  1. CONGRATS!!! That's a nice surprise!

My time line is similar too, That gives us hope.

Wow congrats! Our timeline is similar to yours, so hopefully we will get ours soon too.

Wow!!! Congratulations! I must say I am jealous haha We have an NOA date of Sept 4 and got the NPIW on Dec 11, 2014 so I hope we get the GC soon.

Thanks all! Can't wait to have card in hand though, that's still another step that USCIS can screw up haha.

Hopefully USCIS will pick up the pace( rday). As excited as we are, I really wish they would take care of these earlier petitions first.

  2. I feel like i haven't posted in ages, but I just recieved the "Wecome to the USA" greencard approved letter today... shocked but obv very happy/relieved.

    AOS Timeline

    Filed: Sept 5, 2014

    NOA1: Sept 10, 2014

    Biometrics: Oct 1, 2014

    EAD/AP: Nov 18, 2014

    NPIW: Dec 30, 2014

Welcome to USA letter: June 15, 2015 (dated June 10th)

Edit: no emails/texts, no update on USCIS

  3. At this current time you are not a Permanent Resident of the US so DO NOT check that. You need to check An alien authorized to work until (and put down the expiration date of your EAD).

In M-274, the employers handbook in regards to the I-9, page 12 basically explains future expiration date on documents and says should not be consider in determining whether the individual is qualified for a particular position.

Also, on page 12, it says the employer will need to re-verify authorization to work on the date the employment authorization expires. In other words you will need to provide HR on the date your current employment authorization document expires, a new EAD or proof of permanent resident status (if you have it at that time).

Thank you!! That clarifies everything. :)

  4. This may be a silly question, but while we wait for our greencards after being chosen to be waived for interview (sigh), what is our current status? I applied for AOS last September, recieved NPIW December 30, and am now about to start work in a few weeks. One form asks me about my current status (Form I-9: Employment Eligibility Verfication) and I am not sure if I am a lawful permanent resident (or if that requires a greencard in hand) or just an alien authorized to work. Thanks!

  5. Hi!

Just about to start work again and am filling out all of the required paperwork, which includes the USCIS Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification).

I applied for my AOS in September of last year and unfortunatly was waived for an interview, meaning I prob won't see any updates on my greencard until next fall at the rate things are going with that.

So for my status am I "a lawful permanent resident" or "an alien authorized to work until ______". I am worried that if I put alien authorized to work and the expiration on my EAD it will look bad (like I can only work until a certain date), even though I will just reapply for EAD when the time comes around.

    Thanks,

    Melissa

  6. Got my first EI deposit today after months of fruitless callbacks lol :) - thank you everyone for the help, I couldn't have done it without this thread.

Here is a rough timeline of my EI adventures:

July 23rd - letter of resignation given to place of employment

July 28th - submitted EI claim on website (in Canada)

August 14th - POE Chicago IL with K1 Visa

    August 23rd - married

    September 10th - NOA1 for AOS/EAD/AP

    October 1st - biometrics

Mid October - received questionnaire in mail: faxed in completed questionnaire, copy of passport biographical page and copy of K1 visa

    November 18th - EAD/AP approved

November 20th - EAD card received and faxed to Service Canada

December 18th - first deposit! (because of two week waiting period)

  7. i am moving to another state next week. my EAD is about done maybe this week or next week. but we really need to move to ohio.

any advise you can give me? if i change address are they going to transfer my paperwork to ohio from nevada? or it will not matter as national benefits center process all EAD in all states?

also if ever i change my address should i do it on uscis website or i have to call uscis?

I changed my address back in September, and my EAD and everything else is still being sent to our old place (husband's parents, so not a huge deal). I would recommend setting up a forwarding mail service with USPS to be safe.

  8. Yeah one of my cases doesn't even exist anymore according to the website (AOS) - I called this afternoon and they said to give it a few days as there were a few hiccups with the transition. I'll try again later in the week if my petition continues to be nonexistent.

  9. 1. My finance started his job a month ago now, he will make more than enough to satisfy the government. My question is, without previous tax returns, or anything, or even the fact that by the time my interview comes up, his one tax return will only show a few months of work... will this matter? Or are the concerned with pay stubs, etc that show constant employment with a wage that is above the poverty amount?

Shouldn't matter as long as he is currently making more than poverty level. My fiance (now husband) was in the same situation- I brought a letter from his employer, 6 months of pay stubs and print outs of his bank statements to show savings. The guy at the interview (in Vancouver) didn't even ask for any tax information, which was good because I only had a tax transcript showing that he made pretty much nothing the previous year.

    2. There is an age difference between us. I am the female fiance, and he's the younger of us. By a little over 10 years. I'm not sure what the government thinks of this, or would it be an issue? We have plenty of proof of relationship and all that. Tons of pictures, family pictures, we visit every 6-8 weeks, we Skype all the time, including keeping it going while we sleep. I mean, that's not an issue. So do you think they'll frown upon the age difference? I know with men marrying younger women, that's generally fine. But women? It's a whole double standard thing at times...

Not really an issue in Canada.

