Everything went pretty well during our wait for AOS. The only thing that slowed it down was that my husband didn't have his Tax-returns at hand as we had been living in England for the last 11 years. That was quickly remedied by filing 3 years backtaxes and submitting copies date stamped by the local IRS (Oct-2012) .We had our Interview scheduled on the 15th jan in Buffalo which went really well. We left home in our car at 05:30 and arrived in Buffalo at 08:40. Our Interview was at 09:45 so we were a bit early. The security guards were very friendly as we arrived ,they quickly got us in to the building and directed us to another room to register. The lady there sent us upstairs for our appointment. We signed our name and time of arrival in a book at the little window,it was now 08:50. We sat down thinking we had a long wait ahead but at 09:00 a young lady came out and called our names . She directed us to an office and asked us to sit down . She was very approachable and smiled when I put my large folder on her desk. ( I had brought copies of everything we had previously sent plus more photos and evidence. ) She started going over all the forms we had sent in confirming all the details and ticking off everything as she was going along. She asked both of us questions in relation to all our details but as everything was completed correctly it was all very simple. She then looked through all the photos, bills and other additional evidence we had brought with us.She was interested in talking about the places we had visited together and the family photos we brought. She asked if she could copy everything but appeared pleased when I said that I had all the copies prepared for her to keep. She said it was great that we were so organized as it saved her a lot of time. She asked us about our wedding in Sweden and our Blessing in England and looked through all the photos again. As I had a new passport in 2012 I had also brought my old expired passport as it had all the travel stamps in it. She stood up and said ' That should be everything, I just need to take some more copies of your passports'.She told us that they would look at our case in the afternoon and we should get the official reply in the next week unless they needed some more evidence and the Green card should arrive within a few weeks . She took us to the waiting-room and asked us to wait there. There were many other people waiting there by now . I looked at the time and realized we had been in the office for 45mins already. She came back after a few minutes handing us our passports, smiling and saying ,thats all. We said Goodbye and walked out of the USCIS building. We got home just before 13:00, had lunch, and I sat down in the sofa and fell asleep for 2 hours.
. Online resident status showed up the day after on the website. The letter 'Welcome to the United States of America' arrived on the 22 jan. and the Green Card was delivered By our Mail -lady on the 25th jan 2013... 10 years residency Yay!!!! -
My Green Card arrived today
Valid for 10 years ... Now I can at last breathe again and we can get on with our life . Life is Good !!! I wish that all of you waiting doesn't have to wait too long. Thank you for all your help and support .
I will upgrade my timeline tomorrow and also post info from our interview which was really great

You'll get an extra loads of happiness when it arrives in the mail....you'll be jumping up and down and big a huge kiss to your green card!
When I've got approved it hasn't really sunk in yet at that time as I was on F1 visa, and although I got approved on the spot at the interview, the same day I still had to run to classes, study at home, go back to classes the next day and so on. So I was happy, but I did not feel anything changed in my situation. Then my card arrived, I've got super duper happy as that's when it really hit me what just happened.
The next day I walked to our office and spoke to the residence deputy and he changed my status and told me all about it, and that's when I felt the actually "approval of my interview". I walked out and in my head I was like "WOW! I'm not on a visa anymore!!!"
And although I am continuing my school and all that still today, but knowing I could always take a break and that I'm not heavily depend on the school to be able to be here is HUUUUGE!
And now I'm looking at the calendar and all surprised that whatta heck, I just got my GC but next year I have to file for ROC. LOL That's a bit odd this way, since I've got my GC at the very end of last year, so within a couple weeks it became 2013 and that places me for "next year" of ROC (2014). Which seems soooooooooooooooooooo close comparing that one and a half month ago I did not have my GC yet.
It's weird...but in a real good way!
So, again, I can't wait to hear you've got your GC in the mail and that you'll be super duper happy again!
Congratulations again!
I'm so happy for you too . It must be a great feeling when the GC arrives .. My 'Mail-lady' knows Im waiting so she said she would come to me first if something official turns up
Party next weekend I think

yay congrats!!!!!

