Hi again People of Vj
I dont know what i would do without your advice and words guys ! .. I am getting very stressed with all these paperwork that needs to be done , and i only have 1 MONTH before my I-94 expires !! ..Today i went to collect my Driver Licence and yeah they didnt want to use my married name . Thats ridiculous . THey said if i had a paper where it shows that i am applying for Residence as a proof that I will stay here ! So they issue me the licence just for one month ! .. I cant wait for my husband to drive me.. THere are so many things to have done and waiting at home would depress me even more . So now at least i have ONE MONTH to be going around legally.
Again i do not know what i would be doing without your help guys ,, Especially the ones who have gone through THE AOS PROCESS ..
Here i have some questions that i would appreciate FONDLY if you can write me your feed backs .. I
For instance there is the I-693 FORM required The Medical Exam. I was really pissed off the first time i went to the doctor for the K1 ...He charged me almost 400$ for NOTHING
he didnt even have a scale in his office ... He just wanted the money and spent probably 10 minutes no more than that ! .. I dont want even think about that day again. It just makes me angry how those those people can even called "doctors" ..Anyway, that happen the 18 of November .. So here the question goes
DO I HAVE TO GO TO A SURGEON this Time ??? ! And if it is so what part of the form he has to fill out ?? DO you know how much those people charge ??
I have a copy of the vaccination form that the other "doctor" filled out ... Would that be enough ?? I also have a CD from the last time ...
And as far as the Electronic I-94 copy ... In the VJ site mentions a "front and back " ,,, I have printed out that form but it surely does NOT have a Back part at all...
Or am i mistaken ?
And last question before i go : How did you guys do with your driver licence .. Is it the same story in all the states ??? What should i do to extend the expiration of it .
They were NOT helpful at all .. In fact the guy i talked to yesterday was so nice .. But since i was running late i had to come back today and other dudes got into my papers
and they didnt even want to grant me the DL .. But i was getting a little furious and i said that i am bringing all what the sheet of requirements is asking for !
What do you make it so difficult? Anyway.. Fortunately i believe i am not the only one that has to go through all these non sense .
Thank You ALL in advance !!
-
I am already married . What happens is that our insurance company for our cars is requring DL from PA !!
Wait until you get married and have your EAD on hand and then get your US driver's license. In the meantime use your Canadian DL. It sucks but that is the least complicated way and will save you several trips to the DMV.
-
So i just came from Pennsylvania driving center place and told me that if i get a licence it will only be valid until my i-94 is valid !!?? and that is going to be the 12 of March !
WHat can i do after that ??? Any of you have gone through that experience ... All this travelling from place to place trying to find answers is wearing me out..
I am really tired of this non sense paperwork .
-
Thanks ! I just did that... So no problem now !
You can change your SSC at the local office as long as you bring your marriage license and passport. They may want other documents so call ahead and ask. I would wait personally and change everything after you receive your EAD or GC. It will be easier to change all documentation at one time. But like others said above your name does not have to be your married name for you to be on your husband health insurance.
-
Hey thanks for your reply ! ,, It isnt confusing , I know what you mean , I am working on my AOS package now and just called the SS office. They will change my name with my husbands' , just need to bring my marriage licence again :-P ... thanks anyways !
Maribel,
It is your choice to change your name. You can do what you want. I never suggested what you should or should not do.
What I said was, that your insurance company cannot make you change your name to get health insurance. That is illegal.
So you do NOT need to change your name to get health insurance. So that is not your problem.
If they cannot insure you under your married name yet, because of your SSN, then there isn't a lot you can do. You can try to take your marriage license and get your name changed on it, but the SSA might not do it for you until you get your Employment authorization in your new married name. EAD means Employment Authorization Document. You apply for that with your big Adjustment of Status packet. You need to apply for Adjustment of status to remain legal in the US.
If this is confusing to you, maybe your husband should come here and read this.
And once again agree with Darnell they are retards :-P .. At least the weather isnt too bad ..so i can get out there once again

i agree.
then the work health insurance human is a retardo.
yes i know it is not a requirement for a wife to change her name but i do . It is my choice. What is a EAD
You do NOT need to get it changed for health insurance. There is NO requirement that a wife change her name after marriage. Your husband should not accept that.
You can change your SSN once you get your EAD or GC in your married name.
But the one you have now in maiden name is perfectly good for everything.
-
Hey guys,,,
Just got my SSC today but it has my birth name and last name. I need to change it with my husband last name in order to get health insurance from his work
Have any of you gone through something similar.. What did you do ?
Thanks a lot !!

