My oath ceremony letter requested I be there at 9am, so I was. The organizing and handling of people went on until we finally were moved into the auditorium about 945am. You and your guests should arrive by 830am.
lol strong advice. Ceremony starts at 10am doors open at 9:30am, finally was able to get through to the venue and get the info. Guests can arrive upto 10am.

There's nothing unusual about the interviewer's request. Most marriage based applicants take all these things with them to the interview in case they are asked for. At the interview you are required to prove that you are eligible for naturalization. For marriage based applicants that means proving that you are in a bonefide legitimate relationship.
Yes, if you don't have strong evidence ie. lots of money tied up in the relationship for example: property together or life insurance with your spouse as the beneficiary then more is likely to be requested.
We had over $1million just in the two examples above so the only question my IO asked was "is your name spelled correctly for your certificate?"

I guess I should have said "End of Week #2". Tomorrow starts Week #3.. I guess this means my wife is still sitting at "Recommended for Approval" but is not yet "Approved".
An August trip for my b-day is looking less and less likely...
My understanding is a text stating inline for oath means you're approved (no longer recommended) and they just need to assign a spot for you at an upcoming ceremony.
Google up coming oath ceremony dates in your area. Some forums say first Tuesday or the month or something like that. You can plan your trip around that or call your office for the info. Worst case you just reschedule your ceremony.

Yes. You get a text for inline and a text for letter sent. Usually 3 days later you get the letter in the mail

I know I had never even heard of them before I met my wife. And, that my lifelong USC parents have said "That's absolutely ridiculous!!" more than once during this process. And, this coming from my Mom who worked for the Federal Government for 40 years! (NOT USCIS!! lol)
I get people who have never done anything with USCIS telling me things that are totally wrong about immigration all the time. Its amazing the amount of ignorance there is about immigration law with the general public. But I guess you can say that about most topics.
isn't it funny how if our USC spouses hadn't married us foreign spouses, that they would never have even known about all this immigration BS? My in-laws are always in awe of how much #### we've been through and HAD TO PAY FOR.
Yeah my in-laws are surprised at how much time and money I have spent to become a USC legally when there are so many illegal immigrants being supported by the very same government! It's such a joke.
This whole process feels like a slap in the face when nothing is done about millions of people who have overstayed or come to the US illegally. And in some aspects the illegal immigrants are being treated better than citizens and immigrants coming here legally.
So much blindness and corruption. smh
Edit: I'm very grateful I have four other citizenship's to safe/free countries which I can move my family to if we ever decide to leave the US.

When were you scheduled to arrive? What time did they stop accepting people in?
I heard ceremonies start at 10am and applicants were requested to be there at 8:30 but some people didn't bother showing up till 9am but still got in...

No you didn't. I didn't post a detailed description of my glorified "meet and greet" (interview).
I was 10 mins early was interviewed 5 mins after my scheduled time was out after 10 mins. IO was a friendly mom type and only did the minimum asking the easiest questions etc. 99% of the interviews I read on here were more thorough.

I don't think all venues offer passport application or voter registration stands after the ceremony. If they do, new citizens could finish up everything right after the ceremony but I could only imagine long lines at those tables. If your application form and photo ready in hand, you could apply where ever you want (post office, passport application center, etc). We applied for my daughter's passport at a post office last month, we downloaded and filled the form ahead before we get there, it only takes few minutes for the officer to go over it and done! very very easy process.
Thanks for your reply. I did a US passport for my daughter last year, it's pretty easy. I'm filling out the form now and don't plan on joining any long lines to register to vote or to get a passport at the oath venue. I value my vacation time

Unless the ceremony ends late, you can apply for a passport that same day. Most post offices accept passport applications until 4-5pm.
Oh so you're applying at the post office and not at the ceremony venue? What do they offer after the ceremony? Just hardcopies of the application?

you can pick the passport application. you can only apply once you have naturalization certificate in hand. so not same day.
So if you bring in passport photos can you apply for the passport after the ceremony? or just pick up an application and apply at a later date?

I think here in Houston it's the same... they tell you to be there at 7 and you end up leaving around 12 or 1. Almost all that time is registering, turning in your green card, checking your certificate, and finding your seat... then waiting for 1499 others to do the same thing. Doesn't sound like something I'd want to bring guests to to be honest.
Most ceremonies don't have a limit on guests, but some do just because of the capacity of the venue. If the ceremony letter says 1 guest, then I would bring 1 guest... if there isn't room, they're not going to crowd people who followed the instructions to accommodate those who didn't... they're going to tell the extra guests to wait outside. At least that's how I'd hope it would work... but of course, exceptions are always made...
In some locations (one of the NYC locations for example), no guests are allowed in the room... they have to watch on a TV in a room on another floor. Meanwhile in Houston, you've got 1500 applicants with as many guests as they want and screaming children running around; easily over 5000 people in the hall.
If you can't make it to the ceremony, you need to reschedule. If you don't reschedule and you miss your oath, you get 1 more chance (after providing a written explanation). If you miss your second appointment, your application is denied and you have to reapply.
If you turn up late for the ceremony, they can decide whether or not to let you in... if you've missed the oath, then you're not a citizen; if you're in time for the oath then you are. If you get a really nice judge or administrator, then they may administer the oath separately after everyone else is done (this has happened but isn't at all likely).
You do not become a citizen until you take the oath. In very rare cases, USCIS will make hospital visits to administer the oath. In even rarer cases, the oath may be waived (as in the cases of posthumous naturalization).

For example if the ceremony starts at 10am but you're requested to be there at 8am can your guests turn up at 9:30am? What if the applicant doesn't turn up till 9am or 9:30am since the questionnaire shouldn't take 2 hrs to fill out?
Can you apply for a passport and register to vote while you wait 2 hrs? or should I just bring a good book to read?

Wow, 4-5 hrs? 1 guest only, what if you have young children? No thanks. I'm guessing/hoping this is the worst case scenario. I know 4 ppl that are planning on coming to my oath ceremony.
Is the oath ceremony the only way of receiving a naturalization certificate? What happens in the case of the applicant being sick or even hospitalized? Is the only option to reschedule? What happens if you turn up late to the ceremony?
Hopefully Jimmy is able to respond to this.

Remember you're judging someone through the lens of the media you are receiving this information on. You don't know Trump personally.
Most businesses do, expenses, deductibles. Can't wait till he implements tax cuts and eliminates all the waste of taxpayers money, he's already made a start. Now I won't feel as bad paying my taxes knowing that someone isn't wasting it on bad deals. I did get a $7,000 tax refund this year which brought my tax rate down to 15%. I can't wait to see what my tax rate is for 2017!!
I'd be skeptical of the validity of those "tweets". I voted prolife, I voted for Trump. Sorry, I have no regrets.
He's following through on his campaign promises without hesitation. Why are people so shocked? I have no idea! Perhaps, no one is use to things getting done so quickly in government. We should be celebrating this, especially after the extremely lengthy process we have all been (or still) going through.
