  1. That's what I would do. Have someone check your mail while you're away, if you trust them enough allow them to open and relay the message. Most hotels have internet and you can complete some of your process together. The DS form is rather lengthly (Have a coffee with you and try not to laugh at some of the quesstions) Many questions! It took me a little bit of time to finish filling it out. If you might have to fill the DS form while you're away, tell your fiance to upload a passport picture and save it on a memory stick or send it to their email. DS form will ask you to upload the passport picture before that process is compeleted!

  2. In Aug, I lied to my employeer and asked for "student status" and told them I was going to school. At this time, I packed as much clothes as I could fit into my suit case and left to be with my fiance. I told customs I was visiting, no issues. Got pregnant in September, and ended up back in canada for my fiance to meet my family american thanksgiving. I crossed back over to the US three days later and returned back in March. I had to go to the doctors appointment that's required for the interview, and then come back to PA for my obgyn appointment. At this time, I was pulled in for questioning; thankfully my fiance was there to help answer the questions, I get far too nervous. Their main concern was if I was just doing everything legally because, it looked like I was living in the US illegally.

After that, I had my interview in montreal March 27th, a day before my birthday. I surrened my passport, and I was approved under one condition, I needed one more person to fianacially support me which meant, I wouldn't be going back home with my fiance, I'd be stuck in Canada for 3-4weeks. I've been here for 6 weeks I believe and I'm ready to go. My fiance was able to come back here for Easter. And that was the last I seen him. My passport was issued May 1st, I've recieved my email from loomis so, a few more days and I can go back home!

My fiance and I text all day, he gets home from work at 11, we'll chat on the phone until bed time. Send pictures through email. We didn't really get into skype, which I'm sure would've been a lot cheaper then a long distance bill but, that's okay. I'm just glad I can go back soon!

  3. My passport was surreneded at the time of my interview but, they required one more document to process it. My fiance's Dad had to fill a support document for me and it required his birth certificate as well. He couldn't find his so, I think he went down to the court house and he got a copy of it in a few hours. If you know which city you're born in, I'm sure if you do some calling around, you can get it in a few hours.

Even myself, I lost mine, it would take 6+ weeks to get my hands on it after fiing for a new one. I ended up reterving a photo copy of it from my last employeer (which was unacceptable for the consulate but, I played stupid and told them I don't travel with my orginal document, and it didn't say 'orginal' document).

  4. My interview was a few weeks ago. I was approved but, given certian circumstances, I needed to mail the consulate additional information.

Now, with that being said, on the form that I need to mail in, it's asking me for an alien registration number. I've called, emailed, etc and no one can give me a straight answer. I've seen on visa journey that the alien number was given on the NOA but, then some other research said with the NOA having an experiation date that, it wouldn't be vaild.

Should I use that A#? Or would my best bet be to leave it blank?

The longer I hold on to these forms, the longer I wait for my passport to be mailed back. And we're kind of in a hurry since, I am pregnant and due in a few weeks. Any help would be appreciative! Thank you!

  5. Your I-129F was processing at TSC like mine. TSC is pretty quick sent the case to NVC. I've got mine a week after my fiance (the petitioner) received I-797 by mail. I guess, you probably need start call NVC and DoS to get your case number. With the case number. you can check your visa application on CEAC. Please, if you have a time you can read this post.

I absolutely have no idea about start having marriage licence in advance before K-1 visa gets approved. Maybe some other VJers can shed some light for you.

    Thank you!

I'll give that a check. Basically now, once I get all that, interviews begin, medical/police checks, all the fun stuff now and hefty fees!

It's unfortunate when you find true love you have to go through all this only because people decided it would be fun to scam the govt.

The best part of all this is, I just found out I'm pregnant. I would love for this process to quickly speed up so we can be together before the baby comes!

  6. he put montreal. That's an 8-12 drive! Hopefully the department will pick a closer one.

So with this letter, we are just waiting for interview dates i'm assuming?

I've just checked my I-129F approval letter (I-797). It is not the date of married. But, you have to marry your petitioner in 90 days after arrival in US. All information on I-797 is about what you have to do after you come to US. VJ community is such a big help. Good luck.

Well I am currently in the US for a visit, can we technically get started on our marriage licences now?

  7. Today we received noticed of action. Basically the I129F was approved and forwarded to the listed consulate (which, it doesn't list so, we have no idea where it went).

