That is disappointing that it takes that long for a fiance visa. How hard is it to get a visitor's visa during that time and does applying for a visitors visa cause any issues with the fiancee visa application? If it is revealed that you have an fiancee visa pending it is impossible to get a visitors visa?
Someone told me another alternative is to apply for the I-485 directly instead of a fiancee visa and it will take about the same amount of time. How does that work?
I am just saying that is what time frame for fiancé visa. If you are really lucky, they may approve your fiancé application within a month or so. It happens to other lucky people.
When you apply for visitors visa, they will ask you what is the reason y she/he Applying for? How long will she/he intent to stay here in US? Will he/she go back? She/he need to prove so many things that shows that he/she need to go back to India. Also when you apply for visiting visa they ask the question in the application Have you ever applied before? If yes? what Visa? granted or denied? Reason? In this case if you apply for visiting visa first then fiancé visa they will ask you all these visa related question again i.e have ever applied before? What visa so on……. Once you applied you are in the system.
If I were you I wouldn’t apply for visiting visa because if in case visiting visa didn’t approve that is a red flag for fiancé visa. Appling for visas both won’t hurt anything. I am not discouraging you from anything but just saying.
I-485 is for adjustment of status. In order to file I-485 that he/she has to be here in the US first through, K1, or 1-30, or any other visa.

I'm a US citizen and I am planning to marry someone from India within the next few months. The plan is for me to fly down there and have an engagement. What are the next steps I need to take after that? I have been reading about the process but it seems confusing... do I submit papers (129F application for fiancee visa) in India or do I come back and submit them here? Reading various sources I see that it can take up to 8 months for my fiancee to actually get the visa to come here to the US, is that the absolute quickest route? During that time can my fiancee visit me on a visitors visa or is the only option for me to take multiple trips back to India to see her?
Another point... i've read that 8 months is the maximum and more typically it's around 5 months? Is my assumption correct?
Anything you want to apply you have to apply here in US. You can apply 129F visa before marry- May take to approve anywhere from3 months to 8 months or one year or more than that. (I usually see less than 10 months). When you send a 129F packet make sure 100 times everything right and you included everything that they need. Once they approve USCIS will send to NVC from there it will go to Bombay or Delhi embassy (another 1 more month). Once you get interview date you can take medical and interview. For bombay I have seen once bombay got your 129-F packet you can appointment in a month. USCIS site says 5 months, which is not true. If your fiance come here on Fiancé a visa. You guys need to marry here and apply for Adjustment of statues.
If you file after marry that may take from 1 year to 2 years to approve.
My friend applied for husband she got her petition approved after 10 months and all processes took 12 months. My another friend applied for her husband 18 months ago they just got approved last month.
My brother applied for her wife his petion got after 7 months. So nobody can tell you exact time frame.
I applied 129F visa. If you look at my timeline you can see.
During the process your fiance can visit you if your fiance got a visiting visa (which is really got get for young people) If I were you I won’t that risk. You can go there many time you want.

Hi all
Nice to see you all there, I held K1 into US and married with my husband, I passed written test from local DMV and received the learner permit, but I found the expires date is 04/25/2014, they gave only one month of the permit.
I went to DMV office, they replied the expires date is depend on I94 Admit Until Date: 2014 April 25, not on the Expiration Date :11/30/2014.
Someone can tell me how to extent my learner permit from NC state?
Thanks for your help
We had same issue. What I did was. Just a week before my learners permit expire; I took NOA1 (AOS) and finger print appointment letter to DMV. I told them; my learners permit will expires in a week and I applied for work permit and AOS. I had a fingerprint appointment and I am still waiting for G Card and work permit. They said that’s ok and they extended my learners permit for another year. I hope, this may help you too. If they say no, you cannot extent your learners permit. Ask them other options. I think you will be fine!

