Hello,

My mother in law is visiting us here in US on a visitor visa. We need to file for her to get Permanent residence before she heads back. She has a multiple entry visitor visa.

I went to the USCIS site to download appropriate forms and got really confused so thought to visit my trusted visa journey and get the real answers.

Please let me know which form to apply, it seems that my wife (US citizen now), can apply for I-130 along with I-864 (affidavit of support) for her, and then my mother in law can apply for I-485 (adjustment of status) even if she is gone back.

I am really confused by this process, please advise.

hello,

when my wife went for her biometrics appt, the office gave her a sample questions book which had the audio portion in the CD as well.

she used to listen to those questions in the CD (the same questions are in the book)....

the interviewer asked the questions from the book and CD....

these are also available in the USCIS site, AKA sample 100 questions...

if you review and memorize them for the interview you will be all set.....

hi Flsusi,

I remember when my wife went to get her biometircs taken, the office gave her a nice printed book with a CD of sample questions....

she would pop that CD in her car and listen to it during her commute to work....

don't know if you got that book with CD of sample questions....

if you review them a few times, you will have no problem during the interview...

I concur with Ant + D

you can apply 3 years minus 90 days from the date your became the citizen.....

There is a lot of info here on the items you need to send in in support of your application, however if you have any doubt, feel free to ask and we can help by providing info from our own journeys.

that is to say we are not lawyers tp give legal advise of any sort, but can at least help by guiding you in the right direction.

hello,

one of my friends got the ticket a day before the oath ceremony date, it was not a problem, he simply declared it to the officials at the oath ceremony. They told him to send them a copy of the payment receipt once it is paid, he was allowed to participate in the ceremony without any issues.

babonsi, have you received your certificate back yet? What is the status update for your situation?

Unfortunately, I might be one of those cases where there is no resolution, despite the countless wasted hours spent on the phone with every possible screwed up government agency (ha, do I sound like a US citizen now?) Nobody seems to know where my certificate is.

I have called the Passport information center at least 1/2 dozen times, they reported it to the passport agency in San Francisco and told me I would be contacted directly by the SF agency at some point (which still hasn't happened - and the only way to contact them is by writing a letter since they do not take calls ???). I have filed numerous claims with anyone & everyone possible. I spoke with our local postal office, they reported it to our carrier who was supposed to double-check every single empty mail receptacle in our subdivision for possible misplacement, since our neighborhood is still being developed and there are quite a few unassigned mail receptacles. Nothing came out of that. I made my way up to the delivery supervisor, he wasn't able to tell me anything I hadn't heard countless times already.

All I know at this point is that my certificate was in fact mailed out on Sept 16th, same day as my passport. After that, no one is willing to assume responsability. USPS wants a tracking number, which I obviously don't have since the pasport agency mails out the certificates first class, just like any other piece of junk! The passport agency says they mailed the certificate on 9/16 and it's out of their hands. All I got is apologies, regrets and "I understand, ma'm" ...

So when all is said and done, I will simply have to cough up another $380 in order to file for a certificate replacement and pay for someone else's incompetence. How f*cked up is that?

Sorry for my rambling, pretty frustrated at this point. And to think we were THIS close to be completely done dealing with all this.

Hope everyone else gets their stuff ok, with no problems. This is not fun at all.

It is my personal opinion but I would collect all facts and figures and send them out to the CIS informing them of the mail lost containing the certificate and press them to issue you a certificate no charge. Your one big proof is your passport that states that certificate was in fact sent to the passport agency.

When I got my certificate about a decade ago, the CIS misspelled my name wrong and then asked me to pay for the replacement, I called in the few people at CIS and finally got the fix for free.

I would say it is worth the try before having to pay for passport agency's incompetence, a doc of this importance should never be in transition over ordinary snail mail. Call up your house rep and senators, and ask for their help as their "new" constituent and one that will likely/not likey vote for them in the next election....
