  1. Hi VJ

I am currently waiting to hear back from the Embassy regarding my K1 interview. I work(ed) in Education, and at the moment, the school holidays are underway and due to my contract, I do not get paid for holidays - thus rendering me sort of unemployed.

I was hoping to be ready to fly out to the U.S by the end of August, but I have a feeling it is not going to happen (I recently saw a post from a U.K member who got their interview date the other day - it was for the 15th Septemeber :S).

So my question is, whilst waiting for an interview, am I allowed to apply for another job to earn some money? The thought of being unemployed for 6-8 weeks is a bit worrying, what with emigrating and getting married. Would I need to inform the embassy seeing as they wanted to know all my past employment information?

    Thank-you

  2. I put that my fiance and I wanted to be married in the last week of August because my family work in Education. I probably should have put an exact date in retrospect but I was worried about being chastised during the AOS because we haven't booked anything or made plans in concrete. You might be right though, they might have logged my case as non-urgent. I will wait patiently ;).

  3. hehe, thanks Anna! I did call them last week and they said that it all looks 'ready to be scheduled', but the adviser on the end of the phone didn't mention my DS-2001. Do they log that and update CEAC?

I had my medical on the 5th July, sent the DS-2001 on the 11th of July and it was signed for (I sent it recorded delivery) on the 12th July. No updates on CEAC since the 10th July. Feeling so impatient!

  4. I am so confused about the breast exam thing. I did not have one. Some ladies do. I thought it might be an age thing (older ladies being more regularly screened etc. as breast cancer rates go up with age) but that doesn't seem to be holding true (you look pretty young from your photo, Emmy smile.png I'm 30). I did get the quick (nanosecond) peak down the top of my knickers.

I don't necessarily care that they do them - but it does bother me that it's not equally applied, because if they're not checking everyone, then what's the point?

lost_at_sea, I totally agree with you. I think the fact that the checks are inconsistent are a little concerning and like you said, there's no point to them! She chastised me a little when I told her I don't regularly check them. I then told her it runs in my family (women over 50 though) and she told me not to worry about getting breast cancer because of that reason(I'm 25)! I didn't quite get the point of that but hey ho.

  5. Portlandia, sorry to hear yours was a stressful experience. I had mine on the 5th of July and it was pretty non-invasive. She did do a breast exam but did not have a peek downstairs, even though I had braced myself for that part! Did anyone else get their blood tests results in the mail?

  6. Hi all! We sent in packet 3 June 16th and still no interview date sad.png We emailed them 7 days ago and haven't heard back. Is this normal? I did check the CEAC and it said the status was updated yesterday. Hopefully thats a good thing!

Immigrant Visa Case Number: LNDXXXXXXXXXX Case Creation Date: 07-Jun-2013 Status Updated Date: 15-Jul-2013

Amber, I have a similar timeline to you. I think your status being updated on the 15th is a good thing! I hope you get your interview date soon!

Also, I second encoding your case number.

  7. Ignore them. That phone line say '6 weeks' for everything. They told me '6 weeks' every time I phoned them and they were not correct. They told me that I was unlikely to make my wedding date of 12 July and yet I had my visa in my hand on 25 June (and flew on 27 June).

You will get better information from phoning DOS.

If you want to try to push the Embassy for a date, phone the extortion line again and beg them fir the all important code to be able to e-mail the Embassy direct. tell them that you have set a wedding date and need to try to get an early interview.

Thank-you for your reassuring words :). Do you mind me asking when you sent your DS-2001 in? On the cover letter I told them that we hadn't set an official date yet , but that we wanted to marry in the third week of Aug due to my family working in Education (school holidays and whatnot) and wanting to be there. I'm worried that if I ring up and beg that they will know I haven't put that date on my cover letter ( I think this is my Catholic education coming out - I can't lie, hahaha!).

It's worrying that they treat people just like a number. You were also so right about the people at the Embassy sounding like they read from a script!

  8. I am in the IR1 Visa process and plan to move to Champaign once we get the visas. I have a BA in language arts from a Brazilian college. I'm wondering what the job market is like in Champaign especially for foreigners. I'm willing to start with jobs that aren't in my area, I just want to know if I will most likely be able to find some find of work. My English is good, but I'm not fluent.. What do you think? What kind of tips would you give for someone in my situation?

I am also moving to the Champaign area, hopefully in late Aug/Sept :). From job searching online I would say job prospects are good. Are language arts foreign languages? If you speak English pretty fluently and have other languages under your belt then I would say that makes you pretty employable. What type of things were you looking for? Have you considered getting your degree verified by an agency so employers will be able to see that your degree is equivalent to a U.S degree? Here's one I'm hoping to use once I'm over there: http://www.wes.org/

    Hope this helps.

  9. I'm sending off my DS2001 tomorrow. My medical was on Fri the 5th July but I had to wait because there was a chance of them requesting further information about a medical issue. Is it possible to put a hypothetical wedding date on the letter to get an interview faster? I really like to be over there ASAP.

Codie did you put a date on your letter?

  10. I understand it's difficult to make plans whilst going through the valley of Immigration and so this is a bit of lighthearted fun biggrin.png.

Those who are already married, feel free to post - it'd be great to hear all about it.

As for us? We were originally going to have a medium sized wedding (around 50-60 people) at a formal venue with a cake, food and cheesy music, but alas, savings just do not stretch that far! So, we have decided on a small civil ceremony at a courthouse (just immediate family present) in his town( we were planning on getting married in Indiana, where his parents are because at that time he was moving around places a lot but he is now in one spot) and a meal at a nice restaurant and we are still planning on having a cake. I'm actually pretty happy with this - I was getting stressed about planning a wedding when I don't have an exact date (we are waiting for me to be allocated an interview) that I would arrive in the U.S. Our small wedding is a much simpler and hassle free event to plan and can be arranged at short notice.

What is everyone else planning on doing?
