  1. Top of the evening to all of you! I would like to give all of you a review of my wife’s AOS interview held on 09/05/2007. The below is the chronological list of events of the morning:

    1. The interview was scheduled for 8:50 AM in downtown LA so we had to leave the house around 5:30 AM (Live about 60 miles north). We thought it would take a long time on the 101 since it was a week day but, we reached there within 1 Hour. We found parking opposite the building in the public structure and were in the long line forming outside by 6:45 AM.

    2. The line started moving pretty quick and we were in the building within 10 minutes.

    3. We found our room number (on the 8th floor) and met a nice security guard outside. He advised that we are too early and should go back down but, also said that if we don’t talk to anyone and don’t come back and bother him then we can get sit in the room.

    4. The room looks more like a big corporate training facility with around 100 seats for all kinds of people (We saw around 50 to 70) waiting to be interviewed. Surprisingly for us, pretty much everyone we saw brought a lawyer along with them. It got so bad at one point that it seemed that there were more lawyers than people in the room. LOL

    5. We sat and just chatted along for about a couple of hours hoping that our turn would come sooner than the interview time (Not sure why we were hoping for that!). But, it was exactly 8:55 when her name was called.

Here is the list of documents we took to the interview and I will tell you later what they took from us:

    • I-864 Affidavit of Support.

    • Bank letter stating our names on our checking and savings account.

    • Last three year’s tax returns.

    • A complete Medical Examination and Vaccination Supplement (Redone because it had been one year since she had got it done in India).

    • Proof of various kinds of Insurance (Health, Life, Vision, Dental) that shows both our names on it.

    • Both our passports, birth certificates, marriage certificate, driver’s licenses.

    • Around 50 photographs.

    • My Naturalization Certificate.

    6. The nice and tall 50 something Year Old Philipino man took us into his office in the back of a line of several of offices.

    7. We went in, he told us where to sit (Who in which seat) and then asked us how are day was going? And, asked us for both our passports and my CA driver’s License.

    8. For some reason, he started talking to me about Stock investments coz’ he came across some investment documents in his file on us. That is when he told me that he is an Accountant. Since I am a Financial Analyst, we hit it off immediately.

    9. He was very friendly and we kept on having a conversation on where I worked and how did I like my work, my investment strategies etc….just general chit chat.

    10. He asked my wife the following questions:

    • Are you part of any organization?

    • Have you been ever arrested, accused of a crime or been to court?

    • Are you receiving any federal assistance?

    • Where does she work and what does she plan to do?

    • Any previous marriages or children thereof?

    11. While we were chatting he asked me for the following evidence:

    • 2006 Tax Return.

    • Insurance paperwork and Bank letter to prove that we live together.

    • A copy of our Marriage Certificate along with the original one that he returned.

    • Made a copy of her passport and my Driver’s License.

    • He DID NOT ask her any questions about me, he didn’t ask me any questions on her.

    • NEVER asked for any photographs (Some people had up to 10 big albums with them in the waiting hall and I was telling my wife that if it is

photos that get you green cards than we have failed already since we only had 50 pics with us in a Walmart envelope…..LOL. We are not big

picture printout people. All our pics are on multiple home computers for backup purposes).

    • He NEVER even asked us for the $500 Medical evidence. LOL!

    12. He kept on writing stuff on various forms and papers while we were chatting (topics covering food, health, financial investments, tax, death

    (yes, death) etc.

    13. He took out a piece of paper (Looked like a canned letter), signed it, stamped it and gave it to us.

    14. The letter stated “Congratulations new Permanent Resident……………………

    15. He talked to us about the Conditional Period and told us that she should receive her GC within 30 days otherwise, we can come back!

