  1. You can also take a social security earnings statement of the citizen father. These can be obtained from the social security website. I was present for the CRBA interview for my daughter and I took the social security statement ,military records, naturalization papers and a letter from my employer. I only took the employment letter because I had been with the same employer in the US for more than 10 years. This was the embassy in Trinidad & Tobago. When they looked at the documents the consular officer just looked at me and smiled and said " well you definitely meet the presence requirements". We talked a little bit about my US military service and it turned out we were actually stationed at the same time on the same base in California. After it was over they told me or my daughters mother could pick the CRBA up in about 4 weeks. I think that was the standard wait time they give people but just 8 days later I got an email stating it could be picked up any time. So just 8 days wasn't bad at all

  2. The appointment took about 30 minutes when I did it for my daughter. They made the decision there. How it's done is that they approve/deny first.Once it's approved they go ahead and accept the passport application for processing. At the end of it we were given a receipt to pick up the CRBA and Passport 3 weeks later.

About 8 days later after the appointment I get an email from the embassy saying we could pick the CRBA up and the passport any time. I guess the 3-4 weeks is the average processing time but it can get done by them before that.In our case it took 8 days. This was the embassy in Trinidad & Tobago.

  3. Thanks. Can anyone comment on the format of the CRBA document? Should it go father's name then mother's name or the other way around?

From what my wife described, the paper she received has one line "mother/father/parent" and on the line bellow my name followed by hers. Is that correct?

    thanks.

I was in a similar situation. My daughter was born in wedlock before my wife's petition was approved .My daughter's CRBA is the same way. I am the father (USC) however under the mother/father/parent line my name is listed first followed by her mothers.

  4. That's very strange that it only let you file single. You would not have been able to efile your taxes if your spouse did not have a ss number however it should have allowed you to print it and mail it.You have to mail in returns where a spouse does not have a social security number,I used H& R Block software and the software informed me of how I had to file. Anyways you should look into filing an amended return asap.

  5. Hello aaron2020,

I was just reading your previous posts about this on the other thread. Thank you for clarifying or making it clear here. I will find my old passports and count the days of my in/outs in the US. I knew for sure that I had a 5 year total stay in the US and I just have to prove it to them.

One thing that really bothers me is that I find it a "rip off" when they can't give you a refund for the passport application in case CRBA gets denied. It's like a pitfall.

So IR1 is the way to go in case things go wrong here.

In my case when I did the CRBA /Passport application for my daughter they did not even look at the passport application or take the money for it until the CRBA was approved. We paid for the CRBA then went through the process and then they approved. After that they sent me back to the cashier to pay for the passport application and then processed it.I am the USC and did it at the embassy in Trinidad and Tobago. Both me and my wife were present for the CRBA/Passport application.

  6. My daughter was born after my wifes petition was approved but before she got ther visa so we had to apply for her CRBA.The embassy should have requirements on the webpage. The embassy in our case required both parents be there for the appointment.First they review the documents of the citizen parent to see if they meet the requirements.I had taken in my social security statement which can be obtained from their website, copioes of my military records and a letter from mjy US employer whom I have been employed with over 10 years. The consular officer looked at it and smiled and said "you definitely meet the physical presence requirements"Then he said it was approved.Once it is approved they go through the US passport application for the child. Then they will give you a date when the passport will be ready. In our case they told us 2-4 weeks but 8 days later I got an email from the embassy saying my daughters US passport was ready for pickup. So in my case it took 30 mins for the CRBA and childs passport application and we had her passport 8 days later

  7. $150 sounds like a deductible on an emergency room visit.Hospitals can be sneaky anyways.A couple of years ago I was doing a physical with my doctor so he refers me to get an ekg done which is normal for my age.Anyways the ekg center was at a hospital so I called to schedule an appointment.Would you believe they wanted to me to pay $150 which was the emergency room visit on my insurance at the time. They were asking me for credit card info and stuf.So I say to the person this is a referral not an emergency and I am not paying anything now but I will be there in person the foloowing day and am ready to talk to someone in billing and I hung up.I got there the next day and they were well aware of me coming. The person at the desk in the hospital told me it was totally covered by my insurance. So they were adamant to charge me a fee that I would not have been responsible for.Later on I had major surgery and you would not believe how many times they tried to double bill my insurance. When I looked at my insurance statement more than half the payments to the hospital was denied by my insurance co.The reason was double biling and my insurance comapny showed wherey double billed. The can be so sneaky sometimes.

  8. Yes I had to go in person since the Trinidad embassy required that both parents had to be there even though we were married.I had emailed the trinidad embassy and asked them the rquirements.I have read some embassies do not require the US citizen to be there but they have to send in notarized copies of all the citizenship paperwork and fill out forms.Remember the citizenship is being gained due to a parent. So naturally the form is tailored for the US citizen parent(s)You can try emailing Jamaicas embassy..Trinidads embassy had email contact on their US Citizen services page on their website. They were very quick in responding to me.I have emailed them several times and the the latest I ever got a reply back was by the following day.You can try and see if Jamaicas embassy is set up the same way.On the way back from the embassy my wife had asked me what is the process now for our daughter when she would be coming up to the states.I smiled and told her in a couple weeks she willl have a US passport...no visa required lol She then said she wished the process for her was as easy as our daughters.

  9. I got my daughters CRBA at the embassy in Trinidad. She ended up being born before my wife got her visa. The process is very similar at all embassies. You can submit an application for the US passport for the child at the same time you apply for CRBA.