The letter then goes on, "The petitioner can also file form I 824, application for action on an approved application or petition to request that we notify another consulate of the petition approval for visa processing purpose. THIS FORM IS NOT A VISA AND MAY NOT BE USED IN PLACE OF A VISA"

It also gave us a date to be married by so, we are a little confused on what to do next. Te beneficiary is here on a visit (USA) for a vacation. When the beneficiary comes back, do we now inform customs about the notice, and she can get her passport stamped or? not?

The letter states something about applying for permanent residence as well, Its pretty confusing if you ask me. If something with some experience can chime in and give us a few words of our next step, it would be greatly appreciated!!

  8. A marriage license is usually only good for a month or so, so if you get one now it won't be good when you need it.

You can't get married now unless you want to forfeit the K-1 process and start over with a spousal visa.

You can't de facto live in the US. Border Patrol will catch on to your pattern and see you are living in the US and just going home for a few days and deny you entry.

a marriage license is only goo for a month?

  9. You have to remain unmarried until your fiance enters the US with the K1 visa inside their passport. Then you can get married - and have to within 90 days of them entering the US.

As a rule of thumb, the non-US person generally has to spend more time out of the US than in it. So 2 weeks in the US followed by 3 weeks out of the US might work. However, expect more scrutiny by CBP. If you resign from your job, then that is a tie gone from Canada and it may make it more difficult to get in.

We have all been where you are. We all hate being separated from our loved ones. But it will be worth it in the long run.

    thank you!

  10. I'll do the time line now. We've just been doing a lot of talking. The travels back and forth are getting stressful. We've only submitted our forms, and they've been accepted for process. We haven't received any letters or packages yet. It's been 3 weeks only since we're notified about immigration receiving our package.

I just do not want to jeopardize our relationship; in result of us just signing the documents and because we didn't follow proper procedure.

  11. My fiance and I have been discussing a few things. We can't take the distance between us.

It might be in our best interest to do the following. Since he makes more money, its not really an issue right now. We agreed upon, I would quit my job, and live in the states with him 2 weeks at a time. I would go back to canada, every second week for a few days. Would this mess our process up?

Also, why can't we just sign the marriage licences now? We've filled our forms out, and we have sent them in, we know they're in the middle of 'processing' them. If we were to sign the documents, would that also mess our process up?

    Suggestions please!

  12. Oh nice!

Is it exciting to know that finally you can be together? I know it is for me! It's a little hard for us right now to see each other often. We kind of meet half way, it does get pricey. I work in the tourist industry too and it's our busy time. Hard to get three day weekends and lose a days pay when it's time to save because, there will be a period where I can't work for a little.

    Slow process times suck!

  13. Yeah. That's handy at least smile.png he's a two day drive from me...or three hour flight lol.

I haven't gone down since we applied, I've stretched myself financially to get the house all pretty and have it sell quick (still hasn't, to say I'm stressing is an understatement) but..I'm thinking of going down in October. But it all depends on where we are at. Gotta also remember ill have to head to Vancouver for medical and consulate interviews. Least it's only a day's drive...or a quick flight.

Yeah, I'm a three hour drive from him. So it's not too bad. I take the greyhound down to see him and it's a nice peaceful ride. We're just at the start of our process, I just wrote the part where we and how we met. He has to do something with the court house and, our stuff will be sent.

So Pro, you will be coming to Canada to stay with your Fiancee?

  14. Thank you Pro Star, it's nice to know there are other couples out there in the same situation, I appreciate it!

I didn't think it would be hard to travel back and forth, both of us are close to the border, and I'm sure my boss can write something stating i go back to work on a specific date.

  15. Thank you! Just pretty much who, what, where, when, why, how... Got it..

Oh, then I read somewhere that, once the k1 has been submitted, I may not be able to enter the states?

We're uncertain about him coming to Canada due to a criminal record. We are trying this weekend for him to come here. Hopefully he can.

  16. Hi Everyone.

Here is the situation. I will continue to post in this thread as I may have a few questions.

My fiancee and I are starting the K1 process. We aren't too far into the process.

We're really hoping everything will be smooth sailing after this.

A little background. Him and I meet online. Not even a dating site. It was a bodybuilding message fourm. We started chatting on there, eventually moving to skype, leading into meeting, and starting an amazing relationship, next thing, he popped the question.

I'm in Canada. He lives in the States.

My question is, in regards to the "how we met" section. Exactly, what format do I use? Or, do I just state exactly how it all started off, giving dates, etc.?

    Thank you,

    GermanCanadian
