  1. Tygrys i actually thought you'd received your wife's oath letter today since we were interviewed the same day and we both have been approved. I understand for different district offices the processing times depends on the bulk of applications. But within the same office, that i don't understand and you're right it's one of USCIS' mysteries. Well anyway you should be receiving your wife's oath letter anytime now.

Congrats Osen74, I have my oath this Friday too! We are the first two to get Oath ceremonies.kicking.gif

  2. Hi everyone,

I think I'll be the first person on here to naturalize. I got a phone call from my local office telling me that my Oath ceremony is scheduled for this Friday the 19th at 10:00 am. So so happy!goofy.gifdancin5hr.gifluv.gifgood.gifsmile.png . They said they didn't even bother to send me an oath letter since it was cutting it too close. Best wishes to all with pending applications. I love the USA so much and I am so glad to become a citizen!!.

  3. Sad to hear your story. Your ex will most likely still get her residency status. I guess USCIS follows orders and laws at the time of giving a benefit more than anything. I think in giving her residency status they must look up whether or not the marriage was not a sham. But can't say you did not try right? The major concern here is your daughter. Noone can take your daughter away from you if you are a great father. If one day it comes to your ex coming back to haunt you to get the baby back, use all your proof of adultery while pregnant at the court, plus mention the length of times she did not come to see her daughter. Plus any bad stuff you could get about her(private investigator) sleeping around with different men.

What the courts look at is, who is the better fit parent to look after the child. You are.

And most importantly, her lack of child support payments. They cannot take your daughter away.

  6. The requirement is that she is a resident of the US, maintaining her resident status by actually living here. It is obvious that is not the case. Spending six months or more outside the US in any year will raise suspicions and cause problems when she files for citizenship. Spending an entire year or more at a time outside the US is a totally different story, she will have big problems.

Thank you Mimolicious for your reply,

So what do you suggest? Obviously, she is no longer staying more than a few months when traveling overseas every year from now on, but my question is when do you think it will be safe for her to try and apply(given the lengthy stays outside the country no longer happen) in a year? In five more years?

  7. Hello,

My mom is a US resident and has been a resident for 7years. She has lived at least 30 months in this country as required. However, she has spend more than 6 months at a time outside this country and she returned 2 months ago after a year spent outside this country. To tell the truth, she probably has spent the same amount of time in both countries. 6 months herem 6 months there. The problem is, will staying more than six months up to a year outside the country disrupt the continuous residency? I really dont want to shell out 680 dollars on her application getting denied. Please help!

  8. Very sorry to hear how this went. Have you heard anything since your interview? Good luck to you! Hope you hear good news.

    Hi,

Can anyone please help me. My mother has been a resident for 7 years and is thinking about becoming a citizen, however, she has been out of the us a long time. She returned back 2 months ago from her home country but she stayed over a year. Does this disrupt her continious residency? I really do not want to shell out 680 dollars to her her applicatio denied. please help?

  9. We arrived at the Indianapolis office at approx 0930. There were quite a few people waiting when we got there. Went through the usual bag check etc. Checked in at the window where the lady took my interview letter. Sat and waited. Got called right at 1000 which is my appt time. Officer went through the application with me, name, address, etc. After this was done, he said test time. I gave a sigh and he said dont worry it will be easy.

How many years do we vote a president for?

What is 1 of the longest river?

Who is the speaker of the house?

What do we call the first 10 amendments to the Constitution?

When was the Declaration of Independence adopted?

He only asked me 5 questions, had me read, Abraham Lincoln was the president during the civil war and then had me write the same. He had me sign the papers to change my name, sign another paper that showed all my info is correct. Then handed me a sheet that said congratulations I passed and recommended for approval. Told me to wait for the oath letter in the mail and do I have any questions for him? I said did I pass? He said yes, smiled and said I gave you the sheet of paper right? I thought to myself DUH! lol

I lugged in with me a huge bag full of my original docs submitted for the N400. I told him I wasnt sure what to bring so I brought everything. He laughed and said thats good, that they prefer more than less because it makes it easier for them. He walked me out and wished me a nice day.

