My Mother-in-Law's flight (Non-OFW) back home is scheduled, leaving this THU for Manila. She has to take a swab test when she lands and wait for clearance. Once she gets the paperwork, she then needs to get on a local Air Asia Flight to Bacolod Island....
My question is, will she (actually WE) have to pay for ANOTHER swab test due to going on a new (but local) flight and to a new island? She will likely fly 2-4 days after landing depending on how long the first results take...
We cannot find any information on this. I want to make sure we give her enough $ if that's required since she's NON-OFW and we have to pay for all of this.
Thank you in advance if anyone knows this. Thank you! -

The Wife and I are considering keeping her here in the US until we hear back from immigration since we paid for the extension and have heard nothing yet...what if they come back with an "approved until end of year" and we could have kept her longer and allowed some of this craziness to go down? (assuming it does in the Philippines) which will make travel easier cause she wouldn't have to do a 3-day isolation thing possible twice there...she has to fly to Manila first, and then from Manila a short 45min flight to Bacolod...
Anyone have thoughts on this? Advice? We are really undecided on this point. If she flies we need to schedule the flight here in a few days, of it...it's a waiting game, and what if we don't EVER hear back from immigration? ;-\ -

Keep the proof of application (receipt) for i539 and proof of her exit date, for when she wants to come back again.
Will do! I just hope I can get Cheap'o'air to honor most/all of the original return flight we had to save as a voucher with them until now...they said they would work with me but I had to call. We'll see...

Back in 2001, my aunt applied for a visitor visa extension and stayed in the US for 9 months. She came to the US in March 2001. Her return flight was cancelled due to 9/11 and she had to apply for an extension as her I-94 was going to expire at the end of September 2001. She left the US in December 2001. The extension approval was received February 2002. She was able to get another visitor visa in 2004.
Your mother-in-law can leave anytime. It will not affect whether her extension is approved or not. That's something to deal with later. If she needs to go home, then take care of that.Thank you!!

I ended up filing for an extension for her to stay longer on her Tourist Visa...on it it said to request how long so I wrote at least until the end of August; this was a couple months longer than when she was supposed to go back....I paid, it was processed, but I've heard NOTHING...I don't know if it was approved....
I need to fly her back but the wife and I are concerned she's going to have a problem COMING back since they will see her stay here was expired...although we did file for an extension. We aren't honestly sure what we need to do since we've heard nothing about the extension being processed/approved, etc...
Should I just fly her back and provide her with whatever they say later on? (to come back another year; we don't want to get in trouble over this)
Thank you for any help! -
UPDATE: I was able to request a voucher to choose a later flight from the airline - yay, but I still have to contact USCIS and I'm hoping they are understanding, as the PH is currently in quarantine and I've heard they are not allowing flights until at least a week after she was supposed to fly...hopefully they give us a bit more time.
What is the best number to call? -
Hi everyone. She is here under a 6mo tourist Visa from the Philippines.
How can we best handle the situation; being sure if they're going to want her to fly back on her May 7th return flight we have booked? Will the airlines reschedule if UCSIS allows the delay, or expect us to cancel and pay again later?
Anyone dealing with this with a more recent return flight or one upcoming sooner who can speak on this and what happened?
Thank you.

thank you so much... i called them up just now, the number that you gave me... thanks a lot.. she told me to pay the visa fee and i can set up my son's appointment at the embassy... i dont why the agents from the US number made my concern sooo complicated... thank you again sunandmoon...
We need to do this!! We have a K2 to follow as well....what number did you call and get through?
Thanks!

We are hoping for a little hand-holding guidance (to get this rolling)....My wife came here about 7mo ago from the Philippines (we were married 4mo ago) we are currently waiting for her EAD card (anytime now, she had her biometrics done at the UCSIS here in Cincinnati, OH, so now it's EAD green card waiting time...
Her K1 visa was approved last JUNE, and we have a 'K2 to follow' on it (her daughter is listed on her applications), she will be turning 5 this Sept, and there was some birth certificate name drama going on with her EX hence the delay in getting her daughter here quicker. I plan on adopting her once she arrives (but that is a whole other topic)
Anyways, we want to get the ball moving on her daughter so we can take advantage of her being included on my wife's visa (which they say can be done within 1 year of her approval),
So far this is our progress:
1) Visa for wife, we are married, social security (non-work) card for her NOT in her married name yet (waiting for green card/EAD now.)
2.) Passport and immunizations done (by family doctor) for daughter in the Philippines.
I've read so much information, I'm getting a bit confused on the next steps...do we need to email someone at the UCSIS (what email address?) and give them our case number and let them know we have a K2 to follow and that's it (is that even needed?) but then second, do what? What forms (I129f, etc?) need to be filled out, and what can we do now considering we don't have a green card (aos finished) for my wife yet...
Sorry if I missed the post here that explains all this or I'm just too confused...any help appreciated SOOOO much!

Hi! My lovely wife is here now, we are married and will be celebrating our 30 of being married two days from now....
i just sent her AOS out on 12/31 (Sheesh it's pricey isn't it?)
Next we want to start focusing on the K2 that needs done. My wife has a daughter (I will be adopting her, she's not even 5 until Sept) still in the philippines that we still need to bring over, and she was declared on the K1, we were told we have 1 year to do so from my wife's via approval...
So far we our daughter *might get interviewed, will need medical tests...and that's it...that's all we know...
Is there a step by step K2 guide (when bringing the child later to the US) available somewhere?
My wife read somewhere that some organization (UCSIS?) needs to get the child's birth certificate at some point...and what papers must she have if they DO ask her for an interview...she will be going with her grandmother (again, she's not even 5 yet)
Any help appreciated, we love this site, and all of you,...you have all been sooooo helpful!

