Agree with the other repondant. If she doesn't remember saying or checking off that she is a citizen and hasn't registered to vote then select no.

Citizenship is forever. A greencard requires you to live in the US with no large breaks in time or risk losing it. My opinion is to get your N400 submitted.

My wife received her card about a week after the date online. Yes, it was the new card. See my signature below

I have a question on card creation and mailing. For those who've tracked their cards in myUSCIS. How many days did it take to receive the card after receiving the notice "New Card Is Being Produced?" Will there be a notice indicating the card was actually mailed?

Congrats! must be such a relief!! Enjoy your day!
Good luck to us, who are still waiting.. sigh : /
I'm wishing all of you good luck! The wait without any information, month after month, is difficult.

Tried to update the list but messed it up. Can someone please update it with approval date 08/21/17 thank you!
-
Hi All,
Received approval letter today in the mail !!
NOA 09/22/16. Like others have said - no updates on USCIS site for case status yet.
Can't wait to actually receive the card.

I believe a lawyer will answer your questions from an extremely conservative, legal point of view. Read that as 'technical' aspect of the law.
I can tell you that my wife was able to travel and return back to the US using her expired green card and the original letter of extension, without a problem.
Would I feel more comfortable that she travel on a valid green card? Yes. But there's been no problem so far.

On top of the forms. From what I understand, when your package arrives, someone goes through the package to make sure all the mandatory information is sent. The cover letter assists them in determining whether the mandatory items are submitted as well as, the evidence that is included.

Really difficult situation.
https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/family/family-preference.html
Returning Resident Immigrant Visas (SB) - A lawful permanent resident (LPR) who has remained outside the United States, for longer than twelve months, or beyond the validity period of a re-entry permit, will require a new immigrant visa to enter the United States and resume permanent residence. A provision exists under U.S. visa law for the issuance of a returning resident special immigrant visa to an LPR who remained outside the United States due to circumstances beyond his/her control. For more information about international travel as a LPR, and returning resident immigrant visas, visit our Returning Resident webpage.
Good luck!
I meant to add the following: Seek the advice of an immigration attorney. If they were good for anything... it's for situations like this, so you know your rights. If you need to go back to your employer and explain your situation - so be it. They may keep you in the States. If not, start looking for an employer.

My Wife did not need to get the I-551 stamp. The I-751 NoA letter clearly states that the letter is good for travel for one year. She has used her expired green card along with the letter (and her passport) for international travel. If you do not have the letter I guess the passport stamp will work... or if your still waiting for the new 10 yr Green Card after the letter expires.

Got our biometrics letter yesterday - updating us here in the spreadsheet.