Yes you're approved. Congratulations!
Thank you
I can dance all night long ! -
we knew going into this journey that we could be scrutinized heavily... after all it is ISlamabad embassy and pakistan is well known for fraudulent cases. But we decided the only way to go about it is the right way and walk directly thru the fire and prayerfully come out on the other side after a year or so. Here we are filed in Nov 2010 and interview june 2011 and still in AP 19 months later.
We see daily people getting their visas in our community and i certainly am thankful that their waiting is over. However, my husband and I have come across a couple of people who obviously did it for just the green card. They don't have a good relationship, his family doesnt like his USC wife and it's so frustrating when you can tell they didn't do it the right way or for the right reasons and yet 2 weeks after his interview he received the visa. There are a few more stories just like this where it's obvious the man did it for just the green card and it's so painful when your hurting so badly for someone and going thru so much without them by your side. But I have to remind myself its because of those individuals that we are scrutinized heavily and doing purgatory for those who didn't have to.
Our daughter has a brain tumor which took up over a third of her head and growing on her optic nerve and it's inoperable at this moment. Even those medical reports couldn't relieve us from this black abyss of AP.
We will wait patiently, let the embassy do their work and finish our case when God feels it's time and we will REJOICE that we are together and walked thru the fires holding hands staying faithful this process will eventually bring us together and that WE DID IT THE RIGHT WAY!
I admire your strength and understand that life must be hard for you at this time. I hope they find a way to shrink your daughters tumor. I also wish they will speed up your application and hope you will be over here soon to get some peace in your life . God Bless

Hello everyone,
I applied for adjustment of status and received NOAs a couple of weeks ago, and I have my biometrics appointment set for 2/1/13/. Today I received a letter with Request for initial evidence.
I am asked to submit one of the following:
* Evidence of your lawful admission to US. Such evidence includes, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, I-94, Form I-512 or copy of non immigrant visa from passport.
I do not have those because I came on Visa Waiver program (ESTA). So the "But not limited to" means that I could just copy the stamp they put in my passport when I arrived?
OR
* If you entered the US without inspection (which I did not!!!!), you must submit evidence of your eligibility for adjustment of status under section 245(i) of the INA.
This is so confusing and upsetting, I feel like I am none of the 2, unless a copy of my visa waiver stamp is enough! This paper also mentions a section 245(i)$1000 surcharge fee.
Please, help me, this is so upsetting. Thank you very, very much!
All you have to do is make a copy of the page with the stamp in your passport and go online to the ESTA site , log in and print of the page with your ESTA Approval ( With the ESTA number) I did the same and it was accepted .
My evidence was approved at this weeks interview. Have a good relaxing weekend. Good Luck

THIS is a HUGE help!!!! Thank you so much. I've been staring at the 2555EZ form and 1040 form wondering how to approach this and your explanation really makes sense. i can get a "certificate of employment" from my current company for 2012, but won't be able to get any evidence from my previous employers (all are out of business) for the previous years.
I'm glad that I can be of help . If you estimate the income for the other years and clip each year to the relevant forms . Write what ,where , when and keep that formula for each year. Good luck.
-
Got the SAME notice when I checked online on the 15th...i was wondering what ADIT meant an googled (it means fingerprints or photo that USCIS might need)....I think that is a standard message...because hubby got his welcome letter today and the blue dot changed to card production today too..........
So you are APPROVED!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Excellent!!! Thank you so very much
and congrats to you too

I came to US on a Visitors VISA (ESTA)and we decided after a few weeks that I would stay and adjust status to permanent resident due to Financial and Practical Reasons. We own a house here and my husband (USC)has a good paying job. I got my EAD and SSN in December. I have been working as a volunteer at our local Hospital and other local volunteer venues for the last month and will hopefully start to work there within the next few weeks.
We had our interview this week on tuesday. We got there 1 hour early and was called in after 10 minutes wait. Everything went well and we were told I would get mail/Green Card from them in 1 to 2 weeks.
I looked online today and my status had changed to the following.
Does anyone know what it means?
Your Current Case Status for Form I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

It's not a recent color photo.
It's (2) passport style photos.
Yes you are right . This was just an example . This will be clarified when the instructions are read and the forms are being completed . Information change constantly on a lot of the forms.. Thats why I wrote to phone them for clarifications and advice. Thanks for pointing it out