    3. Do you think I am going to have any issues crossing the border for the next 8 months or so? I have 2 trips to fly 3,000 miles away just by the end of this year alone. Any chance they are going to deny me at the border? Or is there a better chance of that happening later on in the process?

You probably won't, but its always a possibility (like any border crossing). I never encountered any issues and I went to the US many times while our K1 was being processed.

    4. How did everyone adjust to the move? I mean, it's a big deal. Moving to another country, where you don't know as many people generally, needing to look for a new job, and all that... It's big. It's overwhelming. Was it smooth, did you get homesick? Did you find it easy to adjust? I'm looking forward to moving, but I've lived here my whole life, and now I'm looking at the big picture of moving. It's frightening!

Things feel pretty much the same for me to be honest - just different scenery. I don't really get homesick though- everyone adjusts differently so tough question. :P

    5. I recently read you could collect EI after you get your work authorization in the US. Is this still something you can do? I had NO idea.

Yes, just make sure you apply within four weeks after leaving your job.

  10. I used three in total - one at the medical and two at the interview.

I just checked the email and attachment that I received from Dr.Cheema (in July) and it says:

    3. PHOTOS
    Adults (15 and older) - 1 passport photo. 2 x 2 size, (50mm x 50mm) American standard size. No signatures required.

So I am not sure if something changed in the last few months, but four pictures for the medical seems excessive. Could always send an email to the medical office to double check how many photos are actually needed.

  11. Just a quick update.

I went to the medical exam this morning at Dr. Cheema's office. Just letting everyone know, everything went really well and Dr. Cheema was super nice and helpful, the whole process only took about 3 hours. I was obviously worried for nothing, lol. Now on to the interview!

    Thanks again everyone!

Great to hear! Good luck with the interview and let me know how it goes :)

  12. Can someone clarify for me what "original" means? I'm putting together the I-129f packet and I need to know if I should have the actual signed copies by my fiance of the G-325 form and the Fiance letter of intent or can I use a scanned version? It's a little unclear to me or should I have assumed that I need to have the originals mailed to me from Jamaica? Please don't laugh at me but I'm so nervous about making sure this packet is perfect that I may be missing the obvious.

    Thanks. :goofy:

    Original signatures - not scanned.

  13. Just copying and pasting the review from my timeline here for you. Honestly, I was WAY more nervous for the medical than the interview. Good luck and let me know how things go! :)

    Medical - July 8th, 2014

My appointment was at 10:00, but I got there around 9:40. The lady at the front desk took all my paperwork right when I got in and Dr.Cheema saw me right away.

One of the assistants took my height and weight and then I waited in a room for the doctor. The examination felt super rushed- Dr.Cheema didn’t really ask me many questions … do I smoke, do drugs, any DUIs, random chit chat about work and moving. Did a little eye exam, took my blood pressure, examined eyes/ears/neck, listened to my heart (told me to relax and no need to be nervous because apparently my heart was beating so fast! hah), felt my abdomen and that was it. I was actually in and out before the appointment was even scheduled to start.

It was a gorgeous morning, so I walked to the building where I had to get the chest x-ray and blood work done, which took about half an hour. Both rooms were packed, so this part took a little longer, probably close to two hours. I was a little nervous to give blood because I had never had to do it before, but it was quick and painless.

    Interview – July 10th, 2014

Most of the “interview process” was standing in lines and waiting. My appointment was at 10:00, but I got there early *just in case*, which I soon regretted because it was chilly and I had to wait outside. There is NO benefit to showing up early, and the minutes will feel like hours. Finally around 9:45 I was allowed to line up to go through the initial screening where they check your bags and then usher you into another line to enter the building. Only 5 people get to enter the building at a time, so the second line was super slow moving. Once inside, the next stop was going through more security screening like what you do at an airport. Then back to waiting – the next line was the elevator line (I had to go to floor 20).

Once on the 20th floor, I went to a window and gave a man all my documents (police check, 1-134, birth certificate, passport, etc.). He told me to sit and wait until I was called by name to another window where the actual interview would take place. When my name was called, I had to give my fingerprints, oath, and then answered some basic questions – what do I do, what does he do, how did we meet, how often do we see each other, have I met his parents(yes), has he met mine (no) … and then after about 5 minutes the guy interviewing me told me my visa was approved. Hurray! I then had to go back to the original window to receive some additional information about the visa.

The entire process took just over an hour, but it felt like I was there for MUCH longer. I was surprised when I looked at my watch while walking out and it was only 11:15.

  14. Not sure if this eases your worries or not, but Dr.Cheema and his staff are fantastic. If the topic of mental health does come up, just answer truthfully. Anxiety alone will not result in inadmissibility - unless there is associated/current harm to self or others. If it is being successfully treated, as shown by your doctor's note, it should not be an issue at all. Just relax, breathe and act confident (although I know it is incredibly stressful!!!). I was really nervous because I have had some mental health issues in the past, but Dr.Cheema did not even bat an eye at it. In fact, I was in and out of the doctors office before my appointment was even scheduled to begin.
