I saw from the USCIS website, you could reached your interview but it will affect the total time span of your application.. It will make some delays.. Well, try to read.. Maybe I'm wrong.
Thank you. I did read we can reschedule. If he has to get here earlier we will deal with it. I rather have things happen too fast than drag behind.
-
Thank you I will read through it again, thats why I questions the paragraph becuase it didnt seem to follow the flow chart.
No problem we expected to wait about 3 months.
In the mean time I will start collecting things for the I-134
-
no, that's not for K-1 visa holders, at all.
Sorry.
oh really? Saddness...
-
ok thank you, makes sense. I just read a PDF copy of the packet 3 we will be waiting for and it states I-134 so I'm not so confused now.
Also I read under the "If your Visa is Approved" page on the Montreal goverment page this little paragraph.
"At your first Port-of-Entry in the U.S., the USCIS Officer will retain your visa package and will place an ADIT (admission) stamp into your passport. The USCIS officer can answer questions about when and how you will receive your green card. Until you receive your green card, your ADIT stamp is your proof of legal residency in the United States and you can immediately live, work and study in the U.S. USCIS office will mail your physical green card to the address that you provided in the Sworn Statement (form DS 230-I, box 11).
I know we arnt at this part yet but is this for real? Becuase that is exciting news. My Fiance's work has a branch here in the US and they have been communicating for possible relocation but we warned them we had to do AOS and all that stuff first. Can I confirm he can work right away so he can inform his HR?
-
Btw what is an I-134 vs I-864?
I have never heard of 864 form but the montreal website says my fiancee will need it for his interview. Normally I have only heard talks of i-134 so which is it and why?
-
We got our NOA2 and claim number in the mail. Yay!
But I’m confused on the next few steps because I see a lot of people talking on here about filling out this or that. I’ve read the flowchart here on VJ but I want to know more detail.
I know he has to do the DS-160 but what can I do in the mean time? What else can we be working on to prepare? What things are time sensitive so we make sure we don’t have to do them again?
I should state he cant schedule his interview till June because he will be visiting in May and we don’t want the Fiancee Visa to activate. Can an interview be rescheduled if it is too soon?
Thank you.

I never receive any texts or emails about NOA2 or anything beside notice of receipt. It made me wonder if we were ever going to hear back. xD Then 1-2 months later we got a hard copy for NAO2. Kind of confusing lol
I signed up for text on the priginal paperwork. I signe dup for emails on the goverments website by making a profile.

30 min ago (10:45 PST) I got an email saying our I129F was approved!!! So is there a time limit for setting the interview date? We are way above schedule and actually need to drag it out now, lol.
I'm updating my time line while looking for the answer. BTW papers were sent to California.

Has any Canadians gotten through? Seems like the quick ones are going more by country than by "order".
As far as wedding I planned for end of November. Going by Gov. estimate it should be September but we dded a few months just in case. I was also HIGHLY recommended not to do this. I'm taking a big risk in doing it.
I heard there was a way to get the visa expidited if work was offering them a job? Its something I might look into for my fiancee because a few companies have asked for him but dont want to sponsor.
-
Happy for the people getting their NOA2's already.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
I wonder what kind of an order they go in. Not that I mind waiting, we had already planned with the longer estimate but earlier would be exciting!
-
having mixed feelings on all these other people that filed in Nov/Dec and have gotten their NOA2s already. On the one hand I would get to be with the love of my life that much faster. On the other hand we had plans for him to finish up work and other things by the 5+ month prediction.
If he gets his Visa sooner he cant come visit me in May for a convention we always go to together or it will start the 90 day activation to get married.
so many mixed feelings on this x_x

I'm curious to know from what countries as well if that plays a part.

Sent paperwork on 12/30, but my papers didn't arrive till January so I am considering myself Jan filer.
NOA1 received 1/16
Alien number changed 1/21

A thought randomly came to me when talking about Adjustment of Status with a family member. My fiancé (from Canada) would like to become a permanent resident so he can work but would also like to keep his Canadian citizenship. I know permanent resident is not citizenship but I wanted to be sure he wont lose his Canadian one.
Is it something I don’t need to worry about?

Oh that’s pretty common.
Met my husband playing WoW and at my Visa Interview the CO said it’s more common than dating sites.
A couple that raids together, stays together.
p.s. Welcome to VJ!
Oh Fantastic! We met through another game but started dating when we were both playing WoW. We still play other MMOs when we have the time
. Glad to hear about the interview too so they wont look at him funny when he answers honestly.

