Mduenas I don't know the date the consulate received my packet. After NVC told me they sent it to the consulate on 5/21 I waited about a week and did like MrTee suggested and began calling the visa specialist for my interview date. On June 6th I received my interview date (7/17) from the visa specialist. Hope this helps and good luck.

Ok thank you! There's actually the DOS website where you can enter your case number and track where your package is as it travels from the NVC to the consulate. You don't need it anymore, but the link to the site is https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?

You can still enter your case number and it should have the dates that you can use to update your timeline. :0) good luck on your interview!!

You are one of the few that can spend time with your fiance for long periods of time. It's definitely a plus as terms of evidence for your interview and building a bond for future success in your relationship. If you are serious about getting a faster interview date, I'm not so confident in getting a lawyer, unless they have done this in the past. I haven't heard of anyone using a lawyer to expedite your interview. However, since you are in DR, you can contact the Embassy and ask to pick up your Packet 4 and get the Medical done as soon as possible, From the time the Consulate gets your case, it can take 8-12 weeks to get an interview date. Since you're there just contact them yourself and explain your situation.

I can see why you say you're not confident in getting a lawyer! I spoke to a lady this morning and she wouldn't even allow me to explain my situation to see if she could help. She told me that if I wanted to ask her a question Id have to go into her office and pay 2000 pesos ($50us)!! Yeah right!!

Right now our case is at the embassy electronically, it hasn't gotten there through DHL yet. We may not have our date for another week or so. I'm wondering if I should wait till we have an actual date and ask for it to be CHANGED or call them BEFORE it's actually scheduled so they go ahead and schedule me an earlier date when my case does arrive through DHL within the next day or two. If they will even do it...

I completely agree with all of your concerns and I have made some drastic choices because of this. I have spent so much money over the last year (most of my savings has gone towards my travels)...you'll soon read why, but I can tell you that it's been worth the cost because although I cannot be certain that this will definitly work and all will go well, I CAN say I'm 100% positive about my choice to marry the man I am completely in love with. Why? Because (I honestly feel) I know him.

My situation is playing out a bit differently then most others. I have a bit more advantage because of my career and amount of time off of work I have; I'm a curriculum specialist at a school. I have the same schedule as a teacher, I'm just considered an administrator. With that said, I have spent every break in Dominican Republic with my fiancé.

As I write this, I am right next to him. As a matter of fact, I've been here for a month and will be here for another month until summer break is over and my work contract begins again. We have had the opportunity to learn a great deal about each other as we have been living together, him and I, as well as my three children (not just this trip...I'm referring to a combination of all trips together and this one).

I'm living in HIS WORLD right now and have done so each time I've come to visit. I'm playing his role: I'm learning his culture (although I'm Dominican by background, I've never lived here, only visited), getting accustomed to their laws (OR LACK OF ((wow)) I'm home bored with my kids while he's at work earning a living for us, I'm playing the wife role of cleaning and cooking on a daily basis. I've learned his expectations of me and he has definitely learned my expectations of him.

When the table turns, it's definitely going to be very different for him when he gets to the MY WORLD, but I think I've prepared him well. He speaks "preddy good inglich" (lol) since he has worked in Punta Cana Airport for he last 6 years and has had to communicate with foreigners all along. He also has a pretty good job waiting for him when he gets to the US since his aunt owns a Dominican airline at Miami International Airport. If not that, he is a ground security coordinator for his airline here in DR (which we all know pays nothing here in DR, but in the US will bring in a pretty decent salary).

In the end, having three children from a previous relationship, ending another relationship after that one...I can't keep allowing my children to view their mother in negative situations. Yes, I've spent a ton of money, but knowing I'm making the right choice...to me, at least...is priceless!

Thinking of hiring a Dominican attorney to help us push our interview date forward to this month (it hasnt been scheduled yet but our case just got to the embassy today) so my babe can come home with us! I'm trying to base the need of an expedited interview on the fact that I AM ALREADY HERE IN DR, I leave on August 7 and my new work contract begins on the 9th!! it will be too hard for me to miss work to return for the interview, that, and financially I just can't spend the money to come back AGAIN!!! (Let me know if anyone has heard if this can be done.)

Can you update your timeline please? When did Sabto Domingo receive your packet? I'd like to have an idea of when my interview will be! My case just got to El consulado today!

