  1. You have no need for a lawyer..

It is pretty straightforward. just follow the instructions and you should be fine. If you have any questions, search on here for answers as someone probably has had that very same issue. If thats not the case, ask a question. The people on here will be very happy to help.

You could print three versions to fill out. two for you and one to keep your three year old busy goofy.gif

  2. Thanks for the kind words, guys.

As I promised, I'm writing about our (pretty unusual) experience.

My interview was scheduled for August 30, but later canceled by uscis and rescheduled for September 30. Unfortunately (or fortunately), we already booked our hotel in DC (we live 2 hours away from there and we wanted to go to NYC after). So we decided to go either way, especially because I read scary stories about people not showing up for the interview and getting denied afterwards. However, I was nervous because the situation was very vague, so I made my husband call to uscis. They didn't know anything (of course) and they didn't give away the number for our DC office. So... we found it on YELP smile.png We explained to the guy on the phone about our situation with the hotel, he wrote done my a# and application number. In 20 minutes we got a call from another guy (I think it was our uscis officer) who said that they will conduct interview on August 30!

The rest was very easy. We were interviewed on time, the building was almost empty. The interview lasted around 20 min, he asked standard questions, plus about my school (I came on a student visa and am in a PhD program here). He didn't tell us about his decision right away, but I got a text from uscis 15-20 min after the interview.

I'm still not sure about what happened with this cancellation thing, but I'm very happy with the way things turned out. Good luck all!

    Congrats again 0lechka

EAD arrived just now! dancin5hr.gif Exciting, but I think I am going to wait until I get my green card to apply for a SSN. September 11th cannot come fast enough!!! ClockWatch2.gif

September 12th for me. shooosh! ClockWatch2.gifClockWatch2.gifClockWatch2.gifClockWatch2.gif

  3. Hey guys! My EAD has just been mailed! But now I am debating on whether or not I should wait to go get my SS card until after I get my green card (interview Septemeber 11th) to avoid having to remove conditions on my SS. What do you think? What are you guys doing? If you have a SS with conditions, how long do you have I get them removed? And what if you go get a drivers license? Ugh I just want to be done!!!!

Oh! And how did some of you track your EADs? I didn't get any tracking information. How long did it take to arrive after it was mailed?

I wouldve done that too, but i needed to get my name on the documents so signify joint ownership and stuff.

And you will receive another email that provides the tracking number.

  4. So, Will, it seems the general consensus here is that if you want to enjoy the same rights and privileges as the roaming English teachers, backpackers and online bride seekers who scooped up a barely literate alien girl and managed to get her to the US to gain citizenship, then you need to sacrifice your career, quit your well-paying overseas job helping Americans have access to affordable products , and go back and live in the US, hopefully not unemployed or flipping burgers. After 3 years of that, you may possibly gain the right to resume your expatriate career with your beloved wife,as well as the right to travel freely, and no longer be accused of "gaming the system." Good luck with that. devil.gif

    Ha ha ha.

  5. Sorry, I forgot about taking also the offer letter.

@up, we already establish that. smile.png If I had to travel in that situation, i.e. emergency, I would take that risk. Life is risky. smile.png

I have been thinking, if it is PWC, they have branches everywhere. Maybe they can "store" her in her country till next October if she gets rejected? Maybe L1?smile.png

I dont think she will like that.. as she just got a condo leased for one year and is already working.

thanks guys, keep the ideas coming. I will keep passing them along.

Im sure she isnt the only one who is in this situation. its quite tricky.

  6. okay so what i got after everything is..

    1) She can travel on OPT, since the OPT is like an extension to the F-1.

    2) She needs to get her new i-20 stamped before leaving the country.

    3) She should talk to employers legal dept to see what her options are/for the right way to get it done.

    Correct?

  7. im sorry, your answer is not very clear for me or her.

Right now, she is in between visas, her F-1 expired and she has not received her H-1 yet. all she has is her OPT which clearly states that it is not for re-entry. She does have a valid i-20. she says it comes with the new opt

Are you saying she can still travel as it is? dont you need a visa to enter the country? Can an advanced parole document be used in this situation? or does the OPT serve as an extension to the F-1?
