That's what I've been looking at every day, seems to have way more listings than Craigslist & any other site.
Had an interview at a vet clinic on Thursday (which is my field and exactly what I've been looking for!) Have a 'work interview' Monday for 2 hours, hopefully it goes well and I get the job. Unfortunately it means I won't be going home to visit August 2nd - 14th like I had planned, luckily didn't buy a ticket..but was so excited about seeing my friends and family..will have to wait until Christmas if I get it... but I need the job so that's okay.
I tried to look at indeed, craiglist and some other sites too, but I didn't apply to any of it because I felt like they will receive tons of resumes other than me. What I did was walked in to the place I wanted and asked if they're hiring and they said yes. So I sent my resume by email and got the respond the next day. I think walk in and ask is one of the best way.
keep trying, you'll find a job soon.

Yeah, I know, right?! Seems like 4-6 weeks is the standard waiting time for DHS verification (from reading). I received my original SS card in maiden name 4 days after applying, so this baffled me too.
Great to hear though you have a positive experience with SSA.
As for the job hunting, next topic please! ...
Yeah, no luck yet. On the verge of probably getting internship or maybe study, if I don't get anything within 3 months. But I am still hopeful. It's frustrating but just like with anything else in this process, we just have to be positive.
You'll get a job soon. Keep on Praying and trying.

Ohh, I just received my new SS card in married name after 4 weeks (Changed last name on June 6). Hope you get yours soon as well.
4 weeks? That's pretty long. Two weeks ago I updated my status for the SS and they told me that I actually still in my maiden name before the update (SS mistake) so my first SS card was on my married name while in their system saved my maiden name, isn't it weird? BUT that kind lady helped me to update it to my married name on the spot and I received my new SS card in the next 4 days.
btw, did you find a job yet?

I did ask because I wanted to know what type of jobs immigrants easily get hired on. I wasn't doubting if your job is a scam or what. In fact I am genuinely happy to see your post because this is a positive one as compared to the other threads where people are really having a hard time looking for a job. What I didn't expect is that you don't seem to want to share even just the nature of the job. People in this forum are very generous with information that will help each other. You asked for advice and people gave it to you without hesitations. I was kind of hoping you extend the same courtesy on people who ask you a very basic query. But never mind, I’m just airing my thoughts here. Anyways, good luck on your new job and it’s a good thing that you are already enjoying.
You didn't mention that you wanted to know "what type of jobs immigrants easily get hired" because this thread is only asked the suggestions from people who have had the experience so I feel like I don't need to put the job detail in my thread because my question was about do & don't in an interview generally.
If you have question related to jobs you may want to start a new thread so other people could also help and I will will be happy to share it in your thread

Wow this is fast!! Congrats on getting the job and hope that the package is good
May I ask what type of job did you apply for?
Thank you! I started on July 1st and I'm enjoying my 2nd week of work.
Hmm. Something seems off here. What sort of job did you apply for? (I know several people have asked and you haven't replied. People are asking because there are scams that look like jobs, and run an awful lot like these "come in for orientation" type things without actually being hired, etc.)
Nothing seems off here. This is not a scam

Thanks, Autumn! I have sent out at least 15 resume now to different positions & companies which are similar to my professional background since I received my EAD/AP card, but no luck! Maybe I need your lucky charm now.....
So these past few days, I am taking more time to revise my resume and cover letter to appear more fitting to the job postings I am very interested with. Sometimes, I think I should just change to a whole different career or industry. It's very frustrating. But I'm looking at it as a challenge, just to keep myself moving forward.
Excited for you tomorrow!
My lucky charm is Prayer
I was thinking the same too cuz I don't have the job's license yet and I don't have any background check/US reference but God still wants me to work on the same field I did before and I'm so thankful.
Hope you'll get a job soon, Sweet Cakes!
btw, try to apply to a company that have a statement about "no discrimination on gender, religion, citizenship/residence status, skin color, etc".. I noticed that some companies put that and some don't. The place that hired me has that statement on their work application.