Thanks a million !

3. Form I-485: Petition for Alien Relative (note: use the non US Citizen spouse's married name on this form and list previous name/names)
You should actually use the married name on all 3 forms for AOS, if that is the name you will go by from now on.
-
SO I have started filling out and there is a question ::: My currently USCIS status ??? ,,,should i write my name as the married one or the one that shows in my passport ??
-
I am reading it .. That is a really insane amount ..
-
and yes i agree with most of the people here : NO NEED of a lawyer... unless your situation is too complicated...then maybe it is worthy...
-
Darnell...how much does it cost the AOS package ??? 600$ or 1000$ .... i have no idea

to the OP
most of the raw data you need for filing AOS
is already on all of the paperwork submitted when you were chasing the K-1
so
if you can transcribe well, no need for the attorney.

People of Visa Journey,
Here again to ask your support and advice. I am a K1 holder, I got married exact 28 days ago.. My honey and i celebrated our 1 month as a married couple last night <3.
I am really thankful for such a loving husband . Last week, i applied for my SSN,, they told me that it will arrive in 2 weeks...BTW they said that when it comes it will be with the names in my old documents, NOT with mine husband's last name... Did it happen to you as well ??? or is this state (PA) which i notice they make things too complicated , My husband and i have a long list of the reasons why !!.... Anyway.. Now i just realized that i need to get back on TRACK as far as my AOS package... and searching in this awesome site i found this information about how to proceed with my AOS .
http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos
but i just wanted to make sure that that link is UPDATED .. If you have gone through that step and could help me with a feed back would be so appreciated !

Maybe, In my case my fiance showed his passport at the entrance, I think that will make it easier
He doesn't need a passport to drive through the borders, he will only need it if he flies internationally. He's crossed the border by land many times with his enhance drivers license. Since we will be driving to Montreal from Toronto, crossing the border for him will not be an issue.
My question is if he can get into the consulate with his enhanced DL, since and birth certificate only.
-
Unfortunately , he has to get a passport . There are two options one is like a card that looks like a driver licence , the other one like a little notebook BUT either one will have to
be applied in advance. :-/

we really wish could meet you sometime face to face !! - You have been such a great help during this process , especially in the last most stressful parts of it.
Thank YOU , Thank You, Thank YOU ! - Our wedding will be the 27th of this month and we are looking forward to be husband and wife for many years.
I will definetely keep in touch with you , Thanks for the info of what to do after we are married. When do you think could be a good time to start the AOS process ?
January 2nd ?? ) -- How to begin !! - You must understand that after a whole year getting dizzy with all these paperwork, The least i want is start thinking about
another whole process again.. But i know it is a MUST DO - I just dont want to think about it until the 2 of January 2014 -
Anyway. Could You send me the steps for this process please - Where i can get those forms ? How much does it cost to do this ?
Please Need your help Once again !!
Merry Christmas and Blessings in Your Marriage
Yea God!!! So you have the visa in the passport and the envelope that says "Do Not Open." What happens next is you enter the USA through a POE (Port Of Entry) such as the airport or a land border crossing. What happens is when you get to the POE is you will go to secondary, the CBP officer will take your envelope and verify some of the information on your petition such as the address you will be living at. Then after you have cleared the POE you and Kyle will get married within 90 days of your entry. After getting married you will wait for your marriage certificate and then file forms I-485 AOS (Adjustment Of Status), I-131 AP(Advanced Parole) so that you can travel and I-765 EAD(Employment Authorization Document) so that you can work while the AOS is in process. The AP/EAD will take from 60-90 days to get approved and then it will take anywhere from 4mths-1yr for you AOS to be approved. After AOS is approved you will receive your 2 yr GC(Green Card). With the SSN you have the choice of getting it before or after you get married. I would suggest getting it before and just changing your name on it once you get married.

Hi there
I just got my passport back today !! . Wondering what comes after and what is a POE - btw it says that this visa will expire may 2014 ..what are the next steps
I got mine one week to date, only because the scanner at the Loomis facility was broke. If it has left the consulate and you do not receive it by end of next week I would call Loomis and ask for the number to get it tracked to see where it is. Did they give you a waybill number yet? If so, keep checking the Loomis website to see where the visa is at. Blessings and will be praying that you get your visa soon and have a smooth POE.

