  1. I had the same issue here in Texas, I did not have my EAD at the time that I applied for my DL. My I-94 had expired as well, I scheduled for my learners permit using my passport, SSN and other required documents to show that I reside in the state. I wasn't allowed to take the test until the DMV verified my lawful presence with Department of Homeland Security, the verification process took only three days, i got a letter in the mail from my local DMV to go back and take my test.

When I was ready to take my drive test, again they did the same thing. They verified my lawful presence, sent me a letter in the mail to go take my drive test. I got my DL now.

Ask to speak to the manager/senior supervisor, they can assist you on the options available. That is what we did. As long as you are here lawfully, you should be able to get your DL.

    All the best.

  2. Please remove if this has already been posted. Today I got to meet an uscis officer from the San Antonio office who came to fort hood where my husband is stationed. While talking with him, he mentioned that there's a policy that allows Military members and their dependents to have their I693 completed by their military doctors FREE of charge. He gave me a copy of the policy and told me to spread the news. I got the link posted below on uscis.gov using the policy memo number PM-602-0074.

Thank you for posting, this will be useful to alot of military families on this site. I was not sure if it was possible to see my Primary Care Manager for my medical so I just went to the USCIS designated civil surgeons. Just completed the process. I'll be filing to Tricare for reimbursement.

  3. Today I received a letter from my local USCIS office stating ''You must submit form to I-693, Adjustment of status Applicant's Documenttion of Immunizations. Only a designated civil surgeon authorized by CIS to conduct medical examination is qualified to complete the Supplemental form to I-693. Comply and mail by (date) or your application may be denied''

I submitted my immunization record that I did before I came to the US. Please, Is there anyone who has any idea how I should go about this? Thank you

  4. It is not easy trying to get a job in a new country, it takes alot of patience and resilience. Why do you feel the need to compare the Mexican job market to the American one? First you need to stop doing that and just try and learn/understand the new country that you intend to work in. I am from Kenya, got my EAD 4 weeks ago. Been applying for jobs as well and so far i have had two interviews with two different companies....hoping the third time is a charm. Considering I am in Texas and I do not speak spanish.

Maybe you can try and do a walk in, some employers like that. Most jobs here, however, require an online application. After application, wait a few days and make a call to do follow up.

Like you said, you just got your EAD a week ago so it's way too early to complain don't you think? All the best as you look for work!

Hope i do not sound too harsh....lol! Nothing but the best.

  5. Regardless of wheather he is marine or not, you are required to file through USCIS just like everyone else. There is no way you can file on base, the only thing the military can provide you with is:

    1) A lawyer if you request for one (My then fiance did and we got a lawyer via the military for free)

    2) His deployment orders. It will be dvantageous for you to submit your application together with his deployment orders, with a letter attached requesting for expedite processing.

    Good luck

Pardon me for the typo, i meant 'advantageous' . idea9dv.gif it happens!

  6. Huge age difference is sometimes a red flag (especially if the female is older than the male partner) Therefore, you need to be able to provide enough evidence to prove that your relationship is bonafide and not for immigration purposes. Take it as a good sign that you were not denied, use the second interview to provide enough evidence. Have confidence in your relationship and be honest about it. All the best.

  7. my fiance is in military (active duty) should he fill W2 or 1040?

Thank you and God bless those who will reply.

My fiance (now Husband) is also active military, he sent me his W2's to accompany the affidavit of support but during my interview at the embassy, they only asked for the affidavit of support; the W2's are just evidence of his income and they did not need that but make sure you have it just in case. Your fiance can print them online through his military account. That is all you need!!

  8. Hi guys, it finally went through. It seems the lady who was at the office did not have a clue about the procedure. My husband enrolled me into DEERS on Thursday and on Friday i showed up with him to get my military ID, after that i went to the TRICARE office, registered and even scheduled an appointment to see the doctor on Monday. To top it up, they didn't even use the A#.

Thanks for your comments and advise

  9. Here is what he had to say:

The documentation needed is essentially the same regardless citizenship.

You will need the Marriage Lic., Foreign Birth Cert. (with English translation in applicable), Social Security Card (if she doesn’t have one a Temporary ID Number (TIN) can be generated at the DEERS office), & Photo ID (Driver’s Lic., Resident ID, Passport, etc.).

This is helpful. Thank you Greg n Veronica.

  10. Not true - my wife and step daughter were enrolled in DEERS before they got their social security number. They used the alien number "A" number in lieu of the social security number. They told us that when my wife and step daughter got their social security number, to come back and have the data changed.

Heck, my wife was referred to a neurosurgeon by TRICARE before having her social security number.

Thank you, but i do not understand why the lady at the office was so adamant about it. My hubby will try and get some assistance from his first sergeant. We'll see how it goes.

  11. Hi everyone. I've been in the US for five days now, we got married two days after i got here, my now husband is busy with training and he may be receiving new orders soon so he planned for us to get married as soon as possible. Yesterday he took our marriage certificate and my personal documents to the DEERS office so that i can be enrolled but they requested him to provide my SSN before i could be enrolled. Did any of you experience this? Any comments, advise will be appreciated. Thanks!

  12. My fiance petition I-129F approved April 8, 2013, I confirmed it on USCIS website that we are approved.

I did not yet received any confirmation via email or sms, only my fiance give me a call today.

Please anyone suggest what would I prepare for the meantime that I am waiting NOA2 copy....

Thank you so much for any assessment of my worries.

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):

1.A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).

2.Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.

3.Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).

4.I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.

5.You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.

6.A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.

7.Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).

Examples: Copies of land line and cell phone bills, appropriate emails and letters you have sent including the stamps on envelopes (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

This is the link to the complete guide: http://www.visajourn...content/k1guide

Best of luck in the next steps!