That's soooo awesome, Autumn!!! I am also busy revising my resume and drafting different cover letters to all the job positions I am eyeing. It's sooo exhausting, but I am getting tired of this vacaaaaation. Hahaha.
All the best to your new job!
Thanks, Sweet Cakes!
I still can't believe that tomorrow I will finally do the job I love. The process was really fast. 8 days after I received my GC I finally able to work. It was my first work application I sent, it's the only one I sent and they hired me. I was thinking that if this application failed then I will change my field but God still want me to do what I always did in my country so I feel so blessed.
Hope you can finish your resume and will be able to finally send it off to some places.
Good luck, my friend!
Amen, sister! I'll be giving you all a full rundown tomorrow after it's all over! LOL - I read other interview experiences and some people mentioned how the IO gets suspicious if we're too affectionate. The hubby and I are very affectionate, always holding hands and reaching out to touch the other, so when I mentioned this to my friends at lunch yesterday, one of my girls said, "That's easy! Just bicker! Then they'll totally know you're in a real marriage!"
Right on! I'll start picking on hubby the moment he sits down in the office, like - "Honey, I wish you would've worn a different shirt," or "Honey, I wanted to sit there! Why do you always sit to the left of me?" LOL - just kidding!!!
Good luck on the interview!

PRAISE GOD!
I WILL START WORKING TOMORROW!
for those who still looking for a job after you got the GC, keep Praying cuz God is preparing a good job for you according to His will.

Ohh, I just got my Approval letter now with the GC!!
Ahh, cool, Autumn! At least now your new SS card will no longer have that "DHS authorization" wording. High 5!
Yeah. High five!
don't forget to update yours.
-
I actually remembered you, Autumn, when it flew directly to Card production. But unlike you, I never received any approval letter <yet>.
Hey Autumn! Did you go back to SSA after you received your EAD/AP card and updated to your new last name? If so, you don't have to go back there now that you received your GC. You can, but it's only optional. Here's a recent thread that I read about it: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/496222-updating-ssn-card-after-ead-issued/
-But if you haven't returned to SSA to update your last name and to update them that you are now work-authorized, then you have to.
Maybe you'll receive the approval letter soon.
anyways, I just got back from the SSA to update my SSN status. The officer reminded me to come back and update my SSN again when I receive my 10 years GC.
btw, I didn't update my SSN status when I received my EAD cuz I got my GC two weeks after I received my EAD, lol
-
Ok guys, i have a question.
what should we do with our SSN card? Do we have to go to SSA office to update our status in their system since we have our GC now?
-
Congrats to everyone who got their GC already! Next Tursday is our big interview day.... Eek! LOL!
Thank you!
good luck for the coming interview!
I received my GC today so my leg of this journey is finally completed. Thank you VJ! Good luck to all the remaining filers.. See you guys in 2 years..(By God's grace)
Congratulations!
I got my green card today in the mail.
Congratulations!
-
It flew straight from Acceptance to Card production, that's why I'm so high-spirited right now. Happy happy, joy joy ...
Ahh, Finally!
Congratulations, sweet cakes!
-
I hope so. I just got an email and they said that they enjoyed spending time with me yesterday and they asked me to come again on Friday for an observation. On Friday I'll ask more about it and all the things i need to know.
-
I think I will have the answer on Friday then will have the orientation after signing papers.
-
Yes, right! Every state has different driving test handbook. Hubby downloaded mine online from DMV website.
Yes, different state different test. I got the handbook but was looking for a link that provides test for each state, and I just found one.
-
Hi Autumn. The written/ knowledge test is different for each state. For me, I just googled using search terms "NJ DMV practice test". Can't see which state you're from.
Yeah, i know that different state has different test. I just found a pretty cool link. Thanks, sweet cakes!
-
Does anyone know any free online driving test to practice before we do the real test?
please share the link.
-
Hi everyone,
Thank you for all the feedback.
I had the interview today and it went well.
They asked me when can I start working.
They said that they will call me on Thursday and asked me to come on Friday for the orientation, the orientation itself will be for a week. They didn't talk
about salary though.
Does that mean they will hire me?
-
You guys are so lucky, congrats on getting your GC. Wow! I haven't heard anything from uscis yet. But I don't wanna start sulking about it now, I'll just work hard instead. They can give me my GC next year if they want or as long as my work permit still valid, there will be no prob with me.
Thank you!
hope you'll get yours soon.
-
Okay. Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!
-
You should always carry your GC with you. It is stated on the letter when they mailed the GC.
Use the small envelope that came with it.
The envelope provides protection for the GC, then she can put it in her wallet or card case.
Is it safe to give copy of our GC to workplace if they ask it?
-
I would suggest carrying it with you at all times. My wife got pulled over when the police ran her license it showed she was a legal resident he asked if she had her green card on her which she didnt He told her to always carry it but that was it no ticket or anything came of it.
Does she put the GC in the small envelope that came with it when she received it?
-
After 2,5 months waiting, I finally get my GC.
I have questions.
Where do you keep your GC?
Do you carry it with you everywhere you go? or you leave it at home?
Do we really have to put it in the small envelope that came with it?
Is it ok to give copy front and back of my GC if a workplace that will hire me need it as a document at work?
