  1. I just read in the official website:

    • Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled

I think this is why they did that

I organized the petition in a binder with multiple sections that I labeled with what's in each section. Since my fiancé put one dollar too much on the check they sent it ALL back and told us to put the correct amount on the check.. And... All of our documents were taken out of the binder and just put on top of each other. Doesn't seem like they care for it

  2. Oh yeah and this is one reason why : - Whenever you have doubts about something ASK ABOUT IT : no one was born Mister- know -it -all !!!

    It's better to ask about something before you do it yourself even the easiest questions can make an issue in the future , now it has delayed the process but it's all good. One mistake equals one learned lesson ;

    All the best everyone

I sent in a thumb drive of Facebook and Yahoo Chat messages along with my K-1 package and they sent thumb drive back to me and said they don't accept the format. sad.png Maybe I should have printed out thousands of pages and submit them. Right?

  3. How long did they take to send it back to you?

Look it doesnt make sense if you send thousands of pages and be sure they won't even look at them (waste of time, effort, ink and papers) but rather to send one chat log taken from every month. That is 20 pages maximum.

They won't accept a thumb drive, because first they need something concrete- papers- and second they are vigilent towards hacker....One powerful virus and they are scre....!

  4. "I kissed the first page and said a prayer !!!!" ROFL xD

When I was gathering the info, I kept in in a folder with a check list on the front of file. When i sent off the package, i must have checked each form, each line about 5 times. I kissed the first page and said a prayer. I put it all in the envelope without the folder, without the clips. We did not get any RFE.

  5. I also like this idea, Imma add in the third part of golden tips. Thank you and if you have any other ideas please don't hesitate to share your tips with the community. All the best

I would like to add that one real good way to organize all that you will need to bring to the interview is to keep it in a tabbed binder that is no bigger than 1-1/2 inches thick (so it can easily slide under the window opening) and have a table of contents in the front page, breaking it down into major sections - official documentation, evidence of support, and evidence of bonafide relationship.

They will be impressed with that. See my example in my link below.

Anything too big to fit in there of course can be brought in a separate package, referenced in the binder.

  6. Had the same question before since I has applied before for a tourist visa for other reasons (same sex couples could not apply for a fiancé visa at that time and our options were limited ) and were denied . A member of VJ has the same experience, they were denied a tourist visa, had applied later for a K1 visa and was approved no problem. They didnt even ask them to provide explanation of why applying for a fiancé visa while your first attempt were touristic. No need to apply from another place!! just doesnt make no sense to me.

  7. You experience is very encouraging. Thank you for the advice

My biggest advice to you is be one step ahead. Get prepare and try to think all the possible questions, issues, posible red flags, problems and the way you are gonna respond to it. In my case my hubby and and I are 3rd cousins once remove which is basically 4th cousin. And were concern about getting denied. We made sure to have plenty of proof of our relationship, despite our blood bond, and posible answers to any questions related to our family bond. We thought about hundreds scenarios. In the end, the CO asked me how we met and we told her we were related in 4th degree and that was it, she never asked me anything else regarding that topic and were approved. My other advice to you and for anyone starting this process is being mentally and emotional ready for this journey. This is process is not for everyone.

  8. Not really studied but I've read a load of K1- related informations not only on this forum but on miscellaneous other websites, read people's views and experiences, lawyers viewpoint, watched videos also.....all this by taking notes. So lie I said "trying to have experience before having experience"

Have you studied the K-1 stuff here, in the Guides section, from a PC? I ask, cause it's very dense on the info.

  9. Very nice of you! thank you very much !! and best of luck for you also

Also not a same sex couple but nonetheless so happy that everyone is now able to go through the same stupidly long and needlessly expensive process we get to go through (I'm totally not jaded at all with it >.<) to be with our foreign spouses and companions. Best of luck to you, you deserve to be together just as much as anyone else and I'm glad the US government finally recognizes that.

  10. Ok here are tips I gethered after gone back and forth on almost all forums and websites dealing with K1 visa. I may have missed something so if you don't mind, share with us your tips and let's make the list even bigger.

