualified for the citizenship last June but I only filed online N400 application last month, July 2018. Completed my biometrics on July 29, 2018 at Tampa USCIS office. Now my online status for N400 application is estimated to be completed in 9 months (May 2019). But my pending greencard removal of conditions status is still the same since February this year, that my application was received at my local office. I was never invited for interview in any of my greencard applications. I just can't help but be anxious as things are all up in the air for me. I don't know if I need more requirements to suffice my application for the pending removal of conditions and why I am not receiving any letter to indicate anything I need to comply to. I do pray mine will be as smooth as how things are going for you now.

Thank you so much and congrats to you as well! I sure do hope things go very smooth for your family.

My husband became a US citizen this morning! We're still walking on air. I could NOT have breezed through this process as easily if it were not for VisaJourney which includes the creators, moderators, admins, and the members of this site. I will forever be grateful for VisaJourney and will forever sing its praises!

Good luck to everyone on this amazing, incredible journey. <3

  5. Got a nice big surprise in the mail yesterday..our letter arrived with an interview date of 8/21/2018! Pretty crazy considering they quoted us a date in January 2019! Can't believe how close we are to the end. We couldn't have done any of this on our own without VisaJourney; this website including the creators, administrators, and members will ALWAYS have our heartfelt gratitude.

Of inconsequential news, there has been no word/update on our lifting conditions application.

Hope everyone is having a great day and gets their good news soon!!

  6. I can't answer all your questions but I can tell you what our experience was like.

My husband (UK citizen) is a Type 1 diabetic. It was extremely stressful trying to figure out how to get him health insurance asap after arriving stateside. We looked at the short-term plans but they were quite expensive as the quotes we looked at through the ACA. After our wedding, I was able to sign him up for the ACA under special enrollment (through marriage), and we were required to provide proof of his legality through our NOA of the AOS. The health plan we got him on was fantastic as it covered a lot of his diabetic supplies and prescriptions, although our monthly premium made things rough for us in the beginning when we were superbroke. The interesting part is, after my husband got a job, even the least expensive health insurance plan offered through his employer was still more expensive than the ACA plan he was on. Fast forward four years and he is still insured through the ACA because the plan is more affordable for us.

If my husband was not diabetic, we certainly would not have pushed so quickly to get him insured, as the penalty per year is nothing compared to the monthly premiums (even for our relatively modest plan). I have a friend who pays the penalty because she doesn't quality for the ACA and can't afford her employer-based health plans. Also, just so you know, if you do forego health insurance in favor of paying the penalty, the penalty will be marked for every month you go without health insurance which gets reported when you and your spouse file your yearly taxes.

In my humble opinion, the short-term plans are quite expensive for what they are, but only you can figure out through quotes which option is best for you. Luckily you are able to receive quotes here free of cost to help you determine your best course of action, be it a short-term plan, the ACA, or paying the penalty. And keep in mind that your future employer-based insurance plans may be more expensive than the ACA plans. Just get quotes before making any decisions.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials and starting your new life! <3

    Hi everyone,

I was part of Visa journey 4 years ago when I was waiting for my green card. Now I am trying to apply for the citizenship. The good news is that I found out that now you can go and apply online.

I just had a question. I filled out the form and submitted the countries I have traveled to in the past 5 years. My husband and I are world travelers and there were more than a few countries listed. We are planning to go abroad again in July. I already filled out the form but haven't submitted. Should I put the future dates I am planning to go away or should I just keep the current info on the app? I am worried that they will tell me I failed to provide info by not writing that i will be traveling to Europe in July

    Hey Claudia,

Were you able to upload your documents for the N400 online or is USCIS still having us mail them?

I got excited when I read we can now use a credit card to pay the fee. It's about time they got on board with these changes! :)

  8. Update:

The one that you need to use is the application number that has CRI-89 on your biometrics appointment letter.

Just wanted to thank you for this very helpful piece of information. My husband and I were trying to look up an update using the Receipt Number on the NOA and scratching our heads at what we were doing wrong until a lightbulb appeared over my head, I whipped on a cape, pointed in the air, and said "To visajourney!!"

In all seriousness, I do not know what we would do without visajourney and it's incredible community. <3

  9. I've been following this whole mess and here is the problem that I have: Nich-Nick violated the TOS. Whether or not we agree with it we get it. But there was no warning. Her comment was deleted, fine, but an immediate suspension? Aren't we lucky this isn't how the real world operates!

It is a total failure on the mods' part to lose a member like Nich-Nick. I've seen 10x the amount of constructive contributions from her than from any of the mods. You guys seriously ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

  10. Suggestion: Consider using KLM or AirFrance to Orlando and book the pet as excess luggage so she/he will travel with you on the same flight. These airlines have better pet service and your dog will be better treated despite the connection in Amsterdam or Paris.

Thank you for the reply. We have decided to use Virgin Atlantic as we can use the "DIY route" since they do not require a pet transport agency. We found direct flights from London to Orlando. I still find the fees to be ludicrous for flying animals. Going to cost us more to fly the pup than to fly my fiance here. =p

  11. Geeez pet export agencies are so freaking expensive. I was quoted a range from 700 pounds( sorry don't have pounds sign on US keyboard) to 2000 for a 5lb kitty!.

I went with Virgin Atlantic in the end who didn't require an agency and paid 300. Though it was a bit of a pain in the ####### with dropping her off and picking her up etc. (which usually the agency would take care of). Im not sure what to suggest as Tampa is a tricky one, don't think virgin fly there either

Yea I found that a lot of airlines I contacted wont fly pugs, Persian cats etc. any type of breed with a "snub nose", im not sure you will be able to overcome this problem as it affects their ability to breathe and airlines don't like that

Thanks for the reply. =) Yeah we decided to go with VA and not use a pet transport agency. But it's still going to cost us more to fly the pup than to fly my fiance over here!

  12. Had my interview this morning and was approved. Will do a review when i get home.if anyone is worried about there up coming interview dont be.

Do you feel like you're walking on air? =)

  13. It's good to hear you have heard positive things also.

It's very frustrating as I have had my visa since January but I'm just waiting to exchange contracts on my house so I'm hoping end of next month.

How about you? Do you have a date?

    I understand your frustration.

We are looking at the end of April to fly him over here. Our wedding is May 18th. Can't get him here any sooner due to school and other loose ends that need tying up.

It's very strange that the wedding invitations are going out next week and we don't have our interview until the week after. Just trying to stay positive about everything though it's stressful as all get out!

One nice thing I found about booking the ticket for my fiance's dog is that Virgin doesn't charge for the animal's ticket until the day you fly out. Since the cost of his dog's ticket is more than his ticket (absolutely ridiculous by the way) it's nice to be able to split up the charges. Unless of course you're booking really close to the actual day of travel. =)

Keep me updated, as you'll be going through it first!!
