  1. Hello:

Hoping someone may be able to assist or provide clarity. My wife currently has a approved 10 year green card as of last year. The only thing left is to apply for dual citizenship. If we were to move to her country for say 2-3 years to have a child and she did not apply for dual citizenship, what would happen to her green card? Has anyone moved to their significant others countries before? We would eventually come back to the USA. Is there a form to fill out that  allows it? My wife is from Sweden and I am American. Thanks for any assistance!

  2. Hello:

My wife in December (2017) successfully removed the conditions and was approved  for 10 years. Our next step is to apply for US citizenship as long as her Swedish citizenship is still recognized (which I believe that is the case).  The main reason to apply is that we would no longer have any issues if we ever chose to live outside the US at a point in our lives.

Can anyone please help with the following questions below:
    - What is the current  time-frame it will take once we submit the forms needed before she were to take the test, etc? She is very busy at work and is worried about studying for the citizenship test.

    - We live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin so I am not sure if that matters or not in terms of the local immigration office, etc.

    - Does anyone know the overall costs it will take from start to finish for applying for US citizenship?

Thank you all very much in advance for your time and assistance!

  3. Hello Everyone:

When my wife and I got married, I told her that someday I would live in her country too for a few years. As I am sure with many people here, she dearly misses her family and friends. I often feel so guilty of the sacrifices she made to come here. She currently has a 10 year green card and is contimplating applying for citizenship and have dual citizenship later this year since we have been married four years.

Does anyone know if we can leave the US for a couple years at some point in the future and live in Sweden with no issue or do we have to start the entire green card process over if we came back the US?

I was hoping the dual citizenship  for her would allow that. Any tips, suggestions, etc is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  4. It was bizarre. Neither the postal office or USCIS would take ownership of losing it. We were caught in the middle without a green card. The USCIS said on their end they sent it. Once it leaves their office it is on the postal office. The post office said it was not their fault and shows it was delievered. I spoke to many individuals and all said we had to repay and go through the process again. There was zero way either would pay. Faulty system at it's core. The best thing is we just received the replacement card last night ending this 19 month wait!

  5. Hello:

My wife finally got an update saying her I-90 replacement green card was being produced on Friday, December 1. We have been waiting since February 2017 to receive a I-90 replacement green card and February 2016 since we originally sent in the paperwork before her first card was lost/not received.

Given the waiting, we are anxiously awaiting when the USCIS indicates the card will be mailed... We are hoping and praying that we receive the replacement green card this time since overall it has been 19 months total since the first card did not arrive in our mailbox!

Does anyone know how long the screen changes to mailed after produced? I have seen anything from 7-14 business days or longer. To make things worse, we are leaving to go to Sweden to visit my wife's family and friends through January 1st for the Holidays.

She has a temporary travel stamp to travel for a year so hopefully that will be allowed to come back into the US since we will not be home. What will happen if the green card arrives when we are gone? We already had this trip booked for four months. The best case is it arrives before we leave on December 15. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you in advance,

    Brian

  7. Hey:

Thanks for your message and very sorry to hear that you are also experiencing the same situation. We continue too wait. We get texts indicating no status update. We are now waiting six months for the replacement card. Has anyone heard or received a status update? Again, we sent the I-90 in early February. Crazy how long this process takes.

    Thanks!

  8. Hello Visa Journey Members:

    I hope everyone is well.

It has been a long road to obtain the removal of conditions on my wife's green card. Last April (2016), we submitted the I-751 to remove the conditions for 10 years. We received an update in late November (2016) finally that it was approved and the card was to be delivered. We were ecstatic.

Long story short, the card never arrived to our mailbox. Distraught, upset, etc., the USCIS said they could do nothing for us. The postal service could do nothing for us besides giving me a letter indicating it could have been misplaced in another mailbox since we live in a multi unit apartment building.

We waited until early February (2017) hoping it would turn up or would be sent back to the USCIS office. It never arrived. We contacted our local congresswoman's office but they were not able to assist and informed us to submit the 1-90 form and payment once again.

Obviously, it was greatly disheartening and mind boggling that they do not provide tracking numbers, etc. I would gladly pay $200 to do so but it is not an option nor having it delivered to our local USCIS. We sent in the I-90 in early February (2017), saw shortly after that they cashed the check and my wife had her biometrics screening in early April (2017). For the past month plus, we have not had any updates.

Has this occurred to anyone else regarding the I-90 or having it lost/stolen? Do you know roughly when we should expect to receive the replacement card if we filed in February 2017 again for a replacement? It is frustrating since they approved her, indicated everything was sufficient and all is needed is the card! Trying to remain positive in a far too rigged and complex process. Thanks for your time and assistance in advance!

  9. Hello:

I am hoping the fine people on here can offer some some help and advice on what to do in our situation. We got wonderful news last night that my wife's 10 year green card renewal was approved. We have been waiting since early April 2016. The congratulatory letter was dated on November 28. However, the fun ended there...

We saw at the very bottom of the letter that if you plan to travel between now and the 60 days before the green card arrives, you may not be allowed to enter back into the United States. We are going to Europe to visit family during Christmas and New Years this year and have had the trip booked for six months. We went on infopass and scheduled and appointment to meet with the local immigration office on December 14 to try and get a temporary travel stamp in her passport. Is this possible?

Now the really fun part begins.... We currently live in an apartment building. After we got nervous about traveling for the holidays, it shows online for our case status that we were approved and the green card was already sent to us and delivered on November 25. How could this be when the letter is dated on November 28 and says it takes up to 60 days. We did not have anything in our mailbox and check everyday. We immediately called the USCIS and they have been of no help expect stating it was delivered and to speak to the local post office.