WHEW!!!! Now its just a waiting game for the oath letter...... =)

  10. Hi claudiaarroyo49, congrats! I would like to know if they asked you the original birth certificate of your husband. I can't find my hubby's orig bc. I only have a copy.

    Hi,

I did not file on the 3 year rule. I filed under the five year rule, so there were no husband questions. About the birth certificate I think the copy should be fine, unless you can somehow obtain an original before your interview, but I would not stress it too much. They might already have all that information and not ask you for it anyways. I went to the interview prepared with a bulk of documents and the IO did not ask for any at all. She had documents from the time I came into this country.

  11. Thank you will definitely need all the luck since I have a feeling I will be one of the last ones sad.png

I saw in the March 2013 files, an Atlanta filed on 03/05/2013 and just got their interview later for mid-July. Now since I filed end of April, I won't probably interview until Sept-Oct and oath will be Nov or Dec....ughhh

Dont give your hopes up so soon, mine went really fast. You never know. Hopefully you'll get it soonerClockWatch2.gif

  12. Hi Everyone,

Just letting everyone know I passed my interview today. I was asked 6 civics questions and was asked general questions about the application. The IO was serious at first but she loosened up after a while. She gave me a letter of approval and I just have to wait for my oath ceremony.

  13. Hi Group

I did not received an email nor a text. I just checked in my status in the web site with my application number and I read that my case was in line for an interview. That's the way I knew it.

More than a week has passed by since my Biometrics and have not received any letter to my mail yet. I know it says that there is a 90 days window for me to have the letter but I was wondering why its taking too long. Maybe nerves playing tricks on me.

Good luck to the ones going to interviews in this upcoming weeks

    Hi,

If it has only been a week after bio you should be ok. I got my appointment notice two weeks after bio, but it also depends greatly on your local office.

  14. Thanks Azure30 for keeping us updatedsmile.png

  15. Hello!

First of all congrats to everybody else for everything!!! One by one we are getting this done right? Yesterday I got my Oath Ceremony Appt. It's going to be on June 20! I am so happy about it. Does anybody know if you can have some friends with you there at the Ceremony? Do they allow that?

    Hi CorinanN,

I am so glad you got your oath app. My interview date in San Juan is on the 19th. Are you going to have your oath at the field office or at a court? Also, when I went to my sister's ceremony there were a total of 6 people friends and family who attended. I am sure you can bring friends and family too. Just as long as you dont overcrowd the place lol.smile.png wish me good luck on my interview. Congrats!

  16. Received my interview letter today, June 20, 2013.

I do have a question if anyone could please advise/help, the letter states to bring the interview letter, green card, and this baffles me...."Your passport and/or any other documents you used in connection with any entries into the United States."

I have not been out of the US since I arrived on my K-1, would my passport suffice? Being OC as I am, I am almost tempted to bring my K-1 packets along with the AOS, ROC and N400....lol

Please advise, and thanks in advance.

Just bring anything you have that indicates travel outside the US or into. If you dont have anything just let them know. I think they mainly want to know your time outside the US since you became resident. But you should bring everything or anything you have just in case.

  17. The USCIS officer at our naturalization ceremony specifically said not to laminate the certificate because it would invalidate it. She said it would be very expensive to replace if it was laminated. She also said the certificate wasn't valid until there was the naturalized citizen's signature on it too. :-)

That's great. I can imagine a lot of people not knowing that and making that mistake. It should be mandatory for all officers to make sure they let everyone being naturalized know that. I remember being at my sister's ceremony, they never mentioned it. But I also remember that someone applied for a passport with a laminated certificate and they had their passport without problems. But it's best to be safe indeed. When I get mine I'll put it on a fireproof safe and inside a plastic sheet.