If married, you should use the name on your marriage certificate, since it was legally changed (most likely) from visa name. That way, you will get a SS card in the mail with married (legal) name, and no need to file for change of name. Will save you some time, if you happen to care about your paper card being correct.
We tried this, me and my wife, but we were told we could only file for a SSN with her maiden name because the INS (and her Visa) has her maiden name (even though we had certified marriage certificates with us), we'd have to go by the INS office to fix this to get the card issued in her married name the guy told us; so we just accepted it AS IS in her maiden name (about 1 week to go until we have it)...figure we can come back with SSN, AOS/green card and fix that later...am I correct?

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'll let you know how it goes!

I saw that, but it says nothing about immigrants, K1 or Visa holders. :-(

Thank you for the responses, I will be checking on this further, and we'll post what we find out! :-)

I'm hoping someone will can answer a question:, basically we want to get her SSN card/number AFTER the wedding if at all possible/allowed.
1.) In the STATE of OH, to get a marriage license IS A SSN required for her BEFORE the marriage license or will OH issue a marriage license without one for her? (we want to marry in 15 days, on the 21st) and she has been here for 10 days as of today....she arrived on a K1 Visa) we'd prefer to get it afterwards so we don't have to deal with a name change, plus the office is over 1 hour away, we'd rather do it later if possible! Our wedding is on Sept 21st; too much to do before that and would rather put this off (for now) IF POSSIBLE.
I've had a heck of time calling courts to try to get this info and just wondering if anyone here would be familiar with either the OH state law rule on this, or any federal ruling that takes precedence.
Thank you!

This thread was started 3 years ago, so it might have been a good idea to start your own thread for the most recent information.
The I-94 is now automated. You retrieve the info here > https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html
Contact your local county court where you will purchase the license and let them know she has no SSN. They will most likely have her use her passport instead. See what they tell you.
If you get the marriage certificate back from the court while you still have more than 2 weeks left on the I-94, then go to the SSA and attempt to apply for the SSN in her married name. Be aware that many SSA workers have no clue about immigration and what is needed and some will say she cannot get the SSN now that she is married, Some will say she is no longer on a K-1 because of the marriage, which is of course not true at all. You may need to speak to a supervisor, and if all else fails, return later when she has the EAD after filing for AOS. http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn
Thank you for the info! I will start my own thread about #1, hoping to find someone who just happens to know OH rule on this....as calling courts have proven to be a real chore.
Thanks again!

I'm hoping someone will can answer a couple basic questions:, basically with #1 I'm hoping for the opposite of the original posters issue..(we want to get her SSN card/number AFTER the wedding)
1.) In the STATE of OH, to get a marriage license (we want to marry in 15 days) and she has been here for 10 days as of today....IS A SSN required for her BEFORE the marriage license or will OH issue a marriage license without one for her? Our wedding is on Sept 21st, too much to do and would rather put this off for now IF POSSIBLE.
2.) I keep seeing reference to an I-94 form, which she never received, I pulled up an example to show her and she's positive she never filled it out or seen it before...they just stamped her passport, she didn't get any other forms...is that a problem?
-
*update: She went to the interview on the 23rd and she told me that both representatives she had to speak with were extremely kind and positive about everything, they only asked her a few questions total and they told her that except for needing to receive that paper she was missing the interview, that she would be APPROVED, no problem! AWESOME! SOOOO CLOSE!!! :-)

She can proceed with her interview. Just expect to get a 221g form for the lacking document. She will be instructed to mail it in via 2GO.
Oh okay, I didn't know she could still go....I will let her know, we DO have everything else in order....thank you!

My USPS package arrived to San Fernando, Cebu in 4 days (via Las Vegas). 4 lb 5.40oz , $66.95. Plus tax at San Fernando P50. After reading all the bad reviews about USPS, I was nervous. I might email all copies next time and use FedEx for the rest...whew
Happy yours was fine! Yeah I didn't want to take the chance, so I went fedex, they picked up and it was delivered only 2 business days later, 1.2LB, for an estimated $99-$107 (haven't been charged yes so don't know how much exactly yet), it's at Fedex location now according to tracking, just waiting for the word that my Fiancee was able to pick it up!!

I guess that's the great advantage of having to have sent the NVC everything rather than using your own funds to relay it across the world. I am always reminded just how much better it was for me to file a CR-1 rather than a K-1.

If I was to use any service to send paperwork to the Philippines I would use FedEx. I've always had more reliable service sending documents through them to other areas of the world as rare as that is these days.
Yup, I'm using FedEx, they are picking it up on MON and they say it should be there THU-ph, estimated a lb package, at about 85 sheets of paper, I wanted to make it easier for her so I printed out photos, emails, few chats where we talk about our upcoming marriage, etc..) and the quote was for $107...would have been $99 for 60 sheets of paper, so I figured I would just send all of it. Overall, cheaper than I was thinking it might be, but still, would have rather sent HER that money, but I realize this IS so much more valuable in the end!
-
NEVERMIND about the address above, UPS could not verify that it would be received as it's not ac actual UPS location, it's some shipping company that I have to get permission to recieve the package, etc...not worth the risk in my opinion...I'm having FEDEX pick it up tomorrow instead and shipping it....somewhere in Manila I guess, hopefully I can figure out where to soon.

International flight to Manila, then a local flight to Bacolod - Are two Swab tests needing to be paid?
