Hi,

I just recently became a U.S. citizen and I have immigrated my children from overseas about 2 months ago as children of the LPR so they both have green cards through me. My question is - is there a statutory wait period of length of their residency before I can start their citizenship process? Mainly I want to take them to Passport Agency and apply for the passports but can't really find any reliable information regarding length of the residency. If anyone has any sufficient information or experience I would very much appreciate that.

So when I fill it out, I am petitioning for my - Child . Correct?

Hi guys,

Just have few general qustions regarding this situation:

When a U.S. Citizen petitons his spouse who's already in the U.S. And that spouse wants to bring her unmaried under 21 child, how I-130 is filled out?

Technically U.S. Citizen is still a petitioner of his spouse's child until she becomes a resident, correct?

Please let me know what's the right way to fill out I-130?

Any guidance is truly appreciated! Thank you!!

So here's my situation... Submitted all the required docs to NVC back in May 8th and since I haven't received any response until today decided to call them. Well, turns out my parents cases were completed in June 8th and I had absolutely no clue about it. Haven't received any emails and NVC website didn't indicated any updates for some reason... They told me they are waiting for an interview to be scheduled by local embassy (Tbilisi, Georgia) and after that they will re-route the files to them... I've been reading some of you guys got your interviews scheduled within few days after cc so consider yourself happy because technically it's been more than a month for me and no interview date yet hopefully they will schedule it soon.

Hi everyone,

I'm not new to immigration procedures, but this IR5 process got me little confused. I'm petitioning my both parents. I-130 was approved few months ago then it got transferred to NVC, I have paid all the fees and submitted their online applications. The only thing that's left is to send AOS & IV package. Now here's the question: on I-864... Do I have to file 2 separate forms or just fill out 1? Already filled out 1 application, but some questions are super confusing and comes into conflict.

Let's say Part 3, Q2 - I am sponsoring the following family members immigrating at the same time or within 6 months of the principal immigrant named in Part 2.Do not include any relatives listed on a separate visa petition.

I don't get it, my parents are immigrating together, but obviously their I-130's were filed separately, now do I have to list for instance my dad in Part 3 or fill out separate I-864?

Any help is extremely appreciated.

Here's my major confusion. In I-130 there's a question in part C , question 22. If my relatives are in U.S. and if they are going to apply for adjustment of status. NO they are not in U.S. but below that same question indicated that, if they're not in U.S. then fill out in which consulate are they going to apply for a visa. I'm trying to find the answer and going crazy, because it seems so freaking confusing. I'm surfing all over the internet and people are giving mixed up answers. Do I have to list the consulate name or just ignore it? Question asks one thing and asks for both answers.... SOMEONE PLEASE ADVICE!! thank you...

I sent mine for both my wife and daughter in the same envelope, but I made sure to write a cover letter for each application explaining what is submitted for each and a global cover letter for both stating that I am sending two separate applications.

Example global cover letter:

Yes, you can send both together. It's better that way so they can be approved at the same time and sent to the NVC at the same time. They will be able to interview together and you will only have to pay the AOS fee once.

Just make sure since they are two separate cases, that you submit two separate of the required photocopies of docs (ie birth cert, translation, etc) one for each.

Hello everyone. I am a U.S. Citizen and about to start petition process for my parents. I have everything ready, just have 1 simple question before I go to post office and send it out. Can I put both applications in one envelope and send it out together or do I have to send them separately? I already have 2 separate $420 moneyorders, so I'm pretty much familiar with document stuff, just need to answer this one. Also, I know I can look this information up, but since I'm here I'll ask it as well. Which address should I use for express mail?

Hey guys I'm preparing my parents I-130's right now and I have one question. My parents are currently married but it's my father's second marriage. Application asks about prior marriages, so here's my question: do I have to send my father's divorce paperwork or just provide the information? Secondly, he didn't even remember the exact date of his divorce finalization. We only know that it was either Jan or Feb of 1987. Is it gonna be ok if we just say approximate date for example Feb 1987 and send it out like that? I really don't wanna lose the time trying to obtain divorce paperwork overseas. Please advice, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Congrats! Who is left from our 'cohort'?

I was, but until today. Had my oath ceremony today, everything went smooth. Right after it was over I went to Philadelphia passport agency and got my passport in 2 hours so I guess it's fair for me to say THAT'S IT:) I will update my info below.