    16. We were out of there by 9:45 and on our way home!!!!!!

I hope this quick review helps you guys a little bit. Not sure if you will have a similar experience but, in the overall spectrum of experiences……this is one you can actually look forward to

  2. Thank you for your wishes. Good luck to you too! Hopefully, every thing will go smoothly.

I am bringing everything with me to the interview, even though it says..unless submitted. It is redundant but for whatever reason, if my documents gets misplaced by USCIS, i will have an extra for them at interview. I wish you the best of luck at your interview! Ours is next week and I am nervous!
    Greetings to all,

My wife and I got the notice to appear for an interview (scheduled on September 5th, 2007). They have required us to bring a lot of documents with us....here are the questions:

1: "A completed medial examination (Form - I693) and vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope (unless already submitted)" - She already submitted the information when she went for her K1 interview in India. She had to do a complete medical checkup and vaccinations. When we submitted the AOS application, we sent in a copy of her vaccination forms in India and didn't receive any RFE. So, do we have to get the medical checkup again and vaccination supplement again? Or, can we take a copy of her medical checkup done in India for K1?

2: "A completed affidavit of support with all required evidence." - I have already submitted this with the AOS application. What do I take to the interview?

3: "Petitioner's Birth Certificate including the certified translation" - Have already sent it for both K1 application and AOS application. Do I need to get another certification done or can I just take copies?

    Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance!

Just bring it again. Of if you completely cannot accept supplying information that was already submitted, then don't bring it.

I don't understand these questions. What is your goal in asking VJ members to answer these questions? Are you hoping someone will say don't worry about this notice; you needn't bring anything? Is that what you want to hear? What if you arrived at your interview and the IO asked you for these documents? What will be your answer? "Oh, someone on VJ said I didn't need to bring them, so I didn't bring them." Do you think that's going to satisfy your IO?

Advice: BRING EXACTLY what they ask for and more--even if you've already submitted it. The exception is #1 where the instructions specifically states "unless already submitted" so you needn't bring that again, as you've already submitted it. Otherwise, bring everything and more.

It's better to bring everything and anything you think they might ask for. What's the harm in bringing something and they don't ask to see it? NO HARM whatsoever! But if they ask for something you didn't bring, then it may turn into a RFE and it's more wasted time on your part. Bring the kitchen sink!

Hey, Sir...whatever, first of all you need to calm down.....YOu are not the freakin administrator of this site. You have a problem with my questions, go report me to the administrator. This site is for people like you and me who are going through the same pains but, if you don't like these questions....I suggest you do the following:

1: Don't answer the questions which were not directed to you (If you feel offended).

2: Keep your freakin tone down. I don't work for you or, owe you anything.

3: Lastly, Understand the fact that you are not the only one that can get ugly on this site. I have a simple equation in life - "Shell out what is given to you". So, you wanna get tough? Well, bring it on!

To all other members who were a more polite,

Thank you all for your answers. The reason why I asked these questions was because I wanted to get advice from people who have been through this before.

    Thanks again!

  5. hello all,

for those who married in California, how long after the marriage did it take the Registrar/County Clerk to send your certified copies of your marriage certificate?

oh, while I've got you here (and this one is not California-specific), how close to the expiration of your spouse's K-1 Visa did you send your AOS paperwork to the USCIS?

    much appreciated.

We got married in CA, Ventura County and we had to go pick the certificate up from the Registrar. You have to request a copy to be mailed to you and pay extra for it (I think). They don't send it to you on their own.

    Thanks,

  6. My Fiance came to the US in January, we got married in February and I applied for her AOS in April. Today, she went to give her driver's test in the city of Ventura and they wouldn't let her take it. They told her that she cannot take any test until she gets her greencard (which we all know could take months) because her fiance visa has expired. I have applied for her EAD along with her AOS and need to know what are our options.

    Can someone please help?

    Thanks,

    vishrit

  7. Thank you so much for the response. I will pass on the message!

    Hello,

My cousin lives in Italy with her husband. They have been married since September, 2003 and they want to migrate back to the U.S. What will be the fastest way for her? Can she apply for I-130 (DCF) directly from the Rome Embassy? Or, does she have to take the K3 route?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks again!

    - Vishrit

    hi Vishrit,

Yes, if your cousin is a US citizen, she may file I-130 wtih the USCIS Field Office in Rome (navigate to their page thru uscis.gov for instructions).

The Immigrant Visa interview and application will be via Naples. There are several Italy stories posted here; the search feature at the bottom of the Forum Home Page works pretty well for a start. Also refer your couisin to the DCF Guide: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...om&page=dcf

The last total timeline I saw was inside of 3 months, IIRC.