    Before the interview:

    - Read the embassy reviews for your country. There are many things that are specific for each country. Chat on this forum with people who have recently had an interview at the consulate you will be interviewing at. (by Agrab)

    - Compile a list of possible interview questions from the lists that are posted on VJ or other sources. (By Redicent)

    - Print out this list, have a friend find someone you dont know to ask you these questions and ask for the various documents, in a random order, as a mock interview. If you do this a couple times, you will have greater confidence at the real interview. Confidence goes a long way... (By Redicent)

    - Be always organized : make a checklist

    - Know Each and Every document you will bring to your interview

    - Practice with your Fiance commonly asked questions.

    - Whenever you have doubts about something ASK ABOUT IT : no one was born Mister- know -it -all

    - Look for posts of people whose visa was denied. Why was it denied?

    - Look for posts of people whose visa was approved. Is there a secret to there approval?

    - It's better to give them more evidences of a genuine relationship then not enough, just don't over do it: 1000 printed chat logs will just look weird

    - Keep one think in mind ----> "One mistake and I'm scr*wd" : This will make you more vigilent while preparing your petition. A missing document, an empty tab, .....Nope! Non o' this is permitted my dear!!!

    During the Interview :

    - If possible attend the interview with your fiance, especially if there are "red flags" with your case. (By Agrab)

    - Make sure you psychologically prepare yourself beforehand for the big day

    - Again be organized with your documents: Have a quick view on the whole thing before you go to sleep.

    - Prepare what you're gonna wear for the interview beforhand: Another Ugly Truth on the district BUT Looks matter (sometimes...)

Also the famous: "oh! where is my black belt", "which one should I wear, the blue one or the white one???" ........ you won't waste your time in such time- consuming shallow details if you get rid of them the night before the interview.

    - Read posts of people who were approved before you go to your interview and think: if they did it, we are doing it too! The future of your relationship lies in this very day SO MOVE YOUR A** AND DO IT!!!!

    - Try to calm yourself down. Fear is not to be welcomed. Beside , don't worry , I've made my researches and found out that CO don't eat people, they hold our future beneath their hands no wonder, but they are just humans.... Do what they ask you to do, be prepared and everything is just gonna be OK

You are going to find some post telling you that not getting a lawyer to fill your petition is a big mistake. Funny stuff is : they are lawyers themselves! so they are interested in your pocket ...Oups! I mean in guiding you ....

    GOOD FATE

  11. Read the embassy reviews for your country. There are many things that are specific for each country. Chat on this forum with people who have recently had an interview at the consulate you will be interviewing at. Find out what questions they were asked. All the things that people had shared with us about the consulate in Romania were pretty accurate - right down to the questions they asked. If possible attend the interview with your fiance, especially if there are "red flags" with your case.

I'm adding this point and make another list with this one included. Than you for the suggestion

Very important tips! Im adding this too !

Compile a list of possible interview questions from the lists that are posted on VJ or other sources. Include the types of documents you may be asked for in the list. Print out this list, have a friend find someone you dont know to ask you these questions and ask for the various documents, in a random order, as a mock interview. If you do this a couple times, you will have greater confidence at the real interview. Confidence goes a long way...

  12. But only one thing. So I have already tried a tourist visa about 6 month ago or maybe less since same sex couples couldnt apply for fiancé visa AND didnt have any intentions to stay there. Our were so hopeless but we have never ever had the attention to stay illegally since it's lame. Now that Doma is dead, everything has changed, it's our chance to reapply but as fiancé now. Im pretty sure they will be asking as about applying like a tourist at first and than for a tourist visa. Still don't know what to do

    And.....'DON'T LIE'

If you don't know or you forgot the answer, just tell the CO that you don't know or you forgot. Because lying to the CO is a very serious offense and it might cause you a lifetime visa denial.

    Good review though! good.gif

  13. We may be a minority but I was wondering if there are any binational same-sex couples on this forum. We all know the hardship we have to go through in order to reunite with our beloved one and have the same rights as hetero couples.

Me and my fiancée have just started filling the petition.

    Where are you from?

Since when have you been in relationship?

Which petition are you applying for?
