  1. Hi everyone! turns out when my MIL came to the country and they questioned her, she gave our new address (a miracle she remembered!). And they told her that's not what they have on file (she says they were trying to intimidate her haha)

But she held her ground and stated that her son recently moved. So they wrote down the address, and we got her new Social Security Card a couple weeks ago in the mail to our new home!

Still waiting on the Green Card though. It's been 4 weeks now, is this normal? We did pay the immigration fee like 1 day after she came in (I know we were supposed to do it before, that was our bad).

  2. Thank you all. This is all helpful info. On top of everything though, we moved. So I need to make sure if they are sending a SS or green card that they have the right address. Would we need to call the USCIS or the DOS for that to check?

Otherwise, as soon as she gets home, we're checking her visa stamp to get her A number and DOS case ID that I'm reading on the immigration fee payment page we need to check if we've paid that fee yet or not.

  3. Hello everyone! My US Citizen husband did all the steps necessary and his mother is officially in the US today! My understanding is she enters as a permanent resident.

What is the next step now to get her a physical green card? Do we still need to do an Adjustment of Status since she is already a PR? Does the government just automatically send a green card? (We moved so our address is now old with what my husband used to petition for her)

Can we get her social security card before getting her green card? I can't seem to find a website that clearly describes how to get these physical cards next. Let me know if you know, thank you!

If it helps, she just immigrated from Lima Peru to Tampa Florida. Thanks!

  4. Hello everyone! My husband became a citizen last year January, and this year he is finally petitioning for his mother in Peru.

Question, she plans on visiting on her tourist visa for 4.5 months April through August (she does this at least once a year since she has so many grand kids here as well as in Peru!). So if we file for her by the end of this month March, do you think there will be any issue between April-August that requires her to be back in Peru like an appointment? I've read it takes about a year for the whole process, so hoping she'll be back in Peru before we hear back.

Also, we live in Florida, does this mean our office may be Texas? Does anyone know if they've been relatively fast or slow?

    Thanks!

  5. The first thing we did when my husband (then fiance) came was get him an iphone. If you do that he'll start getting mail. He doesn't have to be your family to be on your account.

The second thing we did was get him his social security card after two weeks of being in the states so his i94 would be in gov files and they would find him. As a k1 visa holder he is allowed to get one now. That's another thing coming in your mailbox addressed to him!

We didn't have any problem getting our own bank account. You don't have to be married. If they need proof of residency, use where you currently are. Is he staying with you? For our case, my husband is living with me in my parent's basement. We plan on moving out after our religious ceremony but right now and at that point that's our residency even though it's temporary. So we used that address and he got a debit card and access to our checking account no problem.

When we got bank statements, and his social (which is a federal mail i think) we could use that for him to get his license when he was ready to take the written test.

Those were our step by steps that we did and he was able to get everything he needed to establish himself. We also got married a month after he arrived and then we just went back to the bank to change my name, and SSA for my social, and the DMV for my license.

Let me know if that helps and feel free to message me if you want more details!

  6. So frustrating. the $1070 is still in our bank account. We called a second time and they said to go to a local office using info pass to schedule. I went and nothing was available. We called again and they didn't mention info pass but to call dept management? I think that's what they said. So I'm going to try. And I'm finally able to get an info pass appointment, so I'll try that after.

Basically, they said to call back after the 90 days are over which is june 24th for us. We are so bummed, didn't think his travel documents and work permit would take the full three months :(

  7. Good morning!

So in March we sent the three applications, permanent residency, advanced parole, and work permit. Near the end of the month we got the NOA1. For the PR it said our Biometrics fee was accepted, which was part of the $1070 we paid in one check.

When I checked my bank account, they had not cashed it yet. But his bio letter comes and a month passes, he goes to his appointment, and it's now May and it still has not been cashed.

We did call the USCIS almost two weeks ago, and I talked to a 2nd tier officer who put in a service request for us. She said to just keep the $1070 in our account in case it does get cashed, and to call back in two weeks if nothing changes. I'm thinking I'm going to have to call back soon.

I'm wondering if this may be the problem?:
When we filed, I had already started the process of changing my name, and we opened up a new joint bank account. Our checks weren't going to come for another week, so our bank gave us generic checks, so it didn't have our names, but they did have our bank account number and routing info, etc, of course! But the bank suggested we write out our names and address is the top left corner of the check where it would usually be printed on a regular check. Do you think they may send an RFE because we wrote our names in the top left corner? The check is totally valid, it would take money from our account, we just wanted our names on it.

When I was on the phone with the officer I didn't mention that, so I will when I call again.