Hello my name is Jessica (26, BFA in Animation) and my boyfriend is Erik (Works for Ubisoft), I already posted to VJ but haven’t introduced myself. Don’t mind me I’m about to gush.
We are not what you call a traditional couple. Actually we “met” online through playing video games. I know a lot of people frown on that, I’m not sure if it’s even the norm around here. I often hesitate to tell knew people how we met because they always have this look like they don’t think I’m telling the truth or it won’t last. Anyways it also worked out for my cousin who is getting married this August to a gam she met through video games; unfortunately my guy happened to be in another country.
We knew each other for 3 years before dating. Honestly I didn’t like him much at first, he knows this too. Some things happened and I started seeing him in a different light.
Later that year he happened to be visiting California. We met up while he was here and it all just clicked. Despite the chemistry we had both just gotten out of a bad relationship and I personally was not looking to start again so soon. About a week after he returned to Canada he said “I’m just going to call you my girlfriend, deal with it” and I said “ok”. Guys I know it sounds bad, but really it was a sweet gesture after our back and forth talk of liking each other but not sure if we are ready.
BTW my family adores him. We are a pretty close group, getting together once in a while to play games and of course any holiday you can think of. He was willing; unlike most men we bring home, to play the games, so major brownie points. My farther treats him like the son he never had. My mother is more than willing to co-sponsor for the K-1. Every time I see my family they asked when he is staying forever. Also they don’t know yet we are already looking over the K-1. Technically I don’t have the ring yet but everyone pretty much considers us engaged we just haven’t officially announced it.
We will soon officially be together for about six years and I have finally accepted to take his proposal. I wanted to wait till we were both finical able and I just started a new job 2 months go so we can live on off that money while he looks for work.
The USCIS is terribly vague and we thought getting married would only take 3-month (The 90 days that’s mentioned). We had no idea he PROCESSING time is 6-9 months. Even though we have not filed yet this site has already saved us tons of pain. THANK YOU.
So basically this is a shout out to Nerdy/Geeky love. I believe it’s possible to find the love of your life through gaming. And people said when I was younger video games are bad or me
-
wow really?! This is great information because it gives me more insight on a question I asked here about a week ago. Normally we had been told to skip to EAD because it takes as long and is a waste of time/money because you'll get your AOS anyways.
But thank you for this helpful thread! Now I can let my fiancee know so he can look for work sooner or let any interested companies know.
Anyways if it's free to do at the same time may as well right?
-
I wish you the best! I'll be watchign this thread becuase I'm about to start the same process.

I’ve been reading up on that CR-1 Visa. One of the minus on the compare chart is it says he will probably not be allowed access into the US. I don’t see much detail on this anywhere. Is that only at a certain part of the process? Can I still visit him?
Right now K-1 is our default plan, CR-1 sounds like it might be a little fast but if I wont be allowed to see him will have to consider that.
-
Thanks for all the response guys. I’ll hold off on any wedding plans besides some of the ones suggested such as my dress, maybe even let the bridesmaids get theirs too. We can always store those away till later.
Also it's not that him working is a must just that, you know the old saying, "when opportunity knocks" etc, etc… A possible 9 months is a long time for opportunities. He has had about 5 promising interviews in the past year but again it also comes down to sponsoring. We tried that route for about 2 years waiting and every time we fell short to it working out. That’s why we have started looking to just filing the K-1 and hoping that once we get him here and adjust his status those same companies that were so interested before noticing he was Canadian (seriously some of them sounded surprised when he reminded them of that like they didn’t even read the resume) might consider him again.
I understand the marry now and then file but the thought of having to tell my “husband” see you soon at the airport is just something I don’t want to do. Also a little background I’m 26 living with my parents because my areas cost of living is high. If you want to move out around here you need a roommate and I don’t want to go through the process of finding one and then telling him getting married bye! So basically long story short not sure my parents would want their daughter, married, living at home.
I think the K-1 route will have to be the way to go and hopefully he won’t feel too bad if a job offer pops up out of nowhere. I’ll need to discuss all this with him of course.
Thank you.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to write. Sorry I just discovered this place three days ago and we have just begun our K-1 process of gathering things. So far everything here has been a huge help so I thought I should join and ask.
Question 1:
This is probably going to have a long answer. Basically I'd like any advice on planning the actual wedding ceremony, being I'm very optimistic that we will not be denied the visa. Of course most vendors you have to book in advance and put in a down payment. Because the time of processing varies from person to person I have a feeling this will be difficult. Does anyone have advice on this? Also does anyone have any additional advice on what I can do for the time being without money setbacks because of cancelation?
Question 2:
Our original goal was for my boyfriend (He’s from Canada btw) to get a job in the states first and then get married. However even with a pile of recommendation letters, networking friends in many companies and having done several interviews (at the moment he works in gaming for Ubisoft Montreal! Fun job) it always seems to be a problem that he was foreign and no one would sponsor him. So finally we just thought to go for it and the job will come.
My question is, if during the 6-9month process a job offer actually does come up how does that affect our process? What measures would we then have to take?
Again I sure hope this is in the proper spot.
i-134 Bank statement
in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Posted
The instructions for the i-134 states we need a “statement” from the officer of the bank. They need the date my account opened and present balance. I was able to get both of those from my bank already. What I couldn’t get that was asked for in the instructions was the total amount deposited in the past year. The officer of the bank told me they do this all the time and don’t to worry about it.
I just really want to be sure…
