Congrats! Thanks for sharing your experience!

I have not seen many people applying from NY state and specially Holtsville, NY suffolk county long island.
I want to know little about holtsville DO, how backed up that is and any experiences .
Thanks.
Long Island's cool, don't worry.
Not crowded at all.

The reason why I am asking is, I cancelled my flight to Germany to visit my parents because of that letter. It drives me nuts. Now today I could take the flight to at least see them for a couple of days.
Well but what is if the letter returned to USCIS? Is this something that could prevent me from coming back to the US?
We all assume it's just the reminder to file for removing of conditions.
I need help because my brain is driving me nuts. The decision has to made in two hours if I go or not.
Why don't you just call and ask? That's what I would do instead of being all stressed out.
I called USCIS just once, before sending my ROC package and I was so scared!
. I couldn't believe how nice and helpful the lady was with me even though my question was pretty silly.
-
Ok, thank you for your answer, that makes me feel a little bit better, it is just that weird crazy feeling that I have since I don't know for sure what that letter is all about! It drives me so nuts and sometimes people say you better listen to what you feeling is saying!
I know, I was on a trip in my home country when I've received the same letter. I told my husband "just open it and read it for me right now! "
I still felt weird even after I've found out it's just that reminder.
Relax, what else can you do?
Have fun in your trip and good luck with your application!
-
Thank you so much for your answer.
The thing that makes me nervous is, that I am about to fly to Germany today for 9 days. Since I don't know what the heck is showing in that letter I don't feel comfortable.
What would you make in my situation.
Now when I just recalculated, my 90 days time frame opens on 11/11/2013 which is veterans day, so the US Postal Service is closed which means I can,t send the package, I would have to wait all the way to 11/18/2013 because I work when the postal service opens and I get off when the postal service closes. Don't know what to do and my tummy is hurting.
Should I rather cancel my flight? What would you guys do in my situation? I just also talked to my parents and they said do whatever is the best, they would be sad but do understand that this is important and they don't want me to have more to worry about.
I need to do the smart thing...not something just out of I want to see my family feeling!
You don't have to cancel your trip.
You can send your I-751 application anytime in the 90 days frame. I've sent my application 40 days before the 90 days would be up. And it was ok.

Thank you, AE& J. I was transferred on Sept 5th. Hopefully I can hear from them soon. Congrats again!
Best of luck, H and M, hope you'll get an email tomorrow!
I really wasn't expecting to hear anything about my petition for months after I saw it was transferred. And I was expecting a RFE or interview notice. Because usually nothing goes smoothly
-
Congrats, and it would be helpful to other if you post your timeline too, especially your transfer day.
Thank you
Thank you!
My timeline is posted, I don't know how to display it. My application was transferred from VSC to CSC on Sept. 4th. 2013

I just received the email below and I am stunned! My case was transferred to Ca and I was sure it will take forever to hear back from USCIS. At first I was actually concerned that it might be a mistake, but (hopefully) it's not. I checked their website also: it says the same thing.
It can't be a mistake, can it?
Many thanks VisaJourney!

Congrats for the approval!! And thank you for sharing your experience with us.

You read the instructions. If he divorced, he needs to send it immediately after the divorce, not 90 days before green card expiration.
Well, HE should read the instructions. I'm not divorced so I guess I skipped that part, therefore I'll try to remove my post so you can start jabbing someone else
-
I'm divorced and my green card is still valid for more than one year. I wanted to remove conditions on my GC.
I already sent the package exactly 13 days ago. I haven't received any response from uscis yet.
What's gonna happen? Someone told me they're gonna send me the package back bc my green card is still valid!!!
But I'm divorced!! Is that right?? And that there's no waiver for I-175 fee that I sent along with the package!!
I'm really confused!
Thanks
You can send I-751 "Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence" to USCIS 90 days before your GC expires, can't send it earlier. Read the instruction for the form.

Hello everybody!
Really need the advice of VJ family. I got my green card based on CR-1 vise. Though it is valid till 2023 I do believe that it is conditional green card. I am supposed to travel with my husband .
My question is can it affect the re-entry to the US. We have already have spent two weeks and a half in Asia in August-September. So i used my green card at the order . And I will be in Europe for a month in September to the middle od October.
Do I need any other re-entry permit document just in case?
Thank you in advance!
If you have a GC valid until 2023 it is NOT a conditional GC. You have to renew your green card every ten years unless you apply for citizenship.
A conditional GC is valid for 2 years only, not 10.

Hi there,
We will be putting our I-751 package in the mail next week, and I have a quick question about the (minimum) 2 sworn affidavits:
Must they be notarized? The template I found on this website has a section for a Notary Seal and signature, etc. but is this absolutely necessary? It might be tricky getting our friends/relatives to a notary before our application has to go in the mail.
Thanks in advance for any info!
This is from USCIS page: "Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least 2 people who have known both of you since your conditional residence was granted...." http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-751instr.pdf
Hope this helps!