Has this ever happened to anyone where the USCIS took a long time to cash your check? Has anyone had their bio test when the check hadn't been cashed?

    Thanks for your insight!

  8. Morning everyone,

So my now husband is here in the US with me (used k1 fiance visa), we've applied for his residency, work permit, and AP. Everything seems to be going great, he had his bio appt already and it went well. We have the NOA1 for all three cases and we can see they're status on USCIS.

Question is about his passport. The passport he used to come here (has his visa) was going to expire in december this year, so our plan was to get a new passport for him for our honeymoon in august anyways (it's in Puerto Rico so still in the US but wanted a passport just in case they ask).

So it was always our plan to get him a new passport and we'd have the old one with the visa BUT now we can't seem to find it. Ever since we got his diver's license we haven't needed it and now we can't find it. I'm sure if we keep looking it may come up, but just wondering... is it really awful that we lost his passport with the visa? Will he ever need to show that in the future for anything now that he has a state ID and the residency process is started?

I do have high resolution scans of his old passport if we ever needed it. Just wondering what repercussions this would have.

    Thanks for your insight!

  9. Filling out an I-129F.

    My fiance's address is:

    Name

    Street Address

    Urbanization

    City

    Peru

There's no room for the Urbanization on the I-129F Form. How do I take care of this? Should I leave it off, or should I use a continuation sheet?

Just checked a copy of our petition, and I dont think I put Urb either. I put the city (Ate in my case) in the city, and Lima as the province, and Peru as the country :) no problems either!

  10. Ok, for a K-1 the vaccinations are NOT required to enter the US. They are only required when you are filing adjustment of status. Only the first vaccine of a series is required. If you have already received your vaccines, you do not need to "update" them. It is possible that you were eligible for a second dose of a vaccine, however it is not required in order to get your visa.

He should have gotten a copy of immunization for his own records when he picked up his results (not in the sealed envelope). We did and I know others have gotten it too...but we went to the male doctor. Did he go to the male or female doctor? Maybe the female does things differently?

Okay we figured it out. You two were right. It was not needed for the interview but they told him they were shots he was going to have to get in the US anyways and in Peru it's always cheaper so why not now? And he asked and they gave him a copy of his shots record. So now he's good to go! :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Hope this helps someone else too.

  11. Was your fiance's immunization report marked as "Vaccine History Incomplete"? A friend here, also from Peru, said her fiancee's was marked as "Incomplete" and also one of the shots was checked off as "Time Interval"....she thought that meant she needed a series of shots with a certain duration between them. I don't know if that's the case for yours, but I would look at his immunization report and see what it says. My fiancee got hers back from the clinic today but it's marked as "Vaccine History Complete" so we're hoping we're good to go. Interview is tomorrow! dancin5hr.gif

Hmmm I will ask him but aren't the results sealed? He can't open them right? I think they told him they are to "reinforce" them.

    Cristiiii

hi! well it seems that it could be possible because today i received a call from the hospital, i didn't get to answer but when i call back someone told me "maybe it's because there have been an update i don't know, i can't give you more information" so i never knew why they call but now reading this maybe it's because a new shot. That would have been annoying. Maybe is for the influenza shot.

    Good luck!!

Are you going to call back and see what they wanted? Let me know if they explain!

  12. I don't have words to describe how happy we are now!

THANK YOU SO MUCH VJ! thank you for sharing life experiences, good and bad, information, EVERYTHING!

The interview appointment was today at Lima's embassy at 8:15 am. I am so happy that my fiance was here with me. We arrived at 6:30am and get in like at 7:15 am. By 9:19am we were OUT and with our visa approved. It was so easy. I will write soon a review about today. Meanwhile i will spend some time celebrating with my fiance!

    WE ARE SO HAPPY!!!!!!!! star_smile.gifstar_smile.gifstar_smile.gifstar_smile.gif

    Good luck to everybody!

    CONGRATS!!! :D

  13. Hello VJ family!

My fiance and I are in the final stretch. His interview is at the embassy in Lima Peru on January 30th

My fiance had his medical exam back on December 9th and he picked up his sealed results a week after.

Just today the clinic where he had his medical exam called him to come in and get more shots, an update of the shots since it has been a month.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Is this normal and necessary for the interview? We're not sure if the shots have to be up to date within a month of the interview or if it's a routine the clinic goes through. Sadly it means more money, we wouldn't have accepted the early medical exam date if had known.

    Thank you!

  14. Cristi I'm also awaiting an interview date and my fiance and mine paperwork arrived in lime also the 25th. Any new word that you know of? I check the ceac website many times a day and it still says "ready" but no sight of the interview date or packet. Anyone know what's gonna be required in the packet?

