  1. Yes Rlt, someone else said somewhere he had forgotten his tax returns in the hotel room so he ran out of the consulate and went into a cyber cafe and printed out from the IRS website and it worked just fine.

I'm sure you'll be fine.

Interesting story. Tax transcripts are not available from the IRS website. He must havbe had them saved somewhere else.

But to answer the first question, yes, the transcript is all you need at the Rio consulate.

  2. When I brought my 2 goldens up from Brazil on American Airlines in Rio it cost $100 per crate. They were the first one to arrive in the baggage area at Miami. and I brought them out through customs myself, it took all of 30 seconds.

It makes a difference if your going to be on the flight with them.

    The short list from Rio.

    1) Proof of rabies and health 30 days before flight

    2) Go to the airport and get the proof of rabies and health cert transferred to the Brazil health dept Document.

    3) Brings dogs with you check in, and AA takes them from there.

    Total Cost: 2 Crates $200 + the per crate fee ($200) = US$400

  3. There are some october fares coming in at $1298. If you can wait until mid-november, the fare drops to $855 with a couple stops (sampa and panama) on Copa Air. Comes to $928 with all taxes if you leave on the 13th of november.

Leaving any time in October the cheapest fare is $1298 on Delta $1377 with all taxes with one stop in Atlanta.

  4. I lived in Brazil for almost 4 years. The first 6 months were a nightmare until I lost the "fear" of speaking. Portuguese is mandatory if you plan on living there, especially in a small town.

The great thing is that you learn really fast being immersed. After a year I could do anything. I may not have known all the words at that point, but I knew enough words to explain what I wanted or needed.

I was on assignment in Brazil, so I was making US wages. I wanted to stay after my contract was up, but the best job I could find involved taking an 80% pay cut. Depending on the "standard of living" you're accustomed to depends on the need for you to work.

  5. Sorry to hear...

Legally speaking, you're financially responsible for him for 10 years, 40 working quarters, or until he becomes a citizen. Whatever comes first.

Does he have to live with you? No. But if he tries to get any gov't benefits they'll come after you to pay them back.

I'm sorry to say this, but it's time for you to stop getting advice from a message board and get yourself a lawyer.

  6. They're legit.

We got married at www.alittlewhitechapel.com 2 weeks ago.

Their base "just a ceremony" is $55 plus donation to the pastor.

a Local justice of the peace will marry you and do the paperwork...

    Kezzie

True. The issue is they don't work Saturdays.

The license bureau and all the chapels are open on Saturdays in Vegas. You get the cert right after the ceremony.

Thanks. I found this place. I guess this is the cheapest you can go. $40 plus an anonymous donation to the priest/etc. http://www.lvgardenoflove.com/weddingpackages.html Just not sure if they are legit or if there have been any complaints? I'll do more research.

  7. Hey, I have reasearched a ton, and I've found this company http://www.kellytravel.com/ to be the cheapest, at least for me, to brazil. But i have yet to find a better rate. if anyone knows round trip tickets for less than $1000, let me know! also, http://skyauction.com seems interesting. but i haven't tried that yet.

    Just as an example, I punched in 10/03/06 - 10/10/06 JFK-GIG

www.airfare.com - Lowest fare: $707 including taxes on delta

www.flycheapabroad.com - Lowest fare: $698 including taxes on delta

Expedia - Lowest fare: $724 with 2 stops on Avianva, $769 On delta

Travelocity - Lowest fare: $774 On delta

  8. You need to seriously research your medical options before you get here, especially for the first 6-9 months after you arrive.

There is no real "public" health system here, and as a non-citizen, you will have practically zero options for non-emergency health issues. Considering your preexisting conditions, I can't imagine a health plan costing you less then $1500-$2000 a month, if they will even take you on at all. This is a very serious issue for you, and you really need to look at all your options before you consider the move here.

The US has the most expensive health care in the world so please weigh all your options very carefully.

  9. Gas prices have gone up, and from PR to Rio we´ve always ´paid around U$1100

"Normal" fares US-Brazil-US have been @$1100 for a few years now. There's an occasional special US-Brazil in the $600-$800 range, but Brazil-US hasn't been less then $1k in over 5 years.
