  1. The "Certificato di Nascita" reports only the date and the birthplace. The document you may need is the "Estratto di Nascita". It has the same information as the birth certificate and it also reports the names of the parents. And yes, it's a very simple piece of paper. You might want to take a look at this website that i found pretty useful when i was assembling all the documents for the interview:

    I hope this helps you!

  2. If her passport is under her maiden name, I would book using her maiden name so that the travel documents match the ID as they already suggested you. However she can have her spouse's last name added on her italian passport on page 6 (you don't say it but i guess she is an italian citizen). This way you don't need to carry a copy of your marriage certificate all the time. You just need to call the italian consulate that serves the area where you live and schedule an appointment. It takes a few minutes and they don't charge you anything. Good luck!

  3. The consulate of Naples seems to be more concerned about the petitioner's current income rather than the past one. Bring a letter of his employer stating his position and his salary, the most recent pay stubs, a copy of his contract and any other document that can prove he makes more than the poverty level and can support you. During my interview I was not even asked for the tax returns. For the personal properties we just did an estimate of the value of all the things my fiance owns and that he can prove he owns (i.e. the car). For the rest we had to put a lot of zeroes too! Check my reply to another topic concerning the co-sponsor. I hope it can be of some help.

  4. After you schedule the interview they'll send you a confirmation email that you have to print and bring to any branch of the BNL to pay the fee. In the email you will find the amount due for the fee.

I might be wrong but I have never read anywhere that debit cards are not accepted. In fact to schedule my interview on the phone I used a Postepay which is the equivalent of a debit card and it worked. The same for my husband who had to call once from the U.S. and he used a debit card. On the website it just specifies that the card you use must be a Visa or a MasterCard. Good luck!

  5. When my visa was approved I was told to pick it up the following day after 5 pm. It was actually issued 3 days after and i got it in the mail exactly one week after my interview. I think they tell everybody the same thing but apparently it is common that there is a delay in printing the visas and dropping them at the mail box location. Just to make sure I would wait to hold the visa in your hands before making travel plans. Good luck on your interview! wink.png

  6. Glad you managed to get your visa after all. It looks from your timeline you weren't really denied in the first place, but you had to go back for a second interview, is that right? How did you overcome the problem with the affidavit of support? It would probably be useful to know for other folks who have already started the K1 process and are going through Naples. Thank you! :)

No we got a flat denial after the first interview. However my fiance, who was already in the final stages of many interview processes, received a job offer the day after my interview! Since the circumstances had totally changed he asked his congresswoman and senator to help us and contact the consulate to convince them to reconsider our case before they sent back my petition. Well, it worked. The consul gave us further 90 days to schedule a second interview and overcome the first denial suggesting us that a job offer letter stating his job description and current salary would have been enough. The second time i brought his job offer letter, his contract, and the first pay stub and I was approved.

I don't know how common it is that a congressman/senator intervention helps turning a flat denial into a reconsideration of the case and eventually an approval. I also feel like we have been helped by a series of lucky events. Hence my suggestion is don't take the risk!

  7. I second a+j's answer. From my personal experience with the Naples consulate, don't even start the K1 visa process if you already know that the sponsor won't be working by the time of your interview. My fiance was looking for jobs when I had my interview in December. We are a young couple and we both have recently graduated just a few months ago, but the consul didn't seem to consider this as a justification. Even though we had his mom as a joint-sponsor we got a flat denial. What the consul told me during the interview is that they do accept joint-sponsors for K1 visas but only if the primary sponsor has a current income and makes at least 100% of the poverty line. If you think your sponsor won't be working for awhile just get married and apply for the CR1.

Our story has a happy ending, but I know what it means facing the shock of a denial after having spent so much money and time apart. That's why I hope that sharing my experience will prevent other couples from making the same mistake. Good luck!