  10. Finally, I am able to post what I wanted to post for over eight months; my Fiance received her visa via courier on August 16th, 2006.

Thank you all for the wonderful support since December 31st, 2005 when I mailed the I-129F package.

Good luck to you all. If you have any questions regarding our experience, please send me a pm. I will be back once she gets here for the AOS process.

    Thanks,

    - Vishrit

P.S. - Wedding date is set for January 14th, 2007 (Exactly two years after our engagement).

  11. What do we do how do we get a passport clearance he is from India someone please help us

I would appreciate it! We were told it will take lots of money and 8 days to two weeks but, I read it would be real quick one day please someone help us...

Sincery a fiancee in waiting Christina

My Fiance paid her local travel agent Rs. 2,000 ($50) and he did all the work and delivered the clearance to her house in three days (If I remember correctly). Tell your Fiance to contact his local travel agent that he trusts.

    Thanks,

    - Vishrit

  12. OK partner -- here are a few questions I would appreciate some clarification on. I can copy and past your responses on the forum if you don't mind.

    1. How long was the wait after the embassy got the case and sent out the interview date (or the first piece of communication)?

    2. What evidence of communication did they require (I only have phone logs and photographs)?

    3. Were you or your finace able to ever call the embassy and speak to anyone successfully? I want to call them and am curious. Did you try emailing?

    4. This deal about dropping off the originals at the VHS office, is this for real? Is it painful? Painless?

    5. Did your finace pick up her stamped passport at the VHS office or did did she get it in the mail? If she picked it up, then who did she call to coordinate it? My wife lives in a remote area and mailing her passport is not a good idea.

    Thanks man,

    KP

Here you go Buddy: All the answers you asked for!

    1: Five weeks.

2: We took Phone logs, Engagement Pics, signed letters stating that we are still in the relationship, copy of my passport showing the entry and exit stamp showing my last visit to India in February, 06, copy of boarding passes and the itenarary. That was it. Your stuff should be ok but the more, the better!!!

3: We never called anyone but, I emailed the Embassy and got prompt replies.

4: Yes, it is for real! Not just real, VERY IMPORTANT! Your wife has to deposit all the docs with the VFS office atleast two weeks before the interview date. It is very painless as long as you have all your ducks in a row! Failure to deposit the documents in time can result in a reschedule of the interview date.

5: My Fiance is still waiting for her passport. It is going to come by courier (Not mail). They always return the passport later through courier. Even if your wife lives in a remote area she should not have any problems because it is delivered via private courier and not through the shitty Indian postal system.

    Hope this helps you.

    Thanks,

    Vishrit

  13. Vishrit -- instead of a PM, can you please post your experience on the forum? I am sure that there are a lot of people wanting to know about it (like what was the general process, what kind of questions were asked, what evidence of relationship was asked for etc.etc.).

    Thanks in advance,

    KP

My Fiance just gave her interview on July 24th, 2006 for K1 so if you guys need any information about the process, please send me a personal message.

    Thanks,

    - vishrit

Sure Kpathak, the whole experience is pretty long but I would be very happy to answer any specific questions you might have.

    Thanks,

    - vishrit

  14. I know the passport verification document is required from all individuals.

what i meant to ask you was this .... because u stated that your fiancee was asked to submit a doctument saying that her passport is original or valid (whatever). Is that for all the individuals or not?

    Thanks

A Passport verification Document and a document saying that her passport is original is the same thing.

  15. Alright... Let me see if I can answer all the questions. Please forgive me if I miss your question.

    Not necessarily in order!

1: The passport verification document is required from all individuals.

2: I didn't go to India for the interview. I wish I could but just got a new job so couldn't go. Besides, the American Citizen or for that matter anyone else cannot enter the embassy. If you go there, you will be asked to wait outside.

3: She got two recepits..... gave one to the Embassy and kept one herself.

4: The wait between when the NVC forwarded the case to India and the interview was 1 month and 30 days!

Thank you all for the best wishes. Hope your process goes smoothly too!

    Take care,

    - vishrit
