Is your name change based on marriage? If the name change is based on marriage and if the wife is changing her last name to that of husband's: no court order is required. All that you need is the marriage certificate.

    Hi,

This is my case. I am taking my husband's name and did not get a court order name change. In Colorado the DMV does not recognize foreign marriage certificates (got married in Peru)  Because of that I feel I should have gotten a court order. Banks, dmv, seem to require a court order... do you know of anyone that may have been in the same boat? I am scared to go to the SS and be asked for a court order and be turned away... and same with passport application. Any advice would be appreciated.

  2. Hello All,

Does anyone know why some ceremonies are performed at the field offices and others at other locations (libraries, historical buildings, etc) ?

Is there a way to find out if the ceremony one has been scheduled for is administrative or judicial? my notice does not say any details other that the time what to bring and the questionnaire on the back.

My oath ceremony is coming up in a couple of weeks at the Denver field office and I am kind of worried because I have been reading conflicting information about name changes during oath ceremony. I am taking my husband last name (dropping both of mine) and keeping my first and middle name. My marriage certificate is from abroad and some posts  (older posts) say that because of that I would need a judicial ceremony to be able to receive a court order for my name change, some other posts say an administrative ceremony would do since I am only taking my husband name and not changing anything else.  which one is it?

The DMV in Colorado says it does not recognize foreign marriage certificates for name changes. I wonder if when I go to change my name I will have trouble if I only have the naturalization certificate with new name and do not have a court order for name change. is that why people go to update their social security number first?

Also some post say that some people had to sign their old names in the naturalization certificate because that is the name that they make you sign at biometric appointment. does that make any sense? can anyone shed some light on that?

at the time of my interview the officer told me to sign my new name on an iPad but did not said if it was for oath or name change? I was so excited I was in shock and did not ask :( I just remember signing the iPad twice and clearly remember one of the times the officer said do the new name but can't remember the other one...

I will call uscis next week to see if they can tell me on the phone what type of ceremony I was scheduled for. I would hope that when reviewing files and scheduling oaths the officers take name changes into consideration and scheduled accordingly right? since I have not see many new post or experiences older ones are making me nervous.

thank you in advance for reading and sharing your opinions/ experiences in Denver or anywhere :)

    Hi journeyp2012,

I didnt receive a new date yet, its been over a month and whenever i call customer service i get the same answers and that is just wait

hey there,  it has been a week for me and I have not called customer service yet but I log in into the myuscis webpage to check every day and nothing!!! :(

have you by chance been getting any of those automated emails saying "We are still reviewing your case and there are no updates at this time"? I wonder if whenever they review our cases is when they will realize we are not at fault and do it asap!

I have asked around and not too many people have experienced this or not too many replied but the few that did and got cancelled sort of recently (President Bush passing last Decemeber) were rescheduled after a couple weeks so not sure what asap means to uscis. thanks for reading my venting! hope you get rescheduled soon! keep me posted if you can :) it helps to know other people's cases in the same situation are moving forward!

Yes I read about this recently in NYC.  Their interview was rescheduled for 2 weeks.

They actually got a phone call to say it was cancelled and would be the same time "in 2 weeks".  They did not get a written notice but they turned up at the time they were told and had their interview.

oh lucky them, I was told my new date will come in the mail. I was in shock while they were telling me it was cancelled so I missed my chance to even ask them to give me a new date right there and then! please cross your fingers for me :)

  5. hello everyone! due to bad weather my citizenship interview was canceled last minute in Denver, Colorado.

I got a call from USCIS at 5:30 p.m. the day before saying hazardous weather blah blah we will reschedule you as soon as possible. Sadly since we are not from the area we had traveled to Denver that morning and checked in into our hotel for 1 night and it was too late to turn around argh argh argh.

I am wondering if anyone has experience this in Denver or any other cities to see how your timelines changed because of this.

I would like to know how soon "as soon as possible" might be since it was not me who requested to reschedule... do we go into a pool of people that need to be rescheduled because of weather or are we thrown into a pool of people that USCIS has to rescheduled because of XYZ reasons.

thanks for sharing your experiences /comments/advice in advance!!!

  6. Good Morning everybody

I hope someone can help me with this.... :)

I got a call from the US consulate here in Lima letting me know that the I-601 I filed in April this year was approved and that they will send more info soon.

A week after I got a envelope with an appointment letter with a date for November. We filed the I-601 over a year after we filed the I-130 so my question is will I need to bring alll those documents again?

I read that I must do the medical again since its been over a year since I did it for the I-130 but aside from that do you guys know what else should I bring?

I read this on the uscis page:

Gather & Bring All Required Documents

The applicant is responsible to bring all required original documents to the visa interview, except for documents already submitted to the NVC. Failure to bring all required original documents to the interview may cause delay or denial of the visa. The following documents must be available at the interview:

    Police Certificate(s)
    Birth Certificate(s)

Court and prison records, if applicable
    Military records, if applicable
    Color photographs
    Marriage Certificate, if applicable
Evidence of financial support (e.g. Affidavit of Support, a notarized offer of employment, or evidence of assets)
Divorce decree or death certificate of spouse, if applicable
Family-based cases: All original documents establishing the relationship between the petitioner and the applicant
Employment-based cases: A currently valid letter from the prospective employer confirming the essential elements of the job offer

I know it says .... "except for documents already submitted to the NVC" so I want to make sure which ones should I bring from that list

Please if anyone has any info on this I would appreciate it.

    Thank you in advance