So we had our interview the 25th of November and so far no sign of where my passport is now. The Visa Officer told us that we would get it back within 7- 10 days
but nothing . I am getting anxious.I dont want to spend one more Christmas by myself.
If you guys can tell me your experience waiting for your passport would be encouraging ... !
-
Nope, We had a nice interviewer , he was from Colombia , It was fun for me since i started to speak a little spanish since i am from Peru.
The interview was the easiest part of all. The hardest i would say to stand in the cold for almost an hour. I felt to faint since my blood pressure was dropping too low.
Did you have the lady with the dread locks?
-
Interview process went as expected. We stayed at Days Inn. Parking per day was $20 dollars. Since we drove from London to Montreal we thought it was best to arrive a day earlier than scheduled because it made the trip less stressful than it already was. I highly suggest a GPS if you don’t speak French because everything is in French. It seems that everyone on the forum mentions lining up early in the morning is best however our experience was that you just stand in the cold until 7:45 when the doors open and once you are let in the people who waited the longest got shuffled around anyway due to the elevator. Our guess is that if you line up early and try to adjust yourself in the elevator properly you might save yourself 15-20 minutes of waiting depending on how long the line is however like mentioned above you will spend an hour or longer in the cold outside. Another tip is that you don’t need a lawyer to do the paper work for you. If you read the government documents and use visa journey as a guide anyone can complete the process on their own given time. The questions were typical dealing with how our relationship began, work, and plans for the future. (Don’t be like Sir Robin and assume you will get easy questions though… Monty python joke http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b4bGAoVR7g)
The photo album wasn't even asked for although my fiancee wanted to show the pictures anyway after we were approved :-P. In conclusion, visa journey made the process much easier and is a comprehensive guide to the government documentation.

The woman who answers the phone in that Lyndon Mascarenhas) Clinic is the worse i ever had to talked in my life... i am just going there because it is the closest from where i am coming from .. Otherwise i would not suggest to anybody.
Could You please let me know what should i bring for that day ... Is it true that they would ask me for the interview letter confirmation page with a barcode ??
I printed my confirmation interview page from the website of montreal consulate but it DID NOT came out with a barcode in it !
-
Thanks for the info , although i would not recommend to go to that clinic , The receptionist or whoever she is ..It was really a pain calling to that place
she is so rude and doesnt even speak a good english .. Anyway, im just going there because is the closest place to London.
Dr. Lyndon Mascarenhas
200 St. Claire Ave. W. Suite 101-W Toronto, ON M4V 1R1 416-960-1014
I booked my appointment a week in advance, they sounded flexible with the times and dates available.
The building is right on the north corner of St. Clair and the first street west of Avenue Road. Easy to get to, just one block west from St. Clair TTC station. There is a parking lot right out front for $10 cash also.
The office is suite 101W, which is at the very end, through a corridor and another set of doors. Receptionist asked for P4 letter, passport, vaccination record and 2 photos. I only had a print out of my P4 letter from an email, but the receptionist wanted the mailed letter which has a barcode. I said this is the only letter I had and she accepted it eventually after I showed her that it does have the case number printed inside.
After copying my documents, she gave them back to me and kept the photos. Then I waited for 20min, after which the receptionist gave me two forms for blood work and X-rays, which are done in labs suite 100 and 114.
Blood work asks you to take a number, and after a few minutes I was called into a little booth. Nurse took one vial of blood, and that was it.
At the X-ray lab, I waited a few minutes, then I was called in to change into a short paper gown just for the waist up, and the X-ray took just a minute. Then I changed back and went back to the doctor office to wait.
The doctor check up was very straight forward. He asked me a bunch of basic questions (e.g. height/weight in metric, history of heart/kidney problems, mental problems, etc.) and checks them off on a form. I don't have any medical problems, so that went quick. I also had gone to my family doctor the week before and got all the vaccinations I needed, and the doctor said that was very helpful. He took my blood pressure, and that was it. I paid him the $300 in cash, he wrote me a receipt. He told me they will call me when the results are ready.
I got there 15 minutes late for my scheduled appointment, but still finished in less than an hour.

Medical for AOS - Do i have to pay all OVER AGAIN ?
in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas
