  1. Sept. 25, 2013 USEM Interview Experience

*went there around 3AM ( you can come later than that but earlier than 6AM) and was done almost 11AM

    1. Every applicant will be asked to fall in line (outside the building) according to their Visa category (each category has their own appointment time, k1 falls at 7:30 AM appointment time) and will be asked to enter the building one category at a time. For K1, when asked to enter the building in line, prepare these docs:
    • PASSPORT ( will be put inside a zip lock plastic, make sure the biographical page is visible)
    • APPOINTMENT LETTER*
    • DS Form 156*
    • DS Form 156k*
    • DS Form 157*

*all of these docs will be stapled together while the USEM employee is reminding you to double check your DS Forms to make sure you answered them all correctly leaving no blanks unanswered.

Note: DS Form 230 Part I was included on the Embassy instruction letter to fill up but on your interview, they won’t ask for it.

    1. Upon entering the building, your bags and/or anything you carry with you will be asked to pass by an x ray machine (like the ones at airports) while a guard will do a frisking on you. Do not carry with you any kind of gadget, USB, pointed objects, pens with flashlights or any metallic object as much as possible. Umbrellas are allowed though.
    1. Inside the building, you will fall in line to a window where you will be given your Que number. Here, you will present the stapled docs and a copy of your Que number will be attached on them before they will be given back to you. Do not lose your Que number. .
    1. You will enter another door (main building) where your bags will be checked and another frisking.
    1. A USEM employee will ask all of the K1 applicants to show her their DS Forms and assist them on how to properly fill them up since they want to make sure that no item was left unanswered. They are very strict on it as you will be rescheduled if your docs reached the Filipino consul with some blank items on them. You have to be attentive on what she is saying and when you are done, she will double check it again then collect your docs and ask you to have a seat and wait for your Que number to flash on the monitor.

Note: Step 6 & 7 can interchange depending on what window you will be called with. I will base these two steps on my experience. Waiting is kinda lonnggggggggg……ZZZzzzzz if you can, have a heavy breakfast before attending the interview (your number will be called 3 times on the whole process, be attentive if you want to get processed without delays)

    1. My number flashed on the monitor and was asked to go to Window 43 where a young guy asked me my DOB and Name and then took my finger prints. He then told me to go back to my seat and wait for my number to be called again..

(remember, each waiting period is long)

    1. My number flashed again, was asked to go to Window 55 to have my initial interview with a Filipino Consul (friendly and the conversation was in Tagalog) where he asked for my PASSPORT, ITR 2013 with W2 2013 and FIANCE’S EMPLOYMENT LETTER. Questions asked:
    • How did we meet? When?
    • When did I last see him?
    • What is his job?
    • How old is he? How old am I?
    • I don’t think you will need an interpreter anymore.
    • Do you have some proof with you that you can show the American Consul like photos?

I said yes but he didn’t asked me to show him anymore, he just told me that my docs are ok and have to wait for my number to be called again.

Note: for those who will need an interpreter when having your interview with the American Consul, just tell the Filipino Consul as they will provide one for you.

    1. I was called at Window 65 where a young American guy was the Consul. I can describe him as serious, not smiling and strict. The questions I will be writing on this part will include some from my own interview experience and from the other K1 applicants from my batch of interviewees on that day.
    • Tell me about your fiancé.
    • How did you meet?
    • When did you meet?
    • What is his job?
    • What did he finish in college?
    • From what school?
    • What is his name?
    • How old is he?
    • How old are you?
    • Where is he from?
    • What books does he like to read?
    • Do you have a common artist you both like?
    • How many cars does he own? What brand?
    • Is he divorced? Is the ex-wife American too?
    • What caused the divorced?
    • How many kids do they have?
    • What are their names?
    • What are your plans for the wedding?
    • How many times did he come to visit you?
    • What’s his favorite place in the Philippines?
    • How’s the weather in (whatever ever state your fiancé is from)
    • What do you most like about him?

Note: these questions may or may not be asked on you depending on whose Consul will be assigned to you.

    Tips:

    • Know anything and everything about your fiancé. (favorite color, likes, hobbies etc.)
    • Answer confidently. As much as possible, when answering, make an eye to eye contact with the Consul. Do not get rattled or nervous.
    • Smile at him/her even if he he/she looks serious.
    • Be specific with your answers. Do not say a lot if not needed, less talk, less mistakes. Just answer what is being asked.

