My husband had his interview today, and he passed! Woohoo! Here is what he told me about how it went.
First the immigration officer reviewed evidence to support that we are still married. We had included all this in the original application, but it seemed like the officer didn't have any of these papers. Thankfully my husband had brought the copy of everything we had sent. The officer specifically asked for our most recent tax forms, but ended up keeping all the copies of the supporting evidence we had brought (house deed, car insurance, bank statements...all in both our names). I don't know why they didn't already have these things, but at least my husband had the back-ups.
Next reviewed name change. My husband is removing is maternal (second) last name. The officer said all oath ceremonies in Cincinnati are judicial (needed for the name change) and the name change document will be mailed afterward. Signed some paperwork.
Reviewed times my husband had traveled outside the US and specifically if I had gone with him or he had gone alone. (It was a mixture.)
Went over the yes/no questions.
Reading: Who elects Congress?
Writing: The people elect the Congress.
Civics questions:
If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?
Who is the Commander in Chief of the military?
What are the two major political parties in the United States?
Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
There were 13 original states. Name three.

He had the option to have his oath ceremony this Friday, August 31st, or wait for the next scheduled one (not set yet). He chose to do it this Friday.

Added our information above. My husband just got notice of his interview yesterday. We were expecting to wait a year, so I can't believe his interview is 6 weeks from now!

My husband and I recently traveled through Canada for a trip to Peru. My husband's green card was expired, so he was traveling with the expired green card, his NOA, his Peruvian passport, and the eTA for Canada. We had no problems entering Canada on the way down after we showed the agent the green card and NOA. I came back earlier, so he was returning by himself, but the Air Canada agents in Lima, Peru would not accept the NOA as valid and insisted that he needed a Canadian visa to travel through there. I posted on here and people provided both US and Canadian government documents showing that the NOA should be accepted, but the Air Canada agents still refused to let him on (we did not have the Canadian document at the time, so I don't know if that would have made a difference). He ended up needing to buy a ticket straight to the US. I 100% believe the Air Canada agents were wrong in not letting him on and have written to Air Canada but have not received a response yet. But all that to let you know that some employees may not know that the NOA should be accepted. But I would expect that employees working in the US and Canada would be more familiar with that document and would hope it wouldn't be a problem.

As they claimed he needed a visa to transit Canada, it might be an idea to point them to CBSA's Guide for Transporters rather than the US equivalent - it clearly states that "I-797 Notice of Action accompanied by the passenger's expired U.S. PR card" is proof of U.S. permanent residence and that a transit visa is not required.
I just finished drafting my letter, and I definitely appreciate the link to the Canadian document since so far I only had proof regarding the I-797 from US documents. I am including the applicable pages from the CBSA document, the US Customs and Border Protection document, and Air Canada's International Tariff. I am requesting compensation for the unused Air Canada ticket, the new Latam/United ticket, my husband's missed day at work, travel costs to and from the airport, and compensation for IDB. I am also requesting that they train or re-train all their employees regarding the I-797. The only address I could find to write to was their Customer Relations department. I'm worried it will not be taken seriously there. Does anyone happen to know a better address for Air Canada? I will let you know when I hear back from them.

Update: My husband tried to go back the next night with some more documentation, including what was linked above, to show that his documents were valid. Air Canada still refused to let him on the plane. They would not consider the I-797 as a valid document, and therefore, they considered him to have an expired green card. They said since his green card was "expired" he needed a transit visa to travel through Canada. He experienced very poor customer service and the manager didn't help any more than the normal agents. He was forced to buy another ticket that went straight to the US (Orlando). He went through Latam Airlines and had no problems at all.
I am going to see what I can do as far as contacting someone at Air Canada about getting all their employees trained on what an I-797 is to hopefully avoid this happening to someone else in the future. If anyone else has other suggestions about how to report this problem, I'm open to any ideas.

Yeah, I looked at quite a few posts on here before I posted and found almost no issues. I don't know what to do so they'll realize that it's valid. And unfortunately I'm in the US, so I'm not there to help.