IMPORTANT!
* Make sure that your VJ Text Editor setting is set to Rich Text Editor. Rich Text mode found top left button in editing mode/box (looks like light switch)
* Go to the MOST RECENTLY POSTED VERSION of this list (go to the last post and scroll UP) and "Reply" to it, deleting the "quote" tags in your reply.
* Please DO NOT change the font, font size, add colors, stuff like that.
* Please PREVIEW before posting to make sure it is properly formatted.
* Please check that you have not deleted anyone's NAME & DATA.
Date of I-751 = The Date you sent your application.
NOA Date = The Receipt Date on your original NOA letter.
Biometrics = The Date of your biometrics appointment.
Approved = The Date your case was approved.
* Please Capitalize your VJ Name when adding it to the list.
* When you're on this list, please come back to update your information accordingly.
* If you cannot add your information yourself, please ask another VJ member to help you do so.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Updated work around if you cant find Rich Text Editor
1. Make sure you are on the correct thread you want to add the post to.
2. At the top of the thread, you will find a blue button that says "Reply to this topic". Click it.
3. You will see your posting box. You don't need to alter any fonts or colors etc. One of the icons (top right hand side) is the editor options. Once clicked 2 boxes pop up. Make sure "Paste as plain text by default" is unchecked. (First time only. Setting will save)
4. Scroll down the page until you come across the first applicant date list. Copy and paste the list and relevant information and paste it in the editing box above. (I use the right mouse click button to copy text and right mouse click to paste. DO NOT "Paste as plain text" as it may not format correctly).
5. Your information in the editing box should look like the actual post with all lines and hyphens in line with each other.
6. If you are adding your name to the list, you need to add a line. Place cursor at the end of the last line and press enter. This continues the correct font and size. Enter information (your VJ name in CAPITALS) and be careful not to erase any other lines. If you are unsure if you have, click cancel button and start again.
7. To edit hyphens to add dates, find your line with your information on it and delete the hyphens and replace with date.
8. Lastly, if you added your name, make sure you put yourself in the right service center ie, Vermont or California. Remember to change the number of applicants depending on which service center your petition is at.
9. PREVIEW POST. Just to make sure everything looks right before posting. If it looks right, then "Add reply". You're done. -
We got our NOA2 Oct 15th and had been calling NVC for case number at least twic a week but they told us that they have not received our file yet from USCIS so the supervisor adviced my fiancée to call USCIS she called them today and spoke to a supervisor who told her that our file has been sent to the consulate directly without going through NVC. Is that normal? Had anybody experienced this before? Is almost 2 months since we got approved and I heard the petition is only valid for 4 months from the date of approval. Please I will like to know if anyone had experience this in the past.
My situation is like yours i have 1 month waiting for case number and the nvc say they havent received anything
Honestly, I'm confused. The embassy typically knows about the case before it arrives because NVC assigned the new case number. Also, NVC can take other steps as additional checking of petitions. With me, after receiving the case number from the NVC rep, I was able to track the case while it traveled from NVC to the consulate. You can contact NVC and DOS numbers to ask questions on your case. USCIS can only confirm that the case was shipped. (Your USCIS case status does indicate "shipped" right?)
Good luck!
He is from dominican republic. I talk to him everyday, we skype all the time, but "in person" i have only spent a week and felt confident enough to start the k-1 process. As far as my statement about the kind of person he is, i feel he would cause no harm to me or my children, but i still have doubts in that area.
Trust yourself. Your doubt is because you don't know him well enough. I think a few visits face to face, will help you to resolve these feelings.
My K-1 Visa application was approved in August and forwared to the embassy in Moscow on August 22, 2013, but my fiance was never contacted by the embassy or sent any documents. Is this normal? Did I miss doing something or does it always take so long for her to be contacted?
I can use any advice!
Thanks in advance
Same happened to me, except my status at the embassy went from "In transit", to ready, to AP. So two weeks after the AP update, I emailed the embassy asking when I can schedule the interview and next steps. They replied I can move forward with scheduling and provided the following:
(BTW, better hurry, the petition is good for four months from NOA2 date & The Police report takes a month regular processing speed. )
Dear Applicant:
We are pleased to inform you that the Immigrant Visa Unit of U.S. Embassy Moscow has received your approved visa petition and that your case is ready for processing.
You should now visit http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ru to complete the following steps: 1) arrange payment of the $240 visa fee (for each applicant); 2) enter an address to which the visa will be delivered; and 3) schedule your interview appointment. Once you pay the fee and specify the delivery address, you may schedule your interview for any available appointment slot. Please ensure that the date you select falls within four months of the date on which the visa petition was approved. Failure to do so may impact the validity of your visa petition.