As with my experience, I was just asked to present some photos to show evidences of my Fiancé’s visitation while other Consuls didn’t ask anything from the other applicants. As I said mine was strict and asked a lot of questions compared with the others, who only took them like 2-3mins at most. But I was relieved when he finally said; my visa is approved and I just wait to be called again.

    1. Those who were done with the American Consul will be called either at Window 71 or 72. Here, you will be advised to go home and wait for your visa or may ask you to go to Window 69 (2GO) for your preferred delivery/pick up address. Sometimes, they will ask you again some questions but don't worry, they are just doing some confirmations about you and not as serious as the American Consul. However, if in case USEM still have some concerns on your docs, you will be asked to submit them by sending them to your nearest 2GO branch in order to process your visa. Other applicants were asked to go to Window 70 to learn more about their needed docs to submit.

    Notes:

*Applicants who didn’t meet the required poverty guidelines were given 221g asking them to provide additional Evidence of Support docs to process their Visa and to avoid getting denied for being a Public Charge in the US.

    Good luck!!

  2. just thinking, maybe i will be allowed to exit from Clark since i have a US visa (K1) on my passport by then and we can also show a copy of our connecting flights from HK-SFOdancin5hr.gif. im sure those facts will make a difference from those that doesn't have a US visa on hand.

  3. I don't think she's coming as a companion pass, I believed she is a register guest

I was able to take my wife with me via CX to KHG almost every 2months without issue (before we got married she's under my register guest), I'm not sure about UA agreement with CX since UA is under Star Aliance, I work for AA and CX is under One World

To play safe get a confirm flight from MNL-HKG, I'm 100% sure your fiance can get you on UA easily,

MNL-HKG to US mainland is my regular route via CX I hardly take UA since they still use the old 747-400 and they won't allow me to JS

P.S. if HKG route doesn't work, try MNL to GUM to HNL to either SFO or IAH via UA, this is 100% free with possible upgrade to first class

thank you so much for those infos. we will definitely look for better flying options like the ones you mentioned.smile.png

  4. yes, my fiance works for UA for 24 yrs so his seniority level is good. he already enrolled me under his flying benefit as enrolled friend since we aren't married yet. he can buy us tickets if we want to but why do you have to spend if you can have it for free or even paying a lesser price for my fare with just a few hassle. that's is why we want to board UA from HK since there will be a greater chance to have a seat from there than boarding from Manila because the flights from there are usually full. we can also buy tickets from other airlines going to HK from NAIA if exiting from Clark won't work. i was just hoping that Clark is possible since i have all my docs with me anyway. the only difference is im getting out of the country from another airport besides NAIA. i don't know for sure if somebody with a K1 visa have ever tried it that's why i was asking.

  5. my fiance flies in/out of Clark too every time he comes to visit me. he flies from SFO to Korea or HK (united airlines) then to Clark (Asiana/Air Asia). he finds it more convenient since the airport is not too busy not unlike Manila and it's near my place. i'd rather fly from there too but i'm just wondering it i can exit from there having my K1 visa. i know flying to HK doesn't need a visa though but i don't really have any idea what can be the scenario at the Clark's immigration since i am not flying from NAIA as my exiting airport. perhaps i should call the airport ahead so as to know if i can exit from there. tahnks to all your reply.

  6. i got my sputum result last Sept. 12 (negative results hurraayyyy!) and i came back to SLEC Sept. 13, had a shot of vaccine and went home with my CD. my interview date is Oct. 16.dancin5hr.gifdancin5hr.gif

my fiance works with an airline company so he enrolled me under his flying benefits, thus we don't need to purchase a plane ticket going to the US, hopefully at the end of Oct when he's back to get me. however, we are planning to fly from DMIA Clark, Angeles going to Hong Kong for the main reasons that it will be hard for us to get a seat if we are flying from NAIA since we are chance passengers and Clark is just 30mins away from my place. we just have to purchase Air Asia tickets for that trip. and from Hong Kong, we will board a trip of United Airlines going to SFO as my POE. my question is, won't there be any problem if i won't be flying from NAIA? do you think the flight plan will be fine as long as i have all my docs, CFO stickers and paid any necessary tax/ fee at DMIA airport? i know we need to pay a tax fee at the airport before the departure. i just want to make sure i won't have any hassles at the airport in going out of the country. TIA