Once you get all the docs the application process is split up in two parts. Trinidad required that both parents be present for the application.

The first part involves the review of the documents to establish eligibility of the child for US citizenship. This took about 5-10 minutes and then told us it was approved. The consular officer told me that the my docs ( I’m the USC) were in order and I was well prepared and that is went so quickly.

Once it is approved then they do the second part which is processing the passport application. That took about 10 mins.

Then they will notify you when it is ready for pickup. In our case they gave us an expected pickup date of 3-6 weeks however 8 days later they sent us an email saying my daughters CRBA and Passport was ready for pickup at the embassy.

For my residency requirements I took in a copy of my Social Security statement which you can get online at the social security website.I also took in a letter from my employer. I have been with the same employer in the US for over 10 years. And a copy of my US military service record. I also took several years tax returns but it looked like they didn’t need to look at it after seeing the first 3.

So in our case it took about 45 mins at the embassy and 8 days later my wife had our daughters CRBA and passport in hand

  10. A few months ago I got my daughters CRBA at the embassy in Trinidad. It took 8 days from the time we applied to when were informed the passport was ready for pickup at the embassy. In our case our daughter was born before my wife got the visa. The key thing was that both parents had to be present to submit the application. When you apply for the CRBA you can submit the passport application at the same time.Process was very fast .It took about 15-20 mins.Granted the consular officer told me that all my documents (I'm the USC) were in order and that I was well prepared.

  11. I am a naturalized citizen also. In my case I submitted a copy of my social security statement and a letter from my employer. Granted I have been working at the same employer for 10 years and have been residing in the US for 20 years. The consul looked at the documents when I brought them in and just looked at them and immediately looked at me , smiled and said "Well you definitely meet the requirements of physical presence "It was approved in less than 5 minutes. The passport and CRBA was ready for pickup 9 days later. This was the embassy in Trinidad and Tobago. at Port of Spain.

  12. I was in a similar situation. My daughter was born before my wifes visa was issued.I did it for my daughter a couple weeks ago.It was at the embassy in Trinidad and Tobago. The whole process of getting the CRBA and passport took about 30 minutes. They look at the docs and then decide if to approve the CRBA.Once they approve it then they process the passport application.I went to the embassy on Nov 5the and they gave me a date of Nov 26th that ot would be ready. On Nov 14th I got an email that my daughters CRBA and passport were ready for pickup....just 9 days later.Hopefully it goes as smoothly for you as it did for us.

  13. How long does crba process takes? Now im just hoping for them to make it in time for christmas and our daughters first bday!

Well I went to the embassy in Trinidad and Tobago last week tuesday to file for my daughters CRBA and apply for her US passport.I had my us passport, naturalization certificate, social security statement and a job letter. The whole process took about 20 minutes at the embassy. What happens is the consulate looks at the CRBA application first and decides to approve it.Once approved you pay for it and then you go back and do the passport application. Then pay and it's done. 15 mins for CRBa about 5-10 mins for passport. They gave us an estimate that her passport would be ready on Nov 26th.I got an email yesterday stating the passport was ready for pickup...just 9 days later.

Hopefully it happens quickly for you just as ours did.

  14. Yes the child can have US citizenship through the father.

One way is a Counsular Report of birth abroad of a US Citizen. This you basically file this at the US embassy. Both parents have to sign it.You also can submit a US passport application for the child at the same time. Two weeks later you get the passport and the CRB.This document can be used as a US birth certificatefor things like school etc.I am getting ready to file the same thing as my daughter was born before our petition was approved and therefore was born overseas. .So timing was a bit off.

  15. I don't have my wife on any bank accounts and I got approved.I do have her as a benificiary on my life insurance. She is pregnant so I got a letter from her doctor stating she was pregnant and it was our second one as our first try ended in miscarriage. Then I got 3 affidavits from people attesting to bonafide marriage.I also sent pictures and copies of airline tickets and copies of my passport page with immigration stamps that coincided with the ticket dates.I did not send any skype,im chat logs, phone bills etc as some others have done on here.

  16. I had a similar experience.I dropped off my RFE docs to my local office last week monday and on tuesday this week I get a text stating I was approved. It was a good thing I did an infopass last month.I found out they had sent me an RFE in December which I never received.USCIS website never said there was an RFE either.Had I gotten the letter I am pretty sure i would have been approved months ago.

  17. Yes you can travel. My wife travels to the US twice a year and I go to Trinidad twice a year. and we never had any issues. Most they have ever asked her was how we met.She told them that I was trying so hard to get her attention at a function that she figured it was worth a shot to talk to me. The immigration officer had a good chuckle an just told her to enjoy her stay.lol

  18. I take it you have been issued your immigrant visa.On arrival go to the visitors line.Give them your visa packet. You will then probably be taken to another area for secondary processing.Should not take more than 15-20 mins or so.Ft Lauderdale is a smaller airport and is releatively not busy with too many international arrivals.Sunday is my preferred day to fly into that arport when coming from overseas. It's much easier than miami.

  19. Thanks Darnell.I myself was shocked as it was only last week I dropeed the docs off via info pass( I Have to admit I used your sequestration concerns reason to the person at the desk when they asked why I didn't just mail it in.The opportunity was too good to let pass lol ) .I believe had i received the original RFE letter back in Dec it would have been done in Januarary. The Jacksonville field office stats look pretty good.