    Sorry for the delayed response.

If it your case is ready, I encourage you to email them at LimaIV@state.gov.

    • For Status Inquiries for Immigrant Visa (including Fiancée) Cases:
      • The subject line must contain "IV Inquiry," the case number (with prefix of LMA), and the applicant's last name.
      • The first paragraph must include the full names of the petitioner and the applicant, the type of visa, and your contact information.

Found at the bottom of the website here http://lima.usembassy.gov/contact_us2.html

Set up your email that way so they can get you your information as quickly as possible. They should have already assigned you your interview date. Probably it's very soon. The packet is probably taking a while to get to your fiance by mail so you should email so you can get your interview date ASAP so you can prepare.

For me they emailed me my interview letter and a checklist of things the peruvian fiance will need to prepare. Our case was ready on October 28 and we got an interview date of December 2nd. We chose to postpone it though.

If while you wait for the embassy to reply, I can email you the checklist they sent me and the Peruvian doctors' information for the medical exam. Shoot me a message!

  15. Thank you so much. I decided to give it a try .. there is nothing i can lose at this point and there have been always a lot of love between us.

    Thank you for your guidance!

I hope to have at least a month or so because my fiance bought a ticket for this november 29th. We never thought things were going to be so fast at this point. I hope the interview is on January. That will be better.

My case is already "In transit" since friday. I guess it will arrive to Lima this wednesday.

I feel so relieve knowing that i can print the letter instead of tacking the original after hearing that packet 4 actually will never arrive to my door.

    I have some questions:

1- After knowing that my case is in Lima, how much time i should wait to send the email?

2- For the medical, besides the interview letter is there anything else i shoudl take?

3- I have seen a post that talks about the form DS-3025 form that they should give to you after the medical? What is that? here is the post http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/464710-ds-3025/#entry6640422

4- And the last question ... after the medical of what i know you have to wait a few days for them to give you the results right, so they will only give the envelope or they should give you something else? shoul i ask for a copy of my vaccines?

I'm so sorry i think i am overwhelming you.

Thank you for your help and possitive energy smile.png

    1. Send as soon as you see your status change to Ready! Ask them that you would like to know the interview date before the package arrives in the mail to plan in a timely manner

    2. The doctors will tell you what to bring. I forgot which doctor my fiance called, but they gave him a list of things to bring. I can message you exactly what they told him. I'll have to dig through out conversation

    3. I saw that, to be honest I have to do some research myself. Don't know much about that, sorry. If I find anything I'll let you know!

    4. I also don't know this since we're not there yet. But again I'll let you know what I find! Definitely see if they'll give you copies of anything. Always good to have doubles.

and no problem! smile.png glad to help wherever I can!

    EDIT:

just found it here! woo hoo http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

    NOTE: Tip Regarding Vaccination Records

The K-1/2 beneficiary will be required by the embassy to have a "medical" done prior to the visa interview. Part of this interview will require that previous vaccinations are documented and potentially additional required vaccinations performed. Once this is complete the doctor will note this on a DS-3025 form that will be sent to the embassy. During the medical appointment request an official copy of the vaccination records from the physician (or a copy of the completed DS-3025 if they will give it to you) as this will be helpful to have on hand in the future (specifically it can be helpful when filing for Adjustment of Status if your DS-3025 form is not available).

  16. You are an angel innocent.gif ! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will do that smile.png Thanks for sharing it really helped me a lot because i didn't have any idea on what to write!

Your interview is less than a month! GOOD LUCK TO BOTH! i hope you write the experience of your fiance in the embassy !

    star_smile.gifstar_smile.gifstar_smile.gif

Hi! Hope it's okay I chime in.

I read on the embassy in lima's site to make sure that the subject of your email includes your case number. I think it helps them know how to reply better at first glance. Did you already send the email? If you didn't I can give you the link where it says the format.

It looks like Peru is working a month at a time. Right now they are filling up December with interviews. So you'll have a month to prepare. My fiance and I decided to push our date back to January, but he called the doctors anyway to see how busy they were. They were willing to give him a medical on November 18th! He declined because we'd rather have the results more current closer to our January date.

When you go for a medical they ask you bring the interview letter but I've heard that packet 4 that has it takes a while to arrive. if you email them like mentioned above, they will probably email you the interview letter in an electronic form. My fiance asked the doctor and they told him it was fine to bring in the printed email interview letter. That could help you with time so you don't have to wait for the packet. Still double check with the doctor when you call though.

