  1. Oh, really? I was sure it said you need a birth cert of each person on the application. I guess that is if there is a few beneficiaries.

Yes, that is regarding other Irish people you may be bringing over too, like your kids for example. But your American fiance's birth cert doesn't need to be included in any part of the visa package. Just pop your one in the pot and you're done. :-)

  2. I just got my cehcklist this morning and was wondering the same thing if I need that for my American wife?

    Any suggestions would be great.

    Thank

Hi Dochas, I got my visa months ago and passed the interview no problem. No, you don't need any copy of your fiance's birth cert, all you need is a certified copy of your birth cert throughout the whole process including the interview, :-)

  3. Hi, I have a few questions about getting a drivers permit under K-1, particularly in Oregon as I imagine sate laws are slightly different. I've been here for just under 3 months and my K1 Visa expires in 7 days. I gotten married within that time and am awaiting my marriage cert so I can begin applying for green car and work permit. My question is do you need have your green card in hand to me entitled to the 2 year permit or can you gain it prior to the green card? DMV told me I need to go to Portland to have immigration them extend my visa so that I can be issued a permit for the length of the extension. Seems a bit silly that the K-1 is still a determining factor long after you get married and apply for a green card, especially when they allow illegal aliens to get their permits without even a passport in hand (I was talking to an illegal Mexican that day and her sister was getting one that day without papers!), that's really counter-intuitive and unfair. I don't see why therefore why it should be an issue whether you get your license just prior to your visa expiring and then possibly going home if illegals can get it anyway. Would make more sense to just give it to the legals to allow them to freely drive to the places they need to go to secure their residency and other essential things that require a car. I'd love to know can you only get a 2 year permit when you actually have the green card in hand (which can take up to 6 months sometimes). If you have to it is silly because they grant you a work permit prior to getting the green card yet you can't really avail of the work permit without being able to drive. If it is as messed up and absurd as it is I home immigration will give me at least 6 months on the visa so I won't have any hassle if their is aa delay with the green card and lose the ability to get myself to work.

  4. Hi Loughrey,

Could you please let me know what you ended up doing with the medical? We just got our NVC case number after waiting almost 7 weeks and I would like to know if we can schedule the medical before we have our interview date?

Hi, yes you can schedule your medical before you get your interview date because that's what I did. I got my medical before I even sent back packet 3. They will ask you when your appointment date is but don't require it. All you need is the passport. They'll allow you to collect results the following week or the day of your interview. I think it's best to book the medical first because they can give you a date very quickly.

  5. Hey friends....

Am I going to get my letters of Intent rejected because I didn't put my address and his address on the letter???????????? This are the second letters of Intent I sent...they ask for them on a RFE!! sad.png

IWe didn't put our addresses on our letters of intent and we got approved. The address is not necessary because they are already in the forms. Just put your signatures and date. :)

  6. She has two 5x5 photos for the visa itself. The question is what photo size is needed for the medical examination. Sounds like the simpest thing to do is to bring both but this is going to result in a lot of eye-rolling when I tell her :-).

I know, it was hassle for me too trying to get those 5x5s and that's why I just ordered 6 while I was at it just in case. I think they only accept 5x5s for both the medical and the application because the medical photo is to be stapled onto form DS-2053 and that has a 5x5 requirement on the form, which means the same rule applies regardless of the embassy.

  7. The website says 3x4 for the medical's photos here:

    http://moscow.usembassy.gov/physicians.html

    And 5x5 here:

    http://moscow.usembassy.gov/iv-medinfo.html

Obviously this is a little confusing to say the least. I told my fiancee to go for 3x4. I think she will be a little irritated if she needs to do photos again (she's already had photos done four times, 2 for the I-129, 2 for the DS-230, 1 for the DS-156 and 2 for the medical). Looks like even the embassy isn't sure what size they should be...

I think you should get her to get the 5x5 because that is the standard US passport size and as far as I know that is the only size they accept. The 3x4 may refer to an older standard. If she doesn't have the correct photo size during the interview she may be sent home to reschedule. The 3x4 is the size standard of most other countries for passports but the 5x5 is the new US passport size.

  8. He may not need the vaccinations. I was worried about the MMR vaccination and others but the doctor just signed off on them because I had them as a baby even though I probably could have done with boosters. All I was required to get was the tetanus even though I didn't get the MMR since I was a baby. He should do the medical and talk to the doctor about his concerns because the doctor may sign off on them if he had them as a baby etc.

  9. The reason copies of IMS and emails are useful and important is because it proves that you are maintaining an ongoing relationship since having the petition approved since circumstances can change with a relationship in the time it takes to get approved. If you have anything like stamped envelopes, copies of dated emails etc. that prove that the relationship is still alive between the approval and the interview then include those. But in both cases, whether it's for USCIS or the embassy an [updated] signed and dated letter of intent from your fiance is strong enough and often sufficient enough to prove an ongoing relationship. But in the case of what you did send I think you ticked all the boxes because that is exactly what I sent and I was approved no problem. Since France is a visa waiver country it shouldn't be very strict anyway.

  10. Your petition was sent to CSC and you said on a previous post that CSC were lenient!

Which embassy has your case been sent to? London? Things are moving slowly there at the moment.

Thanks very much Jacque. I wasn't sure of the abbreviation. Yes, iit was sent to the California center. It's with the embassy now and it's Dublin. I was fortunate because I made a big complaint about the embassy on their Facebook wall and I got a call from them awhile ago to say a staff member who is over the Facebook account told them of my frustration and so a consular called me to let me know what is going on. So the girl said they have the documents I sent and are in the process of preparing for an interview date. That's really great news to hear! Thanks for much for all the help! :)

  11. Do you have your DOS case file number?

Please consider reviewing the K-1 Flowchart for more information:

    Happy trails.

Thanks A&B but according to that I should have received my interview long ago. I notice that quite a few Irish people have received their packet 4 consistently in 6 days for the last few weeks but I have heard no word. They were supposed to send me details of the police certificate once I sent in the DS-230 form and I did about 2 months ago but heard nothing. They should really have a status system like USCIS has.

  12. If CSC handled the case don't worry about it. Relax!

Thanks for replying. I'm not sure what CSC is but I don't think they did. Just USCIS, NVC and the consulate handled my case as far as I know. It's just frustrating not knowing whether your documents were even received by the relevant department. I sent them by registered and there were simply signed my a person called 'Margaret' so I don't know whether that was the embassy or someone else. The Irish postal system is notorious for sending things to the wrong address so I'm not trusting them.

  13. I'm wondering if there is any other department other than the Embassy to contact regarding the status of your application? It is impossible to get in contact with my embassy, either by email or phone, or letter, since they don't reply. So I need another avenue to follow to find some information on the status of my case. I haven't heard anything in 3 weeks now and they were supposed to contact me me prior to sending the application of readiness but didn't. I'm anxious to know if they even received my documents or sent out my interview letter because there is an expiration limit on the petition and I want to make sure I have everything well in advance before then. Thanks guys!
