  1. Saint Luke's gave us a copy of the transcribed immunization record for our son that included a small piece of paper that described the results of his TB test reading. We used that to enroll our son in school. Did they not give you that?

    Probably depends on how well versed the DMV employee is in department policy. Actually I think it was the NOA letter which granted an extension of permanent resident status that we brought in, not the approval letter. The letter said the extension was for one year while they were processing the ROC petition. I do remember that the DMV employee didn't know how to handle it so she asked her manager, and he said to give my wife the standard 5 year expiration.

  3. Compare the round trip ticket price to the price of a one-way ticket for the international flight. I was able to save a significant amount of money when my step-son immigrated to USA by booking a round trip ticket instead of a one-way ticket. We just didn't use the return ticket. It's a common practice of airlines to overprice one-way tickets.

    Are they no longer sending them registered mail? I ordered a birth certificate from the e-Census website back in 2013 and they sent it registered mail so I had to sign for it. It got to my house in California in about 2 weeks.

  5. You shouldn't need the affidavit since you are already married. I'm assuming it was a civil wedding in the United States. Just bring your marriage certificate to the church and tell them that you want to do a Catholic wedding. That should be sufficient. As the previous poster said, you should do a report of marriage at the Philippine consulate or embassy that is responsible for your area in the US and you could bring that.

  6. I believe the limited term for CA DLs is before removal of conditions. My wife had a expiration on her CA DL that matched the expiration of the CR-1 green card before we did the removal of conditions. After we got the approval letter for removal of conditions, we brought it to the DMV and they issued a new DL with the normal 5 year expiration starting from the date the original limited validity DL was issued.

  8. I don't know how it is in your state, but here in California community colleges, you must be living in the state for 1 year and 1 day before you get local resident tuition. Otherwise, you end up paying the international student rate which costs much much more. I have a friend that immigrated on a K1 visa and had to pay the international student rate for her first year because she enrolled shortly after she arrived.

    The standard in the Philippines is mother's maiden name is the child's middle name. In the US, it doesn't matter. My parents didn't use my mother's maiden name for my middle name on my California birth cert. However, when my dad went to register my birth at the Philippine Consulate, the staff said my middle name must be my mother's maiden name. So my middle name here in the US was moved to my first name so it's I have 2 first names on the Philippines report of birth. My middle name listed on my report of birth is then my mother's maiden name.

     

    We registered the birth of my first born and we plan on registering the birth of my newborn. Since we plan on buying properties in the Philippines that our children would inherit, it just makes sense. Also, we sometimes spend several months at a time in the Philippines. Having dual citizenship means we don't have to deal with visa extensions there. Another reason you may want to get a Philippine passport is that Filipinos have visa free access to some countries US citizens don't have (for example Brazil).

  10. My wife immigrated to the US in 2015 on a CR1 visa. She didn't have vaccination records and was pregnant at the time she had her medical exam so she was not immunized. She was granted a waiver as annotated in her visa: 212(g)(2)(B). Does she need to visit a civil surgeon to get her immunizations before we file the I-751? Or do we wait until after we file the I-751 to see if the USCIS requests it?

  11. Just a recommendation. Have you tried calling back to the Consulate there in LA and try and get clarification so your not chasing the cat up the wrong tree? It seems to me, don't get me wrong I am not trying to be a jerk, but wouldn't it have been wiser to get clarification WHILE at the Consulate as to their requirements that you are missing?

    I'd have to go with what Hank said. That possibly the certified original would suffice their requirements.

    This whole process can be stressful because you feeling like your shooting at a moving target. My experience is, get all the documents that is on their list. Check each one off and have your partner double check everything with you.

    Good luck. Outreach programs are a good way of getting important paperwork completed. You'll do fine. I would just call the Consulate and verify what they are saying when they are referring to "vital statistics". That statement had me really baffled when I first read your post.

    Good luck with calling the Philippine Consulate General Los Angeles. They don't answer their phones and they don't respond to emails. I've tried before in the past with no luck. Check out their Yelp for the numerous complaints. However, PCG San Francisco did answer my emails and I was able to get answers to general questions before going to Los Angeles.

  12. For the US passport you only need a US birth certificate. For the Philippines passport you need a Philippines birth certificate or ROB.

    I'd say the Philippines passport is optional as long as your child has never had one. Before I got my Philippines passport I traveled to the Philippines as just a US citizen because that's all they knew me as. Once you start using a Philippines passport for your child, the child must always use the Philippines passport to enter the Philippines. You show the immigration officer in the Philippines both the US and Philippines passport and they stamp both.

    I think you should be able to do the civil registry and passport applications in the same day. I was able to do that with my own ROB and passport. Just try to get there right when the office opens so you have plenty of time.

    You can do the ROM & ROB by mail if you want, but you need to be there in person to apply for a passport. My parents did my ROB for me 2 years ago. I was able to apply for my passport the same day, however be prepared for a long wait at the consulate. I think we were there for about half a day for my ROB and passport application. They can mail you the passport after a couple months.

    It looks like you just missed the deadline for the consular outreach in Phoenix, AZ. PCG LA usually has consular outreaches in different states throughout the year so that might be another option if you don't want to go to Los Angeles.

  14. My wife didn't get any vaccinations at SLEC because she's pregnant. The doctor just said she'll have to get it in the US after the baby's born. Not a big deal. They are usually covered under insurance as preventative healthcare anyway.