  7. i just checked the USEM calendar and there's no more available slots for Sept & Oct while Nov isn't open yet. my sputum result is due pretty soon (Sept 11). i was hoping to get an earlier interview schedule like around the end of Sept after getting my result from SLEC but it seems like that's impossible right now. how i wish i should have made an earlier appointment myself than letting SLEC choose a date for me on the day i get back to their clinic. a date that is closer to the day i get my result and assuming that the result is negative since i never received a call anyway. that way i will be able to get hold a closer date without an additional waiting period, than leaving me with the chances of getting interviewed on a later date around Nov. the only hope to get interviewed earlier right now is if there will be some sudden opening slots because of appointment cancellation

i thought SLEC has the authority to give priority dates to those who had sputum exam or a 6mos treatment since they had a pending medical cases. but i guess they just also rely on what the availabilities are at the USEM calendar in giving an interview appointment.

  8. i see. i was just worried that SLEC might not get me an earlier available schedule around Sept anymore since the last time i check, there's no more open slots for Sept and early Oct. i know the USEM calendar changes every now and then but in case there's no more open slot available at that moment, does it mean i will probably get a later date like mid or end of Oct or does SLEC have the authority to get their clients who had sputum test an earlier interview appointment since they got delayed for months already. i wish they could since it's really a dreadful thing to wait for the sputum result for 8weeks and another weeks of waiting for the interview schedule is the last think i want.

in your case, may i know how many days do you have to wait from the day you got your result and vaccination until you will have your interview?

  9. another question please. let's say the culture result was negative and had your vaccination already, will SLEC schedule the interview appointment for us like what they said? and what if as far as you know, there's no more available nearest schedule for you, does SLEC gets you a priority date where in they give it to those that had to undergo sputum test or treatment of 6mos?

i just checked the USEM calendar a while ago and it seems like there's no more available dates around Sept or early Oct. and my sputum results will be available Sept 11, i was hoping to get an interview date of around Sept still. i hope it's still possible.

  10. No results will be given over the phone. On the day you call they will instruct you to come back to SLMC to get you results in person...

Our results were ready on the 8 week mark exactly. We now have to go in for the results, good luck.

did you call them on the due day of the test or on the date they told you to call. isn't it they give us instruction to call them 5days after the due date of the exam result. like my sputum due is sept 11 but the date they instructed me to call is after 5 days which is the 16th. i would like to call them on the 12th or at least earlier than 16th but im a bit worried that they might not entertain my call since i am not obeying what i was asked to do.

  11. Yep. I experienced that need to go 10 mins. away because we have luggages, Taxi driver insisted no need for meters. Instead of giving them generous tip I will give exact amount they deserve!

Whenever they see that Pinay with White Guy, they just want to take advantage of it however if they felt that you are not from Manila they will do the same thing. Sad but it is happening. Worst they will take you in a long route just to let you pay bigger.

just want to share my experience hoping it can be a lesson for anyone..

i had my medical last July 1. i took a bus from Angeles to Avenida then took a taxi going to Casa Bocobo. unfortunately, when the taxi learned that i don't really know how to get there and that i just had the address from my printed bookings, he took me farther than the exact location of the hotel and the funny thing was, he acted like he wasn't familiar with the route even when he told me before that it wasn't really that far from Avenida. i was asking him to put the meter on but he said i would have to pay him per meter which is P120 because he is an airport taxi and that he only took a passenger from the airport to a nearby hotel. i keep on insisting to put on the meter but he said we have to find the address first and deal with the fare later. in the end, he asked me to pay him P700 plus and he wouldn't let me out of the taxi. i got so scared since i couldn't get out. i told him i wouldn't pay him that amount but i gave him P500 since im really getting scared. he had to go out of the driver's seat and open the door from the outside before i was able to get off the car. i was really shaking in fear and in anger. fortunately, the place i got off was just a few steps from the hotel. i tried calling the LTO number but nobody is answering the call.

i hope it will never happen to me again or to anybody here... so please be alert for those taxi drivers who take advantage of their passengers.

  12. from Bocobo hotel, i think it only took like 10-20mins, we got there around 3am so it was still dark outside. we didn't realized ahead that the taxi we took wasn't using the meter, the driver just told us that we just pay the minimum which is around like P200 but we later found out that it will only cost less than a hundred on a metered taxi from the hotel. so for those taking a taxi, just a piece of advice, make sure the taxi is using the meter before taking it. i had a bad experience with a taxi cab before so im a bit scared of taking them alone.