Yes, It happened to my fiancé too. When I found out about the interview date from NVC. I emailed to the EMBASSY and asked for packet and interview letter. I would say, call and e-mail to them ASAP.
I know this may sound crazy but here we go.
My fiance who lives in Jamaica has been waiting to receive his letter for his interview so he could do his medical since Feb 10 2014. Well after reading on here I saw where people have called the NVC to obtain their date. I called NVC last night only to find out that his interview date is next week March 28. They said package 4 was sent out Feb 14, 2014 but we never got it. Has anyone else experience this before. What do u all suggest we do. Dont look as if we can get medical done in only 1 week. Thanks for the positive feed back. -
Sounds like it will only be valid for one year. Once your residency is all sorted out, you'll need to renew it.
Ryan E is right! That is what it means.

OMG!!! my SS Card was issued on 21st February.... Great.. Me and the husband can file his taxes now 'Married Joint".
We did this online last night, then shortly received an alert saying IRS had REJECTED it because MY SS# and last name do not match with the details on their system. Heart stopping moment
I confirmed that actually the details previously submitted were correct with regards to my SS# and last name and re-submitted it. We luckily received an alert confirming that IRS HAVE now accepted our filed taxes.
Obviously my SS# is brand spanking new, as is my EAD etc... have any of you experienced this before? I assume maybe my details were just slow to be recognized as its all so new? I only got my SS card a few days ago.
Im relieved... just confused as to why it was initially rejected but then accepted even though I never changed any of my details?
Samething happened to my brother and his wife. We don't know y.

My fiancé and I were allowed to stay together.
At most airport they have a separate line for citizens and visa holders, but I would recommend asking one of the officers standing around, if it would be ok if you both went together. As for as I know they allow that in most cases
I did the same some thing too.
-
Great! I did the same too. They needed marriage certificate and SSN . Best of luck !
We still waiting for GC come as well.
I just spoke with HR on the phone and she said that I have to fill out some forms with a copy for my wife's SSN and marrage certificate.

I added my husband right after we married and/ got his SS Card ( We still waiting for Green card). I don't know which company you work for. Go get your Health insurance or Insurance booklet from your work and see what is the rules and regulation in order to add your spouse. 99% of the companies let people to add their spouse and kids. I hope you can too.
Hi,
My wife came around 10 days ago with CR1 visa, she already got her SSN and I want to add her to my health insurance plan.
But my employer is telling me that I can't add my wife to my health insurance plan, but I am not sure about that.
Can anyone give me hands up, how exactly this process should work?
Thank you.

My wife is struggling, she is taking free ELL classes at the local tech. She and my 5 year old nephew read Dr Suess together. Her teachers have told me I need to be tough with her. let her interact with people as much as possible. Actually getting out and talking with people will be the best way to learn. It's a struggle for sure. There are some sounds she just can not make. "th" for instance eludes her.
The hardest thing for me has been to stop being a crutch for her. She relies on me too much when we are out and about. I feel like I'm being mean, but if i help her out every time she gets stuck she won;t learn.
Something that has helped her a lot is downloading a list of the 500 most common words in the English language. She then translates each of those words phonetically in her native language. Somehow the process of translating makes the words stick in her mind. Then whenever we have a little time, I have her read those words back to me using her translations as a remi
Hopefully, they will learn fast.

in your locale,
There are many ESL resources. Some are free, some are subsidized with low fee, some are high $$.
Have you done any investigation (using a PC, a real web browser, and The Google) for yer locale ? If not, you should, nowish.
Thank you guys.....................

If you mention ABC aka XYZ IN I-130 You have to have PCC under both names. If PCC says ABC aka XYZ not a problem at all ( That is the way PCC does in US) That is the way they supposed to do. You only need to do aka XYZ in pcc if you mention in I-130.
Thanks for replying. The names on the passport and I-130 are the same (say ABC), but in reply to the question on I-130 where it says "All other names used" there is an additional name (say XYZ). So if the PCC says "ABC" rather than "ABC aka XYZ", is it going to be a problem at NVC or embassy? If we really need "ABC aka XYZ" to satisfy the NVC people, then how do we do that in the passport office?
am i good to go?