The USPS site says it was delivered at 7:00pm on November 25. We always get our mail at 1:00pm each day. We called the postal office again and they said that they had a lot of workers sick and they outsourced the mail delivery that day, thus why it came later than normal. The woman on the phone said they did not know the neighborhood, it was dark and the mailboxes like the normal postal workers. So, basically it could be lost or not delivered to us properly. Again, it says delivered on the tracking sheet.

We called back USCIS with this information and they said they cannot do anything. The only thing is fill out an I-90 form and pay the $450 again and it will take eight months or longer to get a replacement card!?!?. What are our options? Any suggestions on what to do next? I feel like we have paid the $450 in good faith, done everything right, and waited eight months already for it to arrive.

This is beyond frustrating... Thank you for reading and again any assistance.

  10. Hello:

My wife has to remove the conditions on her resident card on July 2. We were planning on starting the process and paperwork for the I-751 and the accompanying documents this week so that we can put it in the mail certified on April 2, 90 days before it is due.

We had a couple questions that we hope you can answer.

We are planning on going to Europe from May 20-31 for vacation. Will we be able to travel still since her card is valid until July 2?

Do we need to get special approval to travel or expiate the process?

Also, her sister is graduating with her PHD in early October in Sweden. Again, will she be able to travel? We were hoping to buy plane tickets ASAP since there were plenty of deals. It sounds like it takes quite a few months to get approval or an extension.

Many thanks in advance for your time and help!

  11. Hello:

My wife and I filed her Form 1-485, Application to Register in late November, 2013. At the time the processing times for our local office were 4 months and now it shows 5.8 months. How long does it generally take to have your interview? We heard a couple months ago that there is a chance we may not have our interview due to processing times within the two year timeframe. Has anyone else had this issue? It is difficult waiting and not knowing what to do next. Perhaps this part is common. We did receive her employment authorization card and ability to travel. Thank you!

  12. Thank you. I have searched and have the exact same address that was provided on the envelope. The postal office returned the document and are equally as confused why it did not go thru. The return to address provided a different PO Box than is located anywhere on the internet and USCIS and I was wondering if anyone has recently had this issue with the I-865 to the Nebraska Service Center.

  13. Can anyone please tell me if the USCIS - Nebraska Service Center Address change? I sent a package to them and it was returned. I used the address that was provided on the USCIS and the return to sender had a different PO Box and zip code for them. I was curious if anyone has had any issues of late. The post office was confused and did not know what to do because my package had the address that was online. Thank you!

  14. Hello:

My wife and I recently moved. My wife completed and filed an AR-11 online with no problem. She received a confirmation #. After reviewing the details online, I was under the impression I had to file a I-865, Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address. Given we live in Wisconsin, I saw that we needed to send it to USCIS - Nebraska Service Center PO Box 87485 Lincoln, NE 68501-7485. I went to the USPS and they tracked the document.

I assumed everything was fine. Today when I stopped at home I had the package returned to sender. I double checked the address with the USCIS and they said the address was fine. I am lost what to do next as the form cannot be sent online. Has anyone else had this issue? Has the address changed? Thank you for your time and help!

  15. Hello:

My wife received her approved I-765 APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION EAD card in the mail yesterday! It feels great. It indicates she does not have conditions but says it is valid for one year.

We are still waiting for our I-485 interview to proceed.

On the USCIS website, our online status for Form I131, APPLICATION FOR USCIS TRAVEL DOCUMENT indicates on January 28, 2014, they mailed us a notice that we have approved this I131 APPLICATION FOR USCIS TRAVEL DOCUMENT. We still have not received this notice. Do they send you an actual card?

Given we are married, have a marriage license, her social security card and now EAD card, can we travel anywhere for our honeymoon and a return trip back to see her family in July? I am probably paranoid but do not want to jeopardize anything with our case.

Her new EAD card has my last name on it but her passport has her maiden name. The license and social security card also has her new last name. What do I book the plane tickets with her maiden name or my last name? We would like to finally plan our honeymoon, etc. Thank you very much for your time and help!

  16. Thank you and understood! We are going thru the K1 fiancé visa. My wife had her biometrics screening in mid December. We just received notification on the USCIS website that on Jan. 28 they mailed us a notice that they have approved our I131 application for travel document. We are still in initial review of our I485, application to register permanent status or adjust status. Today, USCIS indicated they would mail us a new card directly to our new address they have on file for our I765, application for employment authorization. Thanks again!

  17. Hello:

My wife and me would like to book flights back to her country for a July family reunion trip. I just checked our case status online and she has been approved to work but we are waiting to receive the card in the mail. The USCIS sent it to the wrong address, our previous address after we moved. They have been notified since of our current address. They also approved the travel component but we are waiting on the card as well. There is a really great deal for when we plan on traveling later this summer. Since we are married, do we book the flight with her new married last name or her maiden name in the passport? Obviously, we have our marriage license that we could provide. Thank you for your time and assistance.

  18. Hello:

My wife, who is from Sweden, does not currently have a drivers license or healthcare coverage. She has never driven a car before nor had a license in her home country. Has anyone here been in a similar situation? Are you required to take drivers ed school or because she is an adult she is not required? Also, has anyone had experience with healthcare.gov? I imagine she will get insurance once she starts working later this year and I already missed the cut off to add her on mine. We need to move quickly with an option as she will need to get refills on her medications in the next month or so. Thank you for any advice or personal experiences in these matters! Much appreciated!