  13. i am from Pampanga as well, Porac to be exact. Im done with the CFO seminar last July 3. haven't done with my interview yet since i had to undergo the dreadful sputum exam unfortunately, 1mon more before i can get my result. i am not really familiar on how to go to CFO though, i only took a taxi from Bocobo to their office with 2 more K1 filers i met from K1 group on FB. I will have to come back for the sticker when i have my visa on hand and most probably, i will just commute too. good luck on your coming seminars girls.smile.png

  14. good day vj world!

i had my medical exam this week but unfortunately i was told to undergo a sputum exam. on my DS-156 form i already put Aug. 16 as my intended arrival date (US) but my sputum exam results will be on the 3rd week of Sept. so hopefully if it turns out negative, my interview date will likely be around early Oct. if i got an earlier available slot and that means i won't be able to go on the intended date of arrival i put on my form. my question is should i change my DS-156 form or just present the original one even if it states there that Aug. 6 is my intended date of arrival? if i should change it, are we allowed to generate or fill-up more than once for the DS-156? i hope somebody can give me an idea. TIA

  15. I'm glad they finally received your case. Good luck in the next steps of the process in Manila. Ours is still missing so far. I called USCIS and embassy in Manila. Neither has our case. I also sent email with copy of NOA2 to research department of NVC last week, but they still have not responded to my inquiry (just auto-response email). When you got the positive result, was it via email reply to your inquiry, or when you called the NVC again?

I hope they find ours soon. It has been 36 days already since NOA2. sad.png

When USCIS emailed my fiance requesting him to send a copy of our NOA2, they also stated that

they will be the one to contact USCIS about our case. Then after 2days my fiance called USCIS and

NVC. The NVC rep told him that they got our case. But we dont really know why it went "missing" for

a while. Hopefully we will get our MNL# pretty soon.

Just keep calling them, i know it really sucks not knowing where the case is right now but they have to do something to put it back in track. Good luck.

  16. our NOA2 also says forwarded to consulate. it tooks us almost a month after approval date before NVC finally told us that they got our case on their hand. what we did was we called NVC from the 15th days from approval date but they said they didn't received our case yet. we called them several times until they asked a copy of our NOA2 so my fiance sent them a scanned copy. i also called the embassy hoping that they got our case but they said they don't have it and it's supposed to go to NVC from the center and advice me to keep calling NVC and USCIS office. after a couple days from sending NVC a copy of our NOA2, we got a positive result, they got our case now and that they will be sending it to the embassy this week. so my advice is to try calling also the USCIS office since they were the last one who processed the case, then the NVC and the embassy just to make sure if they have it or not. somehow, those who got NOA2 that says "forwarded to consulate" are having unnecessary delays compared to those that says "forwarded to NVC". we all know that all petitions should go to NVC after getting approved and not directly to the embassy. just be patient and be pro active, the last thing we want are misplaced/lost cases.. good luck

  17. we already called them several times from our 15th days from approval date. they said they didn't received our case yet. they even requested for a copy of our noa2. i know that all cases must be forwarded to the nvc after getting approved before they sent them to the embassy to get our mnl#. i just don't understand why uscis will send some with noa2 stating that the case was forwarded to the listed consulate while the most common noa2 will say that it will be forwarded to the nvc like it's supposed to. if uscis sent our case to nvc indeed, (despite of what's our noa2 states) i wonder why they can't give us our mnl# and that they don't have it on their system yet when it's almost a month now since we got approved. i already talked with an embassy rep and she said that they don't have the case yet and that it's supposed to be in nvc first.

the last thing we want now are unnessary delays specially that it seems like we don't have any idea where our case is right now so i think it's better to be proactive about this. for now, we will be making the calls for nvc, the embassy and maybe uscis office. wish us luckcray5ol.gif

  18. i just talked with a Manila Embassy rep and she said they don't have my case yet. but she adviced me to send an email to the embassy for further checking. we are still waiting from the NVC's repsonse since they asked for a copy of our NOA2. hoping to hear from them soon and if not, then we have to call USCIS office since they were the last one who processed the cased. i will give an update as soon as i got a response from the usem and nvc.