My husband was denied entry on his plane last night by Air Canada in the Lima, Peru airport. He had his passport, expired green card, and his I-797 notice of action showing that his green card is extended a year and he is authorized for travel while we wait for the removal of conditions on his green card. He also had an ETA (electronic travel authorization), which as far as I can tell, is all that is needed for a US permanent resident to travel to/through Canada. His flight goes through Toronto before entering the US. He was told that the I-797 was not a valid travel document. Has anyone else had similar problems? Any suggestions about what we can do to get him home? All Air Canada agents on the phone are very unhelpful, and they no agents arrive in the airport until 10pm, so he wasn't able to speak with anyone this afternoon. We're looking at other airlines, but don't want to pay an outrageous cost for a new ticket when there's no valid reason he's being denied entry.

Along with the official letter from the Haitian Government recognizing her as the legal guardian.
Was the letter from the government a letter issued when she first became the legal guardian, or is it something she requested for the visa? If she requested it, do you know what the process was for that?
My husband and I are in a similar situation with his little "sister" who has been under the guardianship of his parents her whole life but they don't have official "legal guardianship" documents, more just permission from her biological father to care for her. We are trying to figure out if there is a way to receive documents showing legal guardianship.

I have a fairly specific situation, but am hoping someone may have some insight or experience with a similar situation. My husband is Peruvian and is hoping to have his mom and possibly his dad apply for tourist visas and come visit. The tricky part is he also has a ten-year-old "sister" that he misses very much and would also like to have come. She is distantly related but not actually his sister, but she has been in the care of his family since she was a baby. Her mother passed away when she was born. Her father is still alive and sees her occasionally but has never been the one to actually care for her. My husband's family has some documents showing her dad has given permission for them to care for her but not something that would be considered a "legal guardian."
Our question is what is the best way to approach her tourist visa? Because of her biological father's low income, we feel like he would be denied for a visa. Would we be able to have her apply through my husband's parents? I don't think it would be a problem to get a letter from her biological father saying she has lived with my in-laws her whole life and that he's ok with her visiting the US with them, but would that be enough without some document showing legal guardianship?
I would appreciate any help or insight you have. Thank you.

Yeah, we'll do it since they asked for it. It's just frustrating because I was hoping to have a job by the time we got to the AOS and be the only sponsor. I wish my mom didn't have to do the I-864. She's willing, thankfully, but I still wish she didn't have to. And I still don't understand WHY.

My fiance went for his interview today and got a 221g. Some of the things we expected because the papers I sent him hadn't come in time, so we weren't surprised that they asked for the original I-134. But the part that really surprised us is that they are asking for the I-864 from my mom, who is our co-sponsor. (I don't have a job right now.) I had previously emailed the embassy to clarify which form we needed, and they specifically had said we do NOT need the I-864, although I didn't specifically ask for the co-sponsor. Why are they asking for the I-864? It was my understanding that this is not needed until the AOS. Why is it different for us? Has anyone else experienced this?

I know this is a very old post, but I'm wondering what happened in your situation. My fiance and I are in the exact same situation with his interview tomorrow. He won't have the original signatures unless the package comes today (which I'm praying it will). What happened in your situation? Your timeline stopped right at the crucial part.

The oath ceremony was very nice yesterday. After all the effort to become a citizen, it was a fitting way to end the whole thing.
My husband had to arrive at 12:30. He and the other 69 people taking the oath were taken upstairs to the courtroom to get in their correct seats and receive some instructions. About 45 minutes later, someone came back down to bring the family and friends upstairs to find seats. The ceremony was estimated to start at 2pm, and it started right on time. My favorite part was when each of the 70 people stood up and gave their name and country--such a diverse, beautiful group of people! The whole ceremony lasted about 45 minutes, but then each person received their naturalization certificate and could get pictures with the judge one at a time. My husband was #63, so we had about a 30-40 minute wait until it was his turn. We weren't in a rush, so it was fine. The judge and all the staff there were very friendly and kind and let everyone get all the pictures they wanted.
Probably the craziest part was when we went to dinner a couple hours later to celebrate, one of the staff members at the restaurant had been in the same ceremony becoming a citizen! Such a fun coincidence and fun to hear his story!
