I apologize for digging this thread back up, but my wife is entering the US on her CR1 visa in two weeks.
We have a compliance letter from Mazda, the manufacturer of her vehicle, detailing out that the car is EPA certified and the other requirements. She also has her title showing ownership of the car.
Is there anything else she will need to bring with us to the border to import the vehicle as of September 2014? We know there will be paperwork involved, but we aren't sure if that is something that needs completed prior to her making arriving at the border to activate the visa.
She's going to put together a list of her belongings that she'll be traveling with in her car as well, if that makes any difference.
I've attempted to call her POE numerous times, but the line just rings without anyone answering. We're so close to being together after two years of being married and apart that we don't want to risk anything being wrong.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Thanks for the clarification, everyone! We really appreciate it.

Hello all-
I've been searching and have had little luck in getting a clear answer.
How long are medical examinations valid for Canadian immigrants?
My wife completed her exam in Montreal and we were just wanting to confirm when that expires. Long story short, we needed to renew her passport and send it back to the consulate after our (approved) interview and that took a while. They finally issued the CR1 visa and it's in transit back to Loomis for pick up.
Thanks in advance!

Sadly it's a normal occurrence at the NVC to call, get jammed phone lines, finally get through, and then hold for 45 minutes only to be told they can't answer your question and to speak with an immigration lawyer.
But they get awards for customer service...makes sense, right?

My wife's interview was this morning and she is APPROVED!
Thank you to everyone for the guidance and help!!

Hello everyone, I was finishing up gathering up all of our original documents and I created a checklist/coversheet to make it easier for my wife to organize for her interview in Montreal. I wanted to share the coversheets with you all in hopes you could double check my work to make sure we have everything:
AOS Coversheet
1. Form I-864, signed and dated.
2. Tax Documentation
a. 2011 IRS Tax Transcript
b. 2012 IRS Tax Transcript
c. 2013 IRS Tax Transcript
i. 2013 W2 Form
ii. 2013 1099-INT
iii. 2013 Form 1040A
3. Employment verification letter
4. Paystubs dated 11/16/2013-4/15/2014
IV Coversheet
1. IV and Alien Registration Application Confirmation.
2. Printed version of Online IV and Alien Registration Application (DS-260)
3. Scanned photocopy of biographic page from passport
4. Birth Certificate
5. Police Certificate
6. Marriage License and Certificate
7. Divorce Decree
a. Certified English Translation
b. Original document
8. 2 Passport style photos
She will, of course, bring her actual passport along with the P4 letter and Loomis confirmation with her.

Congrats! It's really encouraging to see successes like this!

hey everyone,
We had our interview today and guess what? We were approved!!
Congrats!

But my husband already filed his tax as single? Is there any way to correct it? I just read that it could be a red flag if its not properly filed ?
I believe the 1040X is what you can file to amend his tax return. He should do it ASAP and then file MFS or MFJ depending on what he wants to do (and if you have an ITIN or not).
I filed MFS this year (and last year) and hand wrote everything including writing 'NRA' for the spouse tax ID field due to my wife not having an ITIN.

NEEDS
Are you referring to the I-864?
To be able to use the I-864EZ for you have to meet ALL of the following criteria or you will have to use the standard I-864:
- You filed a Form I-130 petition for your relative, and
- there is only one applicant on the Form I-130 petition, and
- all your qualifying income comes from a salary or pension and shows one or more W-2 Forms that you receive
-
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think you will only get more money if you file MFJ. MFS is the same as filing single in terms of money. Your husband can correct it by amending his tax when you get to U.S and have a ssn and then get more money.
MFS is the same as far as tax bracket goes, but when you file MFS you lose a lot of the credits you would otherwise be eligible for such as student loan interest.
MFS sucks, but it is what a lot of us have to do to stay legal with the IRS.

For the AOS supporting documentation package I sent my W2 and form 1099-INT along with a copy of my 1040A, because I had not received back my return at the time. Now our case is complete.
That said, I forgot to make a copy of my form 1040A so I don't have the original, but I do now have a copy of my tax transcript for 2013. Do you think the transcript will be sufficient to provide to my wife for the interview?
-
congrats to you and your family! It's really encouraging to see success stories like this.

Guys/gals,
Here is my dilema...I haven't filed my taxes for 2013 yet. My wife's interview is may 16th. If I file my taxes as a single i owe IRS $1000+ and If i file married jointly (Putting her as a NRA) I'm getting a return of $5000+. Can I get away with filing jointly? I sent out the extension requests for the taxes today.
I don't believe you can legally file jointly without your spouse having an ITIN. You'd have to file for the ITIN or file 'Married filing separately' and then use NRA for her tax ID.

My wife got her case complete and P4 letter last night indicating her interview date at the Montreal consulate. May 21st is the big day!
-
please help received my interview letter and in the necessary document there was
1 - IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION PART 1 R
1 - IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION PART 2 R
what are this two documents ?
R means you filled out the application online. They're your DS260, the IV application.

My wife and I also got a checklist for the birth certificate. We had submitted the long form certificate and didn't understand what was missing or wrong with it. We called the NVC and they said they saw the certificate on the case and they would forward it to a supervisor to review.
Long story short: It may be worth a call to the NVC to have them explain exactly what was wrong.
-
The petitioner has to meet the following criteria completely to use the EZ form. If you go through all three of them does your petitioner meet the criteria? If not then the petitioner should use the I-864 form.
"All three of the following are true:
- You filed a Form I-130 petition for your relative, and
- there is only one applicant on the Form I-130 petition, and
- all your qualifying income comes from a salary or pension and shows one or more W-2 Forms that you receive"
-
Wouldn't the spouse losing coverage from her home country constitute a change of status and allow for the addition of the spouse to the insurance plan? That's my wife and I's plan after she gets here.
-
Sorry for the misinformation! I thought I had seen other people submit directly after the enroll email was sent.
-
Was your case approved at NBC or elsewhere? When did NVC receive your case? When was the case number assigned? In your signature, when you say you sent documentation for the DS-260, do you mean the IV package? When was the DS-260 completed online?
Never knew we were missing so much, sorry! I tried to add as best I could from the emails I had from NVC along with clarification on the other things you asked.
As a side note: My wife called back to the NVC and they told her it was because it was too decorative despite it actually being a long form birth certificate. The lady then proceeded to tell her that she would forward it to a supervisor which will delay the case 30 business days and to wait 25 days before calling back.
If that isn't a punch in the gut...
-
I don't believe so. They supposedly respond to emails as they come so they should see your enroll email first anyway.
-
I know it's the official language, but I've seen people get checklists for either not providing the document in English or include translations. You can always call NVC and request to speak with a supervisor. See what they say (make sure you ask if it's because it's in French and not English).
In the meantime, it'd still be good to order an English copy of the birth certificate in case she ever needs it when she moves to the US. Americans don't exactly speak French
Absolutely! Thanks for the help. My wife is calling back to the NVC now as I'm at work.
Feel free to add us to your spreadsheet. My timeline is below.
Thanks again!
