  1. Actually most of Consulate Affairs will stay open during the shutdown. Embassys will NOT close during the shutdown. They will continue to provide services to American Citizens. The Department of Homeland security (according to plans drawn up in 2011) will be mostly unaffected (including USCIS.) Both CA and USCIS draw a good deal of their funding from the fees that we pay so they will be able to continue limited operations (at least for a time.) I wouldn't press the red alert panic button just yet.

Right now the situation is still highly fluid. It's hard to say with 100% certainty how the shutdown will effect federal services or folks in our boat specifically so pooling information in a thread like this is a good idea. Based off of your friends report it sounds like at least interview services will be disrupted during the shutdown.

  2. HELLO WANNA ASK. DO I NEED TO WAIT FOR THE MAIL ABOUT NOA2 HARDCOPY BEFORE I CAN CALL THAT NUMBER?? WHAT WILL THEY ASK BEFORE THEY GIVE THE CASE NUMBER?? TY FOR REPLY..smile.png

All you need is your USCIS Receipt Number. They'll also ask you the name of the petition and the beneficiary. I never had someone tell me I needed the hard copy in hand. That being said... It looks like NVC is taking 2+ weeks to assign a case number and more than in month in more extreme cases. They also say that the case number assignment could take up to 8 weeks. You could save yourself some frustration by waiting for a week or so before calling them.

  3. Hey all!

I couldn't believe it but I received my approval notice from VSC on Aug 13th and a paper NOA2 a few days later. I was waiting on posting until I was sure it wasn't a fluke (there were a few posts of recieving a digital NOA2 notice in error.) I called the NVC today and received my case number and my petition is in route to the consulate. Now I'm sure it wasn't a fluke. Hang in there everyone. It looks like they're picking up the pace on K-1 applications across the board. For the folks that just received their NOA2s I had shorter waits and friendlier service using the number below.

Call DOS public inquiries division on this number 2026-631-225 press 1 then press 0.

You will hear an announcement that they are switching to this number 202-485-7600 on September 6th. When they answer be sure to mention that all you're looking for is a case number for a recently transferred K1 Petition. They can't give you much info on specifics of the case but they will give you the case number if it has one.

Best of luck to everyone! I hope everyone gets their NOA2s quickly!

  4. Hi guys,

I am new to this whole thing so please bear with me.

Quick background on everything- I met my fiance 3 years ago, she is from Argentina and this year we filed the I-129f form. The NOA1 was sent on the 19th of June, 2013. On the 12th of July I checked our case on the USCIS site and was informed that we had moved from initial review to post decision activity. I was quite shocked and pretty excited, but it seemed to good to be true. I called the USCIS number and spoke with them, they confirmed that it looked like the real deal and I should be recieving the NOA2 in the mail.

We had a problem with the mail being sent to the street address rather than the mailing address, so I called and confirmed the mailing address. After 30 days had passed I called to request a new reciept be sent- I recieved an NOA1 in the mail so I checked the case status again and it had moved back to initial review. Obviously I called the USCIS again. I had to speak with a tier 2 to get the information. I was told that it was a computer glitch that had produced that. I had been told by 3 others that this was the real deal and all of a sudden, it was a computer glitch. The woman I spoke with informed me that it was a system wide deal and happened to a bunch of people.

I am just wondering if anyone else out there had this happen?

    Thanks!

    Hi Alex!

I may or may not be in the same boat. I received my NOA1 on July 11 and got a notice that it was approved on August 13th. I didn't really believe it at the time and called to check if it was the real deal and tier 2 confirmed it. I DID get my NOA2 in the mail on Aug 16th. But I haven't received a case number from NVC yet. I suppose I'll be calling NVC every day to see if they have received it or not.

Wishing us both luck on our journeys!

    -Ryan

  5. Gotcha I don't have the kind of paper trail that you have for my trip sadly. I didn't look up K-1 Visa applications until after I returned from the trip. I'll see if I can dig up any hotel reservation confirmation e-mails and I also have my flight purchase confirmation. I think that combined with my passport stamps from my trip and my fiance's trip to the US and maybe even her credit card statements too should do the trick. I also have a ton of correspondence I can dump from gmail. Thanks for all the info! I have a pretty good idea of how I want to write out the answer to my Q18 now.

  6. Hello everyone!

First time post here and I first wanted to say you folks have a wonderful site and community and I really grateful for all the information you have provided. I'm beginning to assemble the I-129F packed and I have a couple questions regarding primary evidence for meeting in the past two years.

First of all, like a doofus I have already thrown out my boarding passes when I went to meet my fiance in her home country(japan.) I do have a digital copy of my flight reservation though. Will that suffice instead? I also have my passport stamped. Would I need to make a color copy of the whole passport or just the reservation page. I am also planning on making a copy of my bank statement with transactions in Japan once it's available next week.

    Many thanks!

    -Ryan