I just entered my case number into the DOS website and this is the message I received:

Your case is in transit to the Consular Section. Your interview date was provided to you by the National Visa Center.

I'm assuming this means that my case has left the NVC and is on the way to the Dominican Republic, but why does it say that they have provided me an interview date?? I thought that once it gets to the US Embassy is when I get an interview date!? How do I get the date? What do I do now??

Thank you for the responses. I have an attorney on the case and told me that me being at the interview was not mandatory, as it stated in the packet. Well i will be in the Dominican Republic in July for my interview. I have all documents that were stated above except letters from family and friends. I will work on those immediately.

No offense, but your lawyer will tell you whatever you want to hear so that you will pay them! The people on here have gone through this process...they may not earn $$ lawyer fees for the advice they give... But I guarantee that if you listen to your attorney instead if the individuals that are sure if the processes on here, you may end up regretting it down the line.

Before I even found VJ I met a lady that had gone through the k1 process and told me that both MUST attend DR cita. This isn't something that VJ people are "just saying"...your lawyer doesn't know what he's talking about. Every embassy is different. Your lawyer is going off of textbook information. Both individuals "generally" don't need to be present.

I just learned something new .. I called the nvc and a very nice gentleman told me that if you signed up for email alert and text alert they can also alert you when a case number is assigned[/

Where can you sign up for these alerts? Through USCIS? Tge same place you check your case statues or somewhere else!?

Today, June 22 is 8 months since my noa1. I just received an email stating my case was approved on June 21. Thank you god!

This is so scary to read!!

Here I am thinking that my RFE was a ray of sunshine and that I would be approved within days of me sending in my response...but now I have read all of these things and have become completely bummed out again.

My NOA1 was 10/22. I got my RFE on 5/15 and they received it on 5/22. I was missing the signatures on the letters of intent. That's it. :"0(

The bittersweet part of it all is that the original plan (thinking we'd be approved by now) was that since I work in education and I have summers off, I'd spend the summer in Dominican Republic. We would have our interview, celebrate with our friends, enjoy our summer, return to the US together and get married before the summer would end. Now...I'm going to spend two months with him, yet I'm already dreading the fact that I cannot believe that I will have to say good-bye to him yet again. When this should have been the beginning of the rest of our lives, is turning out to be just an over drawn vacation with each other that will end in a tearful good bye like every other. It's devastating.......

My fiancé who is the petitioner called USCIS hotline today and talked to a robot like human being, she just stated everything in the script, so, we asked for a Tier 2, there was a 75 min wait however, there is an option for you to hang up and they will call you back so, he did that. They did call back around 60 min later and my fiancé gave the receipt number and noa1 date, by the way, we have an October 3, 2012 NOA1 and received a RFE on April 9, 2013 and received they acknowledge that they received our reply April 17, 2013. So, the Tier 2 just told us it's in "initial review" so my fiancé asked for specific details and she said "Sir, initial review is initial review, thanks for calling USCIS, bye" and then she's gone. Wow!! My fiancé asked politely but I guess she's just rude. It's been 6 weeks already since they received our reply.

My fiancé's father requested him back in 2007 (from the Dominican Republic) and they have been waiting on his vida ever since. Since then, I have petitioned for him to come to the US so we can get married. I've been waiting since Oct. 2012 and just recently received an RFE so I'm wondering if maybe I'm better off just waiting for his father's visa (I'm thinking it might turn up faster than mine at this rate). Any advice??

Ok, so I called USCIS this afternoon...after a full 24 hours of receiving a delivery confirmation from the US Postal Service that my document had been signed for and delivered to USCIS. I was told that statuses weren't automatically updated when documents are received. They are only get updated when an actual customs agent gets your case to work on it. In other words, I could send my RFE reply today and it could sit there for 3 weeks before someone picks it up to work on it. It's them that I'll get an update.

Well, she told me to be patient and wait up to 60 days (not to mention that yesterday was 7 months since I petitioned into this hell hole). it wasn't but maybe 15 minutes after we hung up that I got a text stating that I had a status update. My docs have been received. PROGRESS!!!!

Now for the waiting...

If been looking and researching and trying to find some patterns. I've noticed only a few people add a "received date" notation to their RFE reply box so this is clearly skewed, but it appears that the people that DO get a quick status update, often get an approval within two weeks. As opposed to those that just have a reply date (I'm guessing maybe they never received a status update?? Or maybe one long after their reply that they don't think to add it) most likely wait from 30, up to the 60 days that are stated on the RFE notice. :0/

I'm wondering if anyone out there can tell me if I'm heading in the right direction on this thought??