All applicants for fiancé (e) visas must comply with the processing requirements detailed at http://moscow.usembassy.gov/iv-fiancee.html .This page provides the most accurate and complete information needed to prepare for your interview including a list of required documents.
Please contact the Call Center at + 7 (495) 745 3388 (local) or 8 800 100 2554 (ITFN) or 1-(703) - 745 5474 from the U.S. or via email (support-russia@ustraveldocs.com) if you have any problems accessing the appointment system. Thank you.
.
Good luck!
This. They don't know who the bag belongs to or whether that person is applying for a visa or not when they open it. If yours gets opened a lot, I would get a new bag. Something about it must be difficult to x-ray. Or you carry weird stuff in your bag, like lots of electronics (think of a ball of wires).
I've traveled overseas 6 times in last 16 months, never had my bag opened. (I'm probably due for a check
) But then again, I carry most of the electronics with me as carry-on items. The portable printer often gets a second, third, and forth look, then they check out the person (me) that is collecting the items they just Xrayed. I think if my printer were in the checked baggage, the bag might be opened to get closer TSA examination.
If she has no way of reaching the ex, then you need to hire a detective to find him. Usually they can even if she has little info on him. Then, once found, a lawyer you hire can scare him enough to put something in writing for her.
That's your best bet in my opinion.
No one can force a former petitioner to do anything with a petition they filed... that's why this situation occasionally happens. This is the USA not some dictatorship. The OP needs to go through the process with the Govt office to have the first petition cancelled..
NVC received our documents two weeks ago after the NOA2 was granted Sept 9th. 5 weeks later it was getting old and tired, the waiting. The embassy in Kiev then received them last Friday. (within a weeks time) My fiancée called Monday and was told they have an opening October 31st (today) and then nothing for a few weeks. She quickly booked the interview for the 31st (today). I overnighted the financial documents Monday. She did her medical on Wednesday and was at the embassy in Kiev early this morning. She passed like a champ. The interview itself was about 5 minutes and she was asked about 5 questions. The officer was a young lady who was friendly and smiled at her the entire time. (The embassy in Kiev....top notch) She will receive the visa in about a week and will see America for the first time the following week. Was started out as a long, drawn out slog, ended very very quickly. I wish all of you the great happiness I am experiencing tonight.
Congrats Kiev!!! Best wishes and a lifetime of happiness to you and (the soon to be) Mrs. Kiev! :-)
The Embassy in Moscow says you can't schedule an interview until the visa fee is paid, but they don't tell you how or where to pay the damn fee. I sent my fiance the $240 2 weeks ago to pay it and they won't let her. The links on the http://ustraveldocs.com/ru/ru-niv-paymentinfo.asp#options site are not helpful as they only discuss payments for non immigrant visa's. A K1 doesn't fall under that category. Regardless, I tried to pay anyway, using the credit card method of payment that's listed on this site, but the transaction won't go through. I sent an email to the tech support on the site, so we'll see if they answer. LOL, it's beyond the pale that they make it so difficult to pay. I apologize if some of the more experienced people here think I'm stupid for not being able to figure out what others had such an easy time with.
Mervin,
Went through the same hassles trying to pay by credit card. The message I rec'd states something to the effect that the bank has declined payment... While my calls to the bank they say they have no record of receiving a credit request. My guess it that they've blocked it permanently because you are waiving your right to dispute your charge, which is a violation of federal law? Probably would work with a Russian credit card though.
- I ended up going with my fiancee to a VTB24 branch and paying by cash. It was easy and the receipt has the date-number you need to schedule the interview. Download the pdf for the 240.00 VTB24 Payment Slip - $240 MRV Fee
BTW just enter any numbers for passport... doesn't get added to the form.
Good luck!
-
How did it go for you?
Well, the case is still in Administrative Processing. After two weeks in AP, I sent email to Moscow asking if I can set up interview and list of next steps. Reply from the embassy said I could go ahead and set up interview and included attachment letter of next steps. When we submitted form 160 online, case date updated. Not really sure why it's listed as AP (they didn't answer that part of my email) but I hope the interview will be approved and visa received without any delay. I guess we'll see what happens.
-
NVC received today and we got our case number! Took 38 days from the CSC. Now things will start happening!
Congrats Kiev!
-
It's quite possible that every consulate will decide exactly when they will require the new forms.
*If you were informed before October 15, 2013, that the U.S. Embassy received your approved I-129F petition and you could schedule an interview, you may submit Forms DS-156, DS-156K and DS-230 instead of Form DS-160.
Stuck in a Citizenship question
in US Citizenship General Discussion
Posted
A non citizen of the United States of America cannot claim (represent himself) to be a citizen. This is a big mistake that can make him ineligible to stay in the US. The same as voting in elections while not being a citizen. Applying to become a citizen is not the same thing as claiming to be one. Check the box ‘no’