File for the last 3 years complete 2555EZ first. The final sum you get on this you enter on form 1040 under the income section #7 . You then go to #21 (other income.List type and amount. (Write 'Form 2555EZ' here, then you write you write the yearly income again in brackets ( 10.000) line below that Total comes to -0- , put -0- on line 37 aswell. Then if you dont have anything to declare or claim you do the same (-0-)on 38.41.42.46.54.60.71.75. Sign and date at the bottom.
At the beginning of the form you enter your details. If you are not filing joint you don't have to enter your wifes name here and for her SSN just put N/A.( As I assume she hasn't got this). As we were married but I was filing my own taxes in UK we ticked 'Married filing seperately' under filing status.
I got help with all this from an official Tax expert plus confirmed with the IRS legal dept.
My husband did the same for three years back tax returns, took 2 extra copies of each one ( 9 copies in total) For each year add any proof you got of income. If your previous employer can write three seperate statements of income to go with each Tax return. You need to have some kind of record even if its estimated. you need 3 copies for each year to clip to the taxreturns.
You then take this to your local IRS office where you get all 9 copies date stamped . They will file 1 copy for each year. ( IRS Done)
Submit stamped copies 1 for each year together with your I-864. Dont forget evidence of your current earnings.
The last set of copies you keep for yourself as evidence that you filed your taxes.
This Format is only applicable if you qualify for FOREIGN EARNED INCOME Exclusion Form 2555EZ and did not have any claims, taxes or credits
You can phone the IRS legal dept or get advice from an official Tax Adviser if you aren't sure about something. Good Luck

My husband and I married in his country and received our marriage certificate which only states my maiden name as there was no place on the form to write the bride's new married name. Later I came back to the US and changed my name using this marriage certificate at the Social Security Administration and on my driver's license and bank accounts. I sent a letter to NVC as they told me to do saying that I changed my last name to my married name and that my address is now in the US. Today I received an email from NVC saying they received the documents that I submitted. I sent proof of my old and new social security card and driver's license. Well, they didn't seem to have read my letter well because I called NVC and found out that my husband's address in Pakistan had been deleted and that they wrote my US address for him instead. My last name was also not updated. The person on the phone told me that social security cards are not evidence of name change and that they only accept a marriage certificate with both the maiden and married name written or a passport. Now I'm really confused how anyone with a foreign marriage certificate that does not follow this format is supposed to update their name change with NVC. I really am stressing out about this and I'm at a lost as to what to do. How do you change your name on your passport if it does not say both maiden and married name on the marriage certificate? Has anyone who married abroad had this problem? We already mailed in our choice of agent form using my married name, since I thought that was legally changed, now what are we supposed to do? Am I supposed to keep using my maiden name when so many of my legal documents are showing my married name? I wanted to send more evidences of our bonafide relationship but those all contain my married name now (joint bank account, checks, phone records, etc.) Please someone help with this

You need to change your name on you passport aswell. Write down exactly in which order everything happened and on what date . (in format 1. 2. 3. ) I was married previously so my name had changed twice . Luckily I had also worked in Hospitals in England where you had to undertake a Criminal records bureu background check which I got a print out from . This showed all name changes. They were very pleased at my interview when I gave them a copy of this as it gave them a lot of the information they needed. My husband is the USC. My name was changed automatically in my native country Sweden where we got married . But in your case, first address your Passport: you will need to change your surname with the U.S. Department of State by mail or in person. I recommend an expedited passport . Contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 with questions. Mail these documents:
* Your current passport
* Certified copy of marriage certificate showing your name change (Phone number above in regards for clarification)
* Form DS-554 (mailing address is on the form)
* A recent, color photo
Your passport is your ultimate proof of identity so it should always be addressed first , especially if your marriage was in another country. Good Luck

Date Stamped copies of 3 X tax-returns going back 3 years for at your local IRS office are sufficient proof of filing your taxes. Make 3 copies and have them all stamped. 1 for your own records/1 for IRS to send off/1 for filing with your I-864.
Good luck.

Another question - does anyone think the below is mission impossible? vvvvv
Deadline: Feb 9 2013, husband's status expires
TO DO:
- Receive W-2 forms from employers in past year (not sure when they will arrive..)
- Back-file taxes for past 3 years (two of which were overseas) - whether I E-file or use snail mail, no idea how long it will take...
- get a receipt or tax transcript proving I have indeed filed?
Basically as of right now, I cannot provide the required proof for our I-864. I have not filed taxes for the past 3 years and I don't have a just reason as to why not. I don't have my W-2's on file so I have to wait for copies to arrives to be able to back-file in the first place. AND then I don't know how long it will take to process my returns so I can include a copy of my return for the past year, as required by USCIS on the I-864.
One month is all we have - impossible.. right?
It can all be done . Its middle of the night now so Ill message you when I wake up

I would Phone the number on your receipt and ask for advice. I would also file your taxes before you go so you can show your current circumstances when you arrive at the interview. They might ask why you didn't notify them of your changed circumstances earlier . Then you can also refer to any advice that you have been given when you made your phone-call. Have you got any legal representation? . Bring as much evidence as you can as they added all the extra evidence I gave them at the interview.