That is absolutely ridiculous!!!!! So when you call they can obviously see that your situation is not a common one and they are not offerring a solution as to maybe sending you another copy? Have you made an Infopass appointment at your local office?? I know that when I went there, they were able to access info that the reps over the phone couldn't...and...they can't just hang up on you or give you "whatever" answers since you are literally standing right there!! You should try this option!! They usually have appointments within a few days from now so you may get answers sooner than you think.

All these RFE's are just notice saying we have an RFE but we NEVER had the "hardcopy" since the first notice. Sadly, yes my friend, it's been a month and we're still waiting for that hardcopy, to find out what papers we are lacking.

I have a friend on here that she never submitted letters of intent AT ALL. I actually sent them but I sent them as emails rather than letters with original signatures. When I got my RFE it was worded as thou I didn't submit them at all. Well my friend wait TWO MONTHS to get approved after she submitted her reply to her RFE. I am terrified because I would absolutely hate to wait another 2 months just for an approval!! Then another 2 months for the interview date?? God...this is horrible.

I noticed that too. And I believe that those that get approved sooner after RFE reply was received are for those cases with simple fix like yours. Ours were simple too, so we're hoping to receive our NOA2 hopefully before the month ends. (Fingers crossed)

I don't understand?!?!? You got more than one RFE?!? Or you have not received the hard copy for even the first one yet?!?! I have heard that when you get the first email that means that you have just been given the actual RFE and the 2nd email is when it's mailed out to you. The 3rd and 4th one a month later?!?! is that a completely different one after you fixed the first one?? or you never found out what the first one was and then they sent you the other two emails??

RFE 3rd email notice: Received on May 09, 2013 saying we have an RFE on 2013-04-24 again. Message was sent through email and text.

RFE 4th email notice: 2013-05-23, (today) SIGH!!

Man, this is heartbreaking. I just wanna cry! My fiance kept on calling our lawyer and USCIS for the updates and follow ups but no nothing. They just keep on telling us to wait for the hardcopy, question is when is that f***** RFE gonna come?? we've been waiting for a month now!

Another thing is that I see some people that get an approval within days of their RFE reply and some get an approval after months!! What's up with that??

I didn't have original signatures on my letters of intent...that's it for me. It was a quick fix, I just needed to wait for the hard copy and for the weekend to be over in order to send it off! :0/

Can someone please tell me what to expect during the RFE process? Is it silence the whole time? Do you get status updates when they receive it or when they review it?

I might be being impatient, but I got delivery confirmation of my document from USPS that it arrived to to VSC yesterday morning, but my status hasn't changed. I thought that they'd at least change it to say that they have it...

I haven't gotten the hard copy of the RFE in the mail, but I believe that it is for not having an a signature on the letter of intent from my fiance (he emailed it to me and I printed it out and included it in the application). I did this before finding this site. After finding all the info on here, I went to see him during Easter break and had him sign a new letter. Thing is that, the letter is dated March 31, 2013. If I have the RFE dated for May 15, are they going to accept it?? Does it have to be dated within 30 days of the RFE date??

I really think that the requirement of an original signature from an individual that could possibly be on the other side of the world, is pretty out there...I mean, this I-129f process isn't even the actual "proving of the relationship" it's just the "ok" to go apply!!

On May 15, 2013, we mailed a notice requesting initial evidence in this case. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the evidence requested.

Not an approval, but at last...a sign of life and progress! I almost threw up! So happy! Can't wait to get the hard copy in the mail!!!

Ok so since the very beginning (NOA1- 10/22) my receipt no has never worked. Anytime I'd enter it into the USCIS page I would get this:

Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283.

I heard that when ur case is finally approved, those that receipt numbers never worked, will finally work and their status will change. TODAY, I tried...and got this response:

At this time USCIS cannot provide you with information for your case. Please contact the NCSC 1 (800) 375-5283 for additional information.

I'm thinking...that's not an approval?! So I call. They transfer me to tier-2..."your case is being processed, it's still within processing time, we're still working on OCTOBER 1st?!?!?! Really!?!?!?! Do you know what I wanted to tell him!?

Instead...I hung up.......and prayed for patience.