Hey all,

So my N-400 appointment letter was mailed out on April 17. I did not receive it, but received an additional letter asking me to bring my driver's license to the appointment. When the 30 day mark hit with no letter, I called the number they give. The person on the phone took my information, gave me a confirmation number, and said good bye. I was confused because I didn't know what to expect, so I called back in a week. This new person apologized and said that if I had not received anything after 15 days to call back, and that the first person should have said this when he gave me my confirmation number the last time I called. Saturday was the 15 day mark, so I called back this morning. The new lady told me I need to wait 30 days from the day I got my confirmation letter.

How concerned should I be here? I'm scared that I'm booked for an appointment and I'm going to miss it because I haven't received any letter. They cannot tell me my appointment date and time on the phone but the next time I call it will have been a full two months (assuming I don't get a letter, which I feel like I should have gotten by now since it is sent out of Pittsburgh and I live within the city). Has anyone here experienced anything similar?

I wish you would have posted this issue little bit earlier.. As I was reading your first sentence I already knew what you were going to say.. Never ever take a word from customer service, because they only have access to general information, the exact one that you can look it up yourself on uscis.gov . Similar thing happened to me like 2 years ago, but thank god that I had this website.. My mail got lost and they created service request for me, but no response within 2 weeks.. Afterwords I found out here on VJ that you can request to be transferred to tier 2 officer and they can see literally everything on your file. I was being told that my appointment was next day and officer actually faxed me appointment copy.. That's how I survived. Since you already got you new appointment you don't have to worry about anything but just know for future references that such thing is possible good luck on your upcoming interview, you are almost done

Name change can delay your oath ceremony for as long as 6months. In usual circumstances when there's no name change involved you can be sworn in at administrative ceremony in your local office, but during name change USCIS doesn't have jurisdiction over name change, so you are required to attend judicial oath ceremony in court, because judge is the one who approves your legal name change. I had to wait 4months for my oath, but if there's no rush than just relax it will come soon. Try to call up customer service and request to be transferred to Tier 2 officer. They might already have your oath date and not send the notice 30 days prior the ceremony. That's what happened in my case. I hope it helps, good luck.

95% your A-file didn't get transferred from NBC to your local office and they had to cancel it for that reason. It's not biggie, happened to me in January. Try to show up on that cancelled interview anyway and they might already have your A-file by then. If not, don't worry you will get rescheduled within 2 months. Good luck

Yup, I showed up anyway and officer conducted the interview regardless. I requested a name change and because of that ended up waiting 4 months for oath ceremony, otherwise I would've been a citizen by now. System rescheduled me automatically after 1months from my initial interview (Jan 29th). I showed up anyway, but since decision was already made, supervisor told me that I was done and my oath was scheduled on June 16th. He offered me a same day oath in exchange of name change cancel, because USCIS doesn't have jurisdiction over name change, so I have to take my oath in district court. I decided to proceed with my name change since I already had my oath date. I received a notice 2 weeks ago and gotta wait another 2 to get it over with.

Don't pay anyone anything, that's the main reason why this website exists to help you through your immigration process without laywer/paralegal. Why would you pay any website for guidance? And plus you are confusing something here. I believe you think that $199 is a application fee for N400, which is absolutely not. It is probably just a third party website which offers you their service for that $199 and not official fees that you have to pay to government. Whenever you are ready to apply gather all the requiered documents and include check or money order of $680 and mail it USCIS. As far as eligibility goes, you have 2 options, either you have to be a permanent resident for at least 5 years or 3 years if your residency is based on marriage to a U.S. Citizen. In both cases you can apply 90 days before 5th or 3rd annyversary. I hope it helps, good luck.

Hey guys. I'm becoming a U.S. citizen in 2 weeks and want to start IR-5 process for my parents right after my oath ceremony. I've never involved laweyer/paralegal throughout the whole USCIS journey, so I'm not going to break that spirit now because of one simple reason, which is - VJ I'm happy to be over with my personal journey, but this upcoming one is even more important to me - bringing my parents to U.S. I know that probably 1000 people already asked the same questions, and trust me I went through a lot of threads, but there's are some misunderstanding that I need to cross of the list to be sure that everything is correct.

Can anyone please just break down the process from the scratch? As far as I know I have to fill out I-130 for my both parents, but I don't know what else do I have send? Is that what it takes to start the process?

P.S. My parents are currently overseas

I would really appreciate your help and support.