I think on the USCIS website it says "sworn affidavits". We got our 2 affidavits notarized and we actually had 2 from each person, in case they get lost.

Just FYI, a lot of June filers got the same email and case update. Then a few days later, we received a letter saying that it was transferred to CSC.
VSC is overwhelmed. There's a lot of information about that here on the VJ site. Check out those two threads:
June filers:

Transfer to local field office:
No need to worry yet
Thank you guys! I wasn't sure what's going on
-
true and hope they don't. because some of mine were lost and it wasn't even moved to a field office
Oh, that sucks....sometimes I'm "lucky" like that, I got used to it
I just want to get it over with! Like everybody else....
Congrats on your approval!
-
It looks like you filed in June. Some of the June applicants are either getting moved to CSC or to a Local Office for further processing. Local Offices can also undertake regular processing. Hence it doesn't mean interview is your next step. Generally one gets a RFE before his case goes for an interview.
Yeah, that's what I thought: usually you get an RFE and then an interview appointment if your response is not satisfying.
Thank you for clarifying this for me, I had no idea they just move applications from one office to another. Hope they don't lose any while moving them around.

Hi everyone,
I just received this email about my I-751:
"On September 4, 2013, we transferred your CRI89, PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED, to your local USCIS Office for further processing. The new office has jurisdiction over your case and will send you a decision as soon as processing is complete or you will be notified if further information or action is needed. If you move, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address."
My question is: is this what usually happens with I-751 applications ? Or, if an application is transferred to a local office it means that an interview appointment will be the next thing?
Thankk you!

Our documents left the NVC on the 19th for the embassy and we haven't heard anything yet. Do you guys think we should start contacting them or give them a few more days??
All advice is welcomed.... since its free.
Wish i would have known about this site before we started.
Join the club...of people hating their lawyer!
I also wish I knew about this site when we sent the AOS application! Would saved lots of nerves and a few thousands!
-
RFE is not a big deal. Sometimes a good applications do get RFEs and a few not so loaded ones get approved just like that.
Yes it is very important for us, who are the recipients, but for the guy who is reviewing it is a routine thing. Not all our figures are equal and so are those reviewers, so it light.
There is no need to go to lawyer and waste your money. Just send the documents asked for in time and that should do for almost 90% of the cases. The worst case is an interview, which is also not bad except that it causes inconvenience but as long as the marriage is genuine everyone got through the interviews pretty well.
Yeah, you're totally right, specially about the lawyer. We had a lawyer for the AOS and dealing with him was soooooooo frustrating! He didn't even come for our AOS interview, he sent some young bozzo who was late (and useless) so we lost our place in line.
My husband wanted to go to him again, for the I-751 application but I said " There's no way I'm going to that jerk again, I rather donate those money for charity"
I don't know what else can I send if I get an RFE, I've sent pretty much everything, from house deed, car title+insurance, joint taxes, joint bank accounts, 401k, life insurance, medical insurance, utility bills, affidavits and so on..
Yeah, I'm a very stressed person, sorry
. You don't want to see me taking my pets to the vet when they're sick
-
That's weird, that you've got an RFE, your application seem pretty "complete".
We sent almost the same documents that you did, but we don't have/want kids. So now I'll expect to receive an RFE because we don't have children...That is ridiculous!
You've sent 2 affidavits and they asked for more? I thought they don't care about affidavits in the first place. I've also included just 2 in my application.
Oh well, if we get an RFE with some ridiculous demands, we'll just go to a lawyer.
In your case, seems you got that RFE just because someone had a crappy coffee in the morning or a bad day and really wanted to ruin someone else's day.
Good luck!

So I had to bring out my social security card from the "secure" location it's being in since sometime in 2010 and it says on it "FOR WORK ONLY"
I got the card during my F1-OPT period and am now going through the process of ROC.
Is there anything I need to do? Is that designation still appropriate? I believe I will eventually naturalize in a couple of years, so I was wondering if I need to eventually contact SSA to have anything modified or removed. Thanks all
I think you have to get it replaced, that's what I did after I received my GC. I got my social security card while I was adjusting status, after I received my Employment Authorization Card and it said something like that: "for work with DHS authorization only". After I received my GC I went to SSA and replaced it.You'll have the same number but without any restriction written on the card.
Good luck!
Have you received your ASC appointment yet?
Naturalization Interview in Holtsville, NY

Thank you for sharing your experience, I will also have my naturalization interview in Holtsville.
I had my AOS interview there, 3 years ago, I remember it was pretty easy, it's not crowded like other offices and people are pretty nice with you.
Congratulations on you naturalization, did you had the oath ceremony also or you have to wait for an appointment?