Good luck and so glad you've decided to keep going! :)

  17. Hye Cristi1231

    I have a question.

What is the NVC letter? we haven't received it and now i'm worried. Our case is still in transit to the embassy.

Thanks for the information. I'll make sure to follow and gather those documents.

Oh sorry for worrying you! Don't worry too much about that. I got it like 3 weeks after the NVC received it, the embassy already had it and we already had gotten our interview date haha. It's a letter from the NVC stating they have your petition. So I got it WAY late. Do you have your interview date already? I'm sure you'll get it before your interview. It's not like the USCIS in how they send you your NOA1 and NOA2 a week after they tell you via email. Also, double check, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary to have this letter. The main thing is the NOA2

  18. My Fiancee's application was FINALLY shipped to the NVC and then to the Lima consulate on the 25th of Oct.

When he called today to see if he could find out his scheduled interview time (Peruvian mail is notoriously slow, and he hasn't received the packet yet), the consulate worker said that he just had to pay the MRV fee in cash to the bank and then could schedule the appointment after. He said to do so through this site: http://usvisa-info.com.

But as we signed him up for the site and went through the process described to get the printable bank slip, nothing works. We are never directed to the page to print off the PDF bank slip to pay.

Has anyone experienced this? Or know how to deal with this part of the process? I am kind of confused, because I have been reading that others pay the MRV fee AT the consulate during their interview, so I don't know why the process is different for us?

All of these different instructions and hold ups are starting to get SO frustrating. Any advice would be appreciated!

Also, does anyone have a good e-mail address to contact the consulate in Lima? We keep getting different e-mail addresses, and none of them seem to work well...

    Thanks!

Hey girl! I know this was before we chatted yesterday, but just confirming you know now that he doesn't pay online, but at the interview. If you go to the Embassy reviews page you can read a bunch of stories of how people paid at the embassy :) and a tip I am seeing is to bring exact cash.

  19. Well, xD

This is all I could find.... x_X

    http://emilylikestomakestuffdiy.blogspot.com/p/immigration-adventures.html

    I hope it's somewhat helpful?

You might want to call the embassy and ask them what do you need to send...

    -Mari-

Thank you! I think i've been to that site before haha. Yeah I will probably email them. It just takes a few emails back and forth for them to finally understand my question. So wanted to try here first lol

Packet 3 doesn't apply for Peru, but the ds-160 you should be able to complete anytime you want. I got a letter from NVC directing me to have my fiance start the ds-160. We filled it out last night. It's relatively simple, it took about 1 hour. You need to upload a digital current passport photo of yourself for it as well. We're in the process of waiting for an appointment date, or case was ready yesterday. Ahhh.. so excited, but impatient. I wish we knew our date!!! smile.png

Did you guys get your new date yet for Jan?

That's what it looks like to me... Maybe it doesn't apply to peru or maybe the DS160 took place of that? We started filling it out! My fiance doesn't have a laptop or internet and every other day he's on a boat which is his job so I'm filling it out for him since it would be difficult to do so on his phone haha. It's taking us some time because I can't go further until I get more info from him.

Not yet! We'll know after our original date of december 2nd has passed. They asked me to send a reminder email of the rescheduling then. A whole month of waiting! So we're gathering stuff in the mean time.

If packet 3 doesn't apply to Peru, then we'll continue as is with the checklist they gave us! :P

  20. We filed for a K1 visa and my fiance and I have gotten all the way to the assigned interview step.

They gave us a December interview date via email after I asked and they also sent us the interview checklist for my fiance. We asked to reschedule as soon as they emailed us back, so today I confirmed that they did not mail my fiance anything since we decided to reschedule. All we have is the old interview letter pre-rescheduling and the checklist that we got via email.

I believe those two items are packet 4, correct? I've been reading around and I can't figure out what packet 3 is. The US embassy Lima page seems outdated still as it still includes the old forms and not the new DS 160 form. The checklist we got specifically says to use the online DS 160 form so we know it applies to this embassy. But on the embassy page there is no info on packet 3.

I can't find a really current thread on this, so I would appreciate information from any VJers out there who have recently received information from the Lima embassy via mail. It's starting to look like packet 3 doesn't apply for Peru?

    Thank you!

  21. I don't know what the norm is, but ours took a while. We had a NOA2 of July 18th and the embassy didn't receive our case until Sept 9th. I doubt it'll take that long for yours. Check the CEAC website at https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx? for your case status and when it says ready you can call, actually emailing the embassy is easier I think, and find out your interview date.

Thank you! it looks like Peru is working a month at a time. November is currently full but December is still open.
